What strain do commercial growers use?

Damn it. Yeah, no clones around my parts. I'm going to have to start stock piling good genetics because they always run out. Do you know of another fat yielding berry strain currently available in seed form?

i think id point ya towards some sweet tooth #3,...there are tons of strains i still havent tried so im just going from what i know,..im sure there is something better suited probably,...but i really sure there is ALOT worse as well....
swt3 will finish in 8 weeks, good yield(like skush), great taste and smoke qualities, not a hammer to the head high but very smoooth relaxing high...
i think the description from sol says it best--- "Whether this is an exceptional commercial strain or head stash is for you to decide."

in my area some strains popular with commercial growers are (in no particular order) chronic, AK, Big Bud, Powerplant, Great White Shark, Pot of Gold, Hash plant, Skunk#1, Northern Lights, K2, Sensi Star, White Widow, White Russian-some kiddies occasionally have a go at something more ambitious like SSH

Spice of Life is the breeder of ...

I still have seeds of the shishkaberry from way back, and this strain is a yeilder.

The best quick elite strain(s) you can find. If it is elite, it all works out the same... In fact, less yield, same return = less risk....

The question has to be distinguished between commercial and heavy yielder?

There are too many large yielding strains to list but for something to be commercial it also has to be in demand, finish quickly for higher turn over and able to handle less than optimal conditions. It helps if it gets people really stoned too. :sasmokin:

For years the top choice in BC was Hash Plant. It yielded incredible if grown properly, didnt stink up a large piece of real estate and had great market appeal. It could also be some pretty potent smoke considering the size of operations it was grown in.

Juicy Fruit was also a big one. The super light color green those buds dry at was a real draw. JF also yielded massive in a big plant with monster buds breaking their own branches. It was not as strong as HP but was another staple of the BC commercial grower over the last 6-7 years.

All that has changed. Purple is in big time down in California and every body is raging about Kush there. There is a major shift going on amongst the commercial growers. Clones for PK are in big demand. I'm hearing of guys not being able to sell 100's of lbs of Hash Plant. It's chaotic really.

I'd suggest looking towards something that is demand over something that simply grows a lot pf weight if commercial is the reasoning.

I helped trim a big crop of PK recently that put out slightly over 2lbs a bulb... but that is rare. Typically they get between 1.6 and 1.8.

From what I'm hearing you can get 25% less kush than HP and you still have a much higher pay day.

The strain depends on the growers setup and needs. for instance, an outdoor commercial grower that is growing acres of cannabis, probably doesn't care about strain specifics. First you have to define what you think of as commercial. I guess you could say that anything more than for personal use is commercial, but when I think of commercial, I think of fields and fields of cannabis, not one or two medium sized greenhouses, these are the bottom feeders of commercial growing, and although it is commercial, the 'big dogs' grow far more. That is all besides the point. when you are growing massive quantities, you probably aren't ordering seeds online by the pack, in fact, you probably are getting seeds from a 'local' source.

Most larger commercial growers probably don't really care what strain it is (atleast in mostly illegal areas), as long as it grows and makes them money. Mexican commercial growers grow plenty of different strains. thai, nl, bb, ww, hp, afghan, the list goes on and on. pretty much every strain there is, probably is being grown in mexico. with indoor grows, there is usually more of an investment in equipment, power, etc, so of course you would want to regulate what you grow and how you grow it so you can get the most for your money. I would say outdoor commercial growers are more lax on their choice of strains than indoor growers. outdoor growing requires near minimal care compared to indoor growing.

commercial outdoor growing can be as easy as taking the time to plant a few thousand or more seeds and just letting them do their thing, to constructing waterways, camouflaging, feeding, plowing, etc. A commercial outdoor grower would be better off financially if they just bought a couple of unpressed pounds and extracted the seeds (even pressed pounds have plenty of viable seeds) or went to another country to buy seeds from other commercial growers (cheaper in 3rd world countries by far). I bet you could go to mexico and get a buttload of good strain seeds for very cheap, plenty cheaper than most anywhere.

If you are selling for top dollar, you probably are very selective. if you are selling mass quantities of regular grass, you probably aren't as selective. In my experience, the larger the crops are, the lower the quality of the final product.

And about canada, I agree that they do keep the better grass and send the cheaper grass to the US. I guess some of them figure that since most grass in the US isn't all that great, they can get away with it. for the most part, most commercial grass that is imported to the US was higher quality when it was done budding. but lack of care at harvest time, quick drying, keif sieving, improper handling, improper packaging, compressing bricks, etc all contribute to the degradation of the quality. some even press them into bricks while they are fresh from the plant and wet, package, then immediately ship. And as for canada having the best cannabis, I don't buy that. There is plenty of places with good cannabis. I'm pretty sure that the US produces a much larger amount of cannabis than canada. infact, the best cannabis in the US is most likely grown in the US. if someone from canada came to the US and smoked some cannabis but thought it wasn't any good, chances are it came from canada. even mexican brick is better than canadian brick at times.

do you think these large scale drug dealers want it to be legal? no way. they wouldn't be able to compete, they have a monopoly right now, and its tax free. It is ironic, because buying from these people (and you most likely are no matter where you buy, the little fish get it from the big fish), pretty much gives them the money to lobby for their own agenda's (i.e. they sell it, but keep it illegal so they can keep the money in their pockets). if cannabis became legal, the tobacco companies would probably crush the black market cannabis importers. grow your own.

You should make some F2s of that Shiskaberry. you can't get it anymore.I would love to see it on Seedbay. I would be your first customer.

Jello, you are the only other person I have seen to mention Dynamite. Is yours the Indica strain that came from seed, or the sativa dominant clone-only, like mine?

I've had a few phenos from a few dif. strains that would have awesome commercial potential.

I didn't see anyone mention SPG (sweet pink grapefruit) ...but SWT#3 has that in there and that's hands down an awesome choice.

Blockhead is a good choice too, but be prepared to do some work finding that heavy yielder...may take a cpl packs if u can even get them still.

Around here if you get commercial weed it's been AK47 for quite sometime. Alot of big grow ops run by asians. The stuff is hydro and really consistant. Dense like rocks..but chopped at about 35 days and no flush. (gives me an instant headache, but looks realy nice)

the easiest route is def. to be lucky enuf to know a commercial grower that will give ya a cut.

otherwise start poppin' lots of beans, and makin' lots of clones until u find the one...could get very time consuming depending on what your looking for.

Where the real indoor commercial bulk comes from in Canada is the literally thousands upon thousands of growers who are growing 10/12 bulb operations in their house/shops. The police are spending their budget mostly on the bigger ops tied in with the clubs like Hells Angels and the many Asian/Indo gangs. Most of these modest ops go for a long time depending on factors like landlords and safety inspections. Of the 100's of growers on this scale that I know, there has been few convictions(and they continue to grow, some in the same location even).

As far as outdoor goes... well you will get some shitty weed and it wouldn't surprise me that the domestic outdoor weed out of Cali would be better. We are in a northern climate and rain can be right through the fall in some places. Don't get me wrong, there is some incredible outdoor here but just how do you compare the weather in Canada to the weather in the southern US in the fall? My area gets snow til may and late Sept there is snow usually. I lost 700 plants one year at higher altitude to a freak storm in the first week of Sept. Snow for 2 days followed by 2 nights of -10. They froze solid and died. I sat in my tent nearly in tears. Some hunters I know who have a cabin there say that in 30 years they never saw anything like it.

I help a friend trim who puts out around 30 lbs a month. He grows incredible herb and it all ends up south. I know several others who grow the same and it all goes south. I hope you guys get your hands on some down there. You will be very satisfied, believe me. You will think it's domestic no doubt but chances are you've been making that mistake often.

All my friends that travel south tell me that the common smoke down there is disappointing. I don't think that's our fault. :pointlaug

I forgot to add this....

Getting wet compressed weed is not the growers fault up here.

You cannot sell wet weed here by no means. You dry it to nothing over 20% if you want to sell it. The people pipe lining it south are the culprits here.

They demand it no wetter than 20% then they add another 10% moisture for what THEY claime to be preventing it breaking up when they vacume pack it. This is why it comes out as a wet brick(and spraying water on it will give it a bunky smell). Of course they pocket the 10% weight gain on sale.

We keep it damper for personal but theres no way you can sell 30 lbs of damp weed. First thing the buyer does is snap test it. If the small to med bud stems don't snap, they tell you to come back when it does. There is so much out there that you are crazy not to cave to these requirements.
