What parts of Amsterdam to avoid?

G'mornin' milehigh,

Your research on the Dutch American Friendship Treaty sounds about par with my past research.

I still had questions about specifics re. the health insurance the last time that I went digging into it, but my guess is that health ins. is something that (assuming that you can buy it in Holland) might well be considerably cheaper in a country with socialized medicine. Just a guess.

Good leg-work on the DAFT; by my reckoning, it's the least expensive legal method of immigration available, though not without serious implications.

Health Insurance in Holland went through big changes last year. Even the locals are confused to some degree. There are several plans available and they are mostly the same coverage with minor differences. The local chamber of commerce where you will register your business has the info on the different plans. Since I am in good health with no prescriptions, I will go for the lowest cost regardless of coverage just to get it done. It appears it will cost somewhere between 120 and 250 Euro per month. Can be paid annually.

See you all in Nederland...

Hey Dank, I don't mean to burst your bubble or any thing but immagrating to the EU isnt that easy.First you need to read the laws first. I'am marriaded to a German woman and believe me it isnt as easy as signing a lease. AND do not wait until the last minute to apply for an extension. The frown upon that. Another if you over stay your Tourist visa and are caught you will be banned from the EU for something like 10 years. The same as the US. To stay in the netherlands, you might need to draw up a resume and apply for an emplotment visa first. Just so you wont waste your money and 9 months rent while not being there. Or you could just get a flight back to america ever 90 days to see Mom. stay for 30 days and then return. or you could fly to a non-EU country and go back. Just make sure your stamp is renewed wvery 90 days or what ever visa time period you get. A place to get the best info for thei would be the Dutch Consulate in your state or the closet one. And you ask why I know these things? I lived with my wife in Germany. Or you could find a fat dutch girl and get married online. HaHa. I hope this will help you. Please do check this out really good before you dissapoint yourself.

How long did you live in germany with your wife?
It is extremly easy to live in Amsterdam for everybody. Just as easy like to move to the U.S. and meet a fat women there, ha ha....
I don´t think Amsterdam is disappointing at all, it´s a blast....
