In the early mid-1970s and mid-1970s, his band played the Grand River Raft Race in Grand Rapids, Michigan on the Grand River, where amongst the hippies in makeshift rafts floating the river, one might also look around them in the water and find unprocessed human feces, etc.

But it was an outdoor gathering of the tribes, so to speak..... bikers, hippies, leftover beatniks, and passersby, with live music, outrageous fun events, both scheduled or formal and not, and lots of police patrolling, though limited aggressive behavior by them, as they were clearly way outnumbered.

I want to say the cost of admission for the live outdoor music was about .50 cents, though I can't remember for sure. Maybe a buck or so?

Wayward youth....

The race was sponsored by WLAV FM 'Underground Rock' in Grand Rapids. Same station that played Dick Gregory's May 4, 1971, Kent State presentation every May 4th, for many years, as a commemorative and remembrance..

Water that if a person was paying attention, swimming wasn't all that attractive of an idea. Nonetheless, many of us went in....

I have went to many concerts in Detroit, never got to see a Segar show though. We used to go to Harpos for smaller venues but they booked great entertainment. I saw humble pie there,Mitch Ryder,Nazareth,Ian Hunter, Blackfoot,BTO and others I can't recall

I never saw him after he made it big, shortly after his time at the Raft Race.

But the Live Bullet Lp was a common feature when I was living near Lake Independence in Big Bay, Michigan, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, getting back from a winter hitchhiking adventure down to the Lower Peninsula, getting into the cabin, sitting down to shake off the Dexedrine buzz that often came with long trips by thumb, and smoking a doobie.

The race ran annually from 1969 until 1981.
