It's not an artist. It's NPR's monthly competition, for unsigned artists to go in and perform. Some big names are unsigned, and there are years of these things on youtube. The performance is done in the corner of the office, where their is limited space, so performances are stripped bare. An artist does a 15 minute slot, with a bit of informal chatter if they like.
The audio is top notch. If you are someone that can tell mp3 from cd in your sleep, then it's a great source of material.
