The Athabascan Indians, mostly an Interior Alaska river People, go way back, and coincidentally, on a language map, speak nearly the exact same language as the Navajo, adding some level of evidence to the Bering Land/Sea Bridge theories.

A mellow People overall, for whom rapid cultural changes haven't always been kind.

The Gwitch'in People to the north also engage in the fiddling festivities, and up north, years ago, while bootlegging alcohol into dry villages might get you turned in quickly in some places, there were numerous places where even the elders smoked the herb. And if you were connected locally, weren't there to rip people off with obscene pricing (which they routinely face in remote places) and were of a decent sort, they might turn a blind eye, even for non-Native folks. They often knew what destroyed and what brought more peace.

When they have potlatches, or fiddling gatherings, joy often abounds. They are often a very generous People overall. And they've been fucked around for years.

Marc Brown and the Blues Crew played for us several times during fund-raisers for legalization. At that time, and probably still, Alaska natives comprised about 42% of those incarcerated in the State, while representing about 17% or less of the State's population.

My former sheet rock guy played harmonica and occasional vocals with Marc's 'Crew'. Larry Cantil. I used to tell folks he was both a great rocker and a great rocker.

When the title cut gets played at live gigs in the villages, EVERYBODY gets up and boogies.

This album, and specifically the title cut (first up in the play list, and the last, which is an extended version) won Marc and his band a nomination at the Native American Music Awards (NAMMY).

Back then you could routinely find them playing at the Arctic Bar.

Marc's an incredible guitarist, with a unique voice.

Without further ado... whole album...

Note: Someone added a couple tunes to the play list that apparently aren't Marc. Go figger'... But most of this post is of Marc and Band.
