What is your IQ?

IQ is completely useless without persistence, determination, self-motivation, and a whole range of other qualities that are at least as important as rather dubious ranking of someone's intelligence.

Which would you rather employ (or be, for that matter): a lazy "genius" or a consistently earnest, hardworking person of below-average intelligence?

Some idiot savants can't speak, let alone read or write but can seemingly effortlessly perform tasks that we "normal" people would consider miracles.

A low IQ score is not necessarily a handicap...and a high IQ score is not necessarily an advantage.

well i have an IQ of about a pound......... lol jk it was 140 when i was 16 but years of getting hit in the face by linemen probably made me half retarded because now my iq is 110 if you have any kids that play football make sure they get the air in there helmet just right or they'll end up like me hahaha

seriously, ive had 5 concussions (that ive been to the hospital for).... combined with several years of mdma abuse and Iam quite sure my brain isn't functioning at anywhere near the capacity it used to.
I wish when I was younger someone had told me smashing my head on trees and fists.... and abusing x would have some lasting negative effects on my brain. idk mayb somebody did tell me that and I just forgot.. haha

intelligence is rated in our culture by what dumb facts you can spew outta your mouth and write on a piece of paper.thank you science.intelligence for me is rated on how much compassion an individual can have.thats all that matters in the world we live in.

I think I hit max capacity. Whenever I learn new stuff, it pushes old stuff out. I have to be careful, if I learn one more new thing I'll forget how to..... Aw shit!

i agree, Dan. I think the human mind is like a length of pipe. when you are born, it is empty. eventually it fills up, and every time you put something new in up front, something falls out the back while you aint watching...:)

You may not vote on any more threads today.

If i could, a lot of would have +1.

Very entertaining/educating.

I also get what you dick comparisons people are saying.
I can imagine how some people can feel small compared to others in regards to iq size, but i think like a lot of you that iq is just one part of the whole equation.

When I was a wee lad (6 or 7) I tested at 138. I remember arguing about the odds of a coin flip though because even though there are two sides, the "heads" side is slightly heavier. Apparently not what they wanted.

I'm sure my IQ has gone down since then. Once I got older I realized that I hate math and science and all that hoopla, and started to concern myself with questions that make a difference, such as those concerning ethics, phenomonology, existentialism, social & political construct, and the affects of the way things are today on both people and the world that we live in. Not that math and science don't matter; they have their places, but they don't seem to offer much to answer the question "how can I now, today, live better?"

I don't think IQ testers would place much emphasis on or concern in those sorts of questions.

My memory fails me, but I partially recall a saying that goes something to the effect of "Everyone is a genius in their own way, but if you judge a fish by his ability to climb a tree, you and him will live your entire lives believing that he is dumb."

www.free-iqtest.net just told me mine was 141. It was only 20 questions and I got them all right. I'm sure with a legit test it would be much higher.

I'm a delicate genius.

I did mine several times and by the 3rd try I had mine up to 198. :)

IQ is not something to make a big fuss over all it really is, is a measure of potential. You still have to pair that IQ with knowledge. A person can have a high IQ but if he/she were kept from gaining knowledge outside of what goes on in their immediate environment and still end up seeming unintelligent.

A person with a high IQ though is more likely to learn/pick up on things quicker then someone with a lower IQ. They are also more likely to figure out solutions to problems they encounter quicker, often in clever, ingenious ways. They are also more likely to pick up skills just by observation and mimicking of others. An example might be that you have two dishwashers one with a high IQ and one with a low IQ.

The low IQ Dishwasher after 2-3 months will likely just be figuring out a way to do his job efficiently. Whereas the high IQ Dishwasher had efficiency figured out before the end of the first week and now after watching the cooks do their job for 2-3 months he's competent enough to be promoted to a cook.

IQ tests are imperfect things, one aspect factored into these tests is the speed with which you answer the questions. I took 3 IQ tests as I was growing up thru my teen years, the first one was when I was 13. I didn't understand at that time about the speed aspect and focused more on making sure I was confident with each answer before selecting it. I don't remember the score now other then it was the lowest of the three, somewhere in the above average range. The next time, when I was 16, I understood about the speed factor and put more effort into answering quickly. I also noticed that I recognized many of the exact same questions. Suggesting that the test being given is a standardized test and regardless of who you are or if you've taken the test before, you get the same test every time it is given. The results of my 2nd test was higher then the first time but not yet enough to move me into the genius category. The third time was when I was 18, this time I found that I recognized even more of the questions which enabled me to answer even quicker then before. That 3rd time I ended up with a score of 164 which is in the genius category even slightly above Einstein. I certainly don't feel like I could come up with something like the theory of relativity though. What I do think is remarkable though is my ability to recall the same questions even after as much as 3 years. So do I feel like I'm a genius? Well it's all relative ,I know people with a lower IQ score that I feel are way smarter then me at least in certain areas of knowledge. I do however run into people all the time that I feel confident I am way smarter then they are. Then again even someone rated as just being "bright" at 115 likely has those same experiences.

Where I use to work the GM hired a guy and gave him to me to train and get ready to go to the field. After about 5 mins of talking to the guy he confidently proclaimed that he had an IQ of 162.

I was blown away. Not due to the sheer genius that I was confronted with, but by the paradox that this genius was speaking at a high school or maybe middle school level. I asked 162 why he was trying to get a field level oilfield job when surely the Mensa network would have afforded more opportunities in line with his intellectual prowess.

He gave me a bewildered look and then look at his shoes for the answer. After an awkward silence I took 162 down to the shop and gave him to one of my trainers. After a couple days I asked how he was doing. Apparently he had told everyone in the shop that he had a 162 IQ and that it was that high because he was in a car accident that caused frontal lobe damage in the brain. Not only did this damage increase his IQ, but it also made him lose his conscience (great a sociopath).

All very interesting. I fired him a couple days after for trying to selling Xanax and vicodin to my shop hands.

The moral of the story is that I don't put any value into someone telling me their IQ. Especially in the States where everyone gets a blue ribbon, everyone gets a first place trophy, everyone gets to be a genius, and every child is so super special that you never want to tell little Johnny he's the dumbest one in the class and has a lot to work on. No, no, no, tell him he has a high IQ, give him a ribbon and tell him how darn special he is going to be.

I prefer to use my 'super powers' to subvert the testing system altogether,
to be tested implies a tester and a test'ee, to be evaluated by a tester or evaluator

...who gives them the right ....fuckdat!!!!
