What is Skunk?

Hi Guys
I would just like to have a more clear definition on Skunk. In my country mostly every growers believe that skunk is any inbred strain that is very strong. They will call anything potent skunk. I tell them that it is a special line with special taste, smell and effect, but they insist, that anything potent is Skunk. A hybrid would always be skunk in their opinion, which i believe is pretty wrong. Can somebody write me some of this, so i can print out and show. Cheers

Skunk #1 is Afghani, Mexican gold and Colombian gold.
People like to call anything stinky, skunk.

Over here in the UK they call any strain Skunk since there isn't much choice of other strains.
Occasionally there is some Haze type hybrids available but they would still call it Skunk.
The people that sell weed on the streets are not educated in this subject so they call it how they have always called it... Skunk.

hmm, okay - i just thought Skunk was an ibl or something. Don't know much about this, just saw the strains with skunk, but maybe i am wrong, and the strain, Skunk #1 is really made after the term skunk came up making it right to call anything that stinks skunk??? could easily be so. I've missguided myself then. )

No, Skunk is an actual strain, similar to Northern Lights for example. It's sort of like when people sell weed as "dro," or "hydro" and they think that means that it's good...it might be grown hydroponically, but the fact that street dealers don't know shit about weed makes the word take on a different meaning...same with skunk.

i wonder that myself... you always hear these guys looking for the 'roadkill' skunk... who wants to smoke weed that smells like something foul?

anyway, i've smoked more than a dozen different Skunk hybrids and every single one has been sweet...

That dank ass old school ganja smell youre talking about? Thats mexi-brick-dirt weed. I remember smoking my old mans stash as a kid and it sucked then, like it sucks now.

I honestly think that the general populous believes it to be more potent the worse it stinks... To each his own I guess.

i just got some island sweet skunk...i am disapointed in the stone as everything in my garden put it to shame the flavor was awsome...comercial growers just dont care about the grass...skunk is in a lot of strains...but true skunk it seems nobody grows anymore...i personally wont grow anything but low odor strains

I would! I had roadkill skunk back in early 90's. It was super potent and stunk just like a skunk. However it was amazing herb, to this day in my top 5 of best strains ever. It may sound nasty but once you smoke it you see its owrth it. However the roadkill skunk was bred out and the sweeter skunk has become more available while the roadkill is pretty much gone. But if you ever had it you know it was owrth the stink

Don't dis the rks, man. The roadkill skunks didn't come from brick. I've only rarely had decently skunky brick bud and even then it wasn't close to a roadkill skunk. Mexican genetics are not skunky unless contaminated with indica. A lot the reason why rks's are interesting for me at least is nostalgia. The roadkill skunks actually tasted really nice when smoked. They tasted kind of piney and hashy. The real rks's that I used to get had a very energetic nonparanoid buzz that I am still very fond of and enjoyed more than most dutch sativa hybrids. The rks is as american as apple pie, coca cola, pitbulls, and baseball and it's a shame they've gone into obscurity.

Anyways IMO there's 4 definition of skunk.

1. Skunk 1 and its descendents though they're all rarely skunky.

2. Afghani and it's descendents though theyr more skunky than skunk 1 they can be piney, hashy and my favorite afghan taste is this kind of thick apricot/skunk/hash.

3. Anything descended from dutch genetics which also almost always have skunk 1 and/or afghani

4. Roadkill skunk

Before I started reading these forms I always thought "skunk" was an Indica. The stuff I bought in the USA (starting in the mid 80s) that was called skunk had a very strong skunk (the animal) smell but also black hashish smell. Really nice smell but the high was so so....

who ever thinks "roadkill" skunk is nasty knows nothing about good weed, you think the kush and diesel hype is big? if anyone got their hands on any real roadkill skunk thats what everyone would be talking about. smells strong as fuck, taste dank and super potent, all these peeps have smoked the best strains in the world and they still want the old school real skunk....not this poser skunk. u think skunk #1 is good, it can't touch real skunk....beasters is to diesel what skunk#1 is to real skunk.

I honestly think that Skunk #1 isn't the roadkill skunk evryone looks for. The Columbian pheno of Skunk #1 with slightly darker, thinner leaves than the sweet pheno is quite stinky, but to me, the really stinky Skunks are the Skunk x Afghan hybrids. UK Cheese is almost certainly Skunk x Afghan rather than a pheno of Skunk #1. I reckon a good Skunk x Afghan is far closer to the roadkill that Skunk #1.

exactly! I tell you right now. If i found a roadkill skunk plant i wuld trash every strain i have right now and grow only RKS.

Kush , diesel and all the others that are so popular right now cant touch a true RKS. In the early 90's we got alot of it from a dead show and man that shit was potent. We actually packaged alot of it and sold it as " Georgia Ave. skunk" but i remember that shit had me so high i ended up getting a room at a truck stop and staying there for days just smoking this shit. it was soo good all i wanted to do was smoke and eat. Shit was amazing. too much and you would be passedout.

Most who downtalk a RKS hae no ideas how good it is compared to the best strains of today and have never tried it. If someone had a RKS and entered in in the cup those judges would fall of their chairs and be on the floor . compared to the herb that thye have. RKS is a true gem that may be lost forever. I am sure some old hippie somwhere has a cut of it.

skunk plant always is sweat, small It all depends on how well you take care of your garden. there are bad batchs in every stran. People just like to give it a good name because it sells easyer to have a big named bud.
