A pitbull, preferably a female who is spayed. They are extremely loyal and kind loving dogs who are generally non-agressive towards humans but if you fuck with their loved ones they will kill, no joke & no bullshit, no barking or faking it they are cold killers and will fight to the death since it has been bred into them for hundreds of years to fight. Alot more actual bite than bark. They also just have this magical ability to know when someone is a bad guy or when something is'nt right with a situation. God forbid someone was attacking you or a loved one who is part of the "pack" then the gates of hell would open up when that pit grabs someone by the throat and shakes like a sailfish then chews on their neck while wagging their tail and licking them, looking at you like "did I do a good job?". Extremely good dogs with alot of love to give and totally safe around kids but not so good with other pets unless you raise them from a puppy.

Honestly, get a male lab as a young puppy. You'll get that connection with him where he will be the friendliest dog around, however if he feels you are scared, he will go to the death to protect you. Just be prepared to buy plenty of chew toys and fill lots of holes...............

and a yellow labrador retriever...

both excellent dogs with proper training.. extremely smart and loyal... alot of police departments use labrador retrievers on their police force as well... that right there says alot...

Be sure to give him tons of walks, on a leash, and tons of bonding time.

a good dog is a bluenose pit... Here's My rocky... he is a huge baby, he listen's to me his mommy very well and as soon as i scream he comes running, if i yell help he'll even go after my hubby... he's is my dog and will protect me no matter what, when i ahev him int eh car people don't even come close cause he goes nuts... and he's only 50lbs.... so he's not a monster. Plus short hair, i can put him int he batha nd wash him down if he gets smelly, lol.

that's soooo stupid!!!! some cities around here are like that too.. and it's stupid.... it has nothing to do with the breed of dog... it's the owner.... pitbulls are amazing and loving dogs. they are huge babies, and the reason they can be dangerous is because they are so loyal and loving to their owner... your dog will do what you ask to please you, and some people take advantage and use them to attack and fight... my pitts are part of the family. they will only ever be asked to fight or attack if my life is in danger... aka i'm being attacked. PUNISH THE DEED NOT THE BREED. any dog can bite a person.... not just a pitbull.

giant schnauzers are cool dogs. very intimidating looking, and a big bark on them. BUT, most are big wusses & only want to be petted. are MORE than willing to hang with you on your bed & chill for hours. they DO need activity time though, & are not the best dog for a small apartment. mine is a rescue dog, & weighs a hair over a hundred #s.

Please pick your breed carefully. You haven't really given any details,like are there children in the home? If so,how old are they? Do you want a breed that is active,or a couch potato? Would you consider a Rescue? There are Rescues for just about any breed of dog and you could make a real difference in some dogs life. Good Luck and I hope you find the right canine buddy ! Mary

That Akita is awesome!!! Have owned two in the past, beautiful dog, perfect for protection and companion. I'd say your choice should depend on your experience with dogs. No experience go with a good lab, boxer, or any med sized dog. Bit more exp? Can you be numero uno at all times? Go with a shepherd, rottie, mastiff, or any of the Molossers breeds that will probably naturally protect, look the part, but for the most part lay around and fart all day(aka perfect housepet). Bit more experience and there's no need to ask, but presas, bandogs, Am Bulldog, Boerbel the list is endless for any situation really.

Again Akitas are excellent pets. Bring em home, establish pack order early (the earlier the better), stick to it, love em to death and fugettaboutit. They'll take care of the rest. Tuggo
