shouldn't the soldiers be destroying the weed? I'm sure growing weed is illegal in Afghanistan and much of that weed is guarranteed to be smuggled into neighbouring countries such as Iran, and Russia which is right next to Afghanistan and then smuggled into Europe from Turkey / Russia same with the Opium.

Afghanistan is just a big shit hole so might as well grow some stuff on the empty land.

also are the American soldiers cultivating weed? or is it the locals? don't think the U.S should be sending soldiers to Afghanistan and spending billions of tax payer money so the soldiers can goof off and grow fields of weed and get high.

also imo guys with rocket, bombs / machine guns shouldn't be getting high for their own safety and the safety of others.

I know there is going to be a lot of people disagreeing with me but if I was in a war zone I wouldn't want the other soldiers being stoned out of their mind when we could be attacked at any moment.

that's what I said. You don't want to be high and get your crew killed. Don't care if the soldiers are getting high on their spare time but when you are in a war you're suppose to be on duty and ready to fight at all times.

wouldn't want the fire department and police department stoned out of their mined during an emergency.

I would think it would obviously be sold. If it is a crop by afhani locals then they will get paid very little for the crop enough to survive and buy a little food to eat.

most likely moved into Russia / Soviet countries, Tajikstant and into eastern europe. at least that's where the opium / heroine goes. I know Afghani heroine also goes through iran / Turkey into southern europe. Iran has one of the highest heroine addict population in the world because of Afghani heroine getting into the country and being really cheap. Same with Russia all the heroine gets into Russia and it's cheaper to buy heroine than food so a lot of young kids end up being junkies.

What I don't understand is why the U.S and Canadian forces don't destroy all the poppy field basicly covering all of Afghanistan. Almost all the heroine in Russia, europe, Asia comes from Afghani poppy growers.

kind of odd eh? The U.S has a war on drugs but they let the fields of opium poppies grow in Afghanistan and know exactly where those drugs will end up yet they don't do anything about it.

Well, you answered your own question really. The US and UK are not there to eradicate the poppy crops, they're there to protect them. UK military was recently upbraided by Karzai for broadcasting messages to farmers via local radio that the growing would not be interrupted: http://www.guardian.co.uk/afghanistan/story/0,,2067410,00.html

The myth that opium and heroin is not a major factor in all these 'wars' is still being propagated. There are plenty of interesting links around the topics of opium, Kosovo, KLA, bin Laden and the US, if you Google. I also heard recently of an elite team arrested with an inflatable full of raw opium....

not saying the people of afghanistan are bad people or that they are "uncivilized" but the country is basicly Africa, theres not one good thing in Afghanistan one of the poorest countries in the world. Iran's a much more advanced / nicer country.Afghanistan / Iraq are not real countries anymore to me, they are U.S property now and puppet countries. If the U.S did not take Afghanistan (create Bin laden to go to Afhanistan to fight the Soviets) then Russia would have taken Afghanistan.

I admire the fact that so far Iran has stood up against foreign invasion and takeover. The U.S got the Arabs/ Iraqis to fight Iran in the Iran/ Iraq war but they failed.

Afghanistan has always been ruled by foreing countries like you said. Ruled by the Iranians during the persian empire, UK, U.S, Soviet Union.
