I'm not sure I buy into the rule, but think its best to be vigilant and thoroughly inspect all meat or any wild animal for that matter before consumption. I mean, rabbit meat is good to harvest in April but not May?

sounds like an old wives tale squall . i mean , meat is meat after all unless it's a worm problem though i'd imagine that it would be all year round then . try one and report back ! haha:biggrin:

Baby sweet meat winter squash taking nicely to its new home. I'm growing 4 of them in the gardens, plus 2 extras I planted on the edge of the yard as I didn't want to throw them out. Not expecting much from those ones, but we'll see what happens.

Trying some seedless watermelon this year. The one on the left is the 'pollinator' since the seedless are won't fruit on their own.

I've got them under some agribon until the flowers develop.

Tomatoes and a few watermelon plants and -1- sunflower in one garden spot.

Planted carrots, beets, etc. but they were eaten by the birds.

the fence is for the deer.

The White Thing is a Turkey Bone.

the QUAIL chew & scratch around the edges of the garden patch.

This soil area is alternating layers of sand & gravel from the creek, related to some rather lame attempts at gold mining.

then I put leaves, grass, pea plants, all the stuff that gets ripped up when I clean up that area of the yard.

so, organic stuff, gravel, organic stuff, gravel, etc.

then I put 2x of those 3 cubic foot bales on top and spread it out, so there's about 4 inches of dirt. & planted corn seedlings etc.

thought they would enjoy the soil BUT they haven't "found the water" yet. they get hammered on hot days.

anyway, the Quail like the wet dirt. they un-earth potatoes.

the deer join in by chewing the tops off the sunflowers.
