I have used windows 7 and I know it's pretty straight forward.
However, I jumped on macintosh in 1989 and never had even a single virus. There is a few out there for the mac, but I don't get em.
I DO Get those POP UP WARNING MESSAGES that my "PC is infected!" ROFLMAO. No sir, I'm on a mac and how browsers work, unless I use some scripting that has to be approved that works "through" the browser, it would take TIME to even determine if my computer was infected... oh anyway...
I also occasionly get the loud blaring one like you and it's annoying. We must enjoy the same shitty porn sites LOL
Sometimes, depending on the browser, the box refuses to close. On mac I have a keyboard short cut like windows to kill it and it generally works.
When you PC gets too old, pick up a refurbished mac laptop from apple store. You're not too old to learn a few new tricks and it will seem more like windows 7 than the crap they are putting on the latest spin of that system. I hate 10, it's confusing for a 25 year web builder veteran... its confusing for the average consumer.

I get phone calls all the time, usually someone from India, telling me I have a virus on my computer and that they need remote access to fix it. I usually troll them, keep them on the phone as long as possible, and at the end, THEY are the ones who are mad!!! They are trying to steal money from ME and actually have the audacity to be angry at me for wasting their time! I enjoy these calls very much.
Floridian, what kind of virus protection do you have? I use Malwarebytes and Avira (both free). Avira is cool because on google search results, there will be a little green shield icon on the left letting you know its a safe website. If it's not, it will be red.

Havnt read the whole thread so my apologies if this has been suggested, I use ublock origin for firefox and chrome. This is the best adblocker I have found since ABP sold out, blocks 99% of invasive ads, like the one in this thread. But doesn't effect non invasive ads like the ones here on IC.
If you gave control of the computer then it will certainly now have key loggers, and browser hijacker, bitcoin miner and who knows what else. Ive been away from the security game for a couple of years but my professional advice would probably be to do a full hard drive reformat and a clean install of windows.
Maybe before that you could run malwarebytes scan restart the computer and run the scan again if the viruses remain you will certainly have to clean install. There is every possibility that there could be viruses installed underneath the operating system if administrative control was given to the person on the phone.

I had MalwareBytes and McAfee installed, up to date and running when it happened to me. Windows Defender was also running. I had to install SuperAntiSpyware to remove the nasty intrusion. Then I uninstalled McAfee and replaced it with BitDefender, though I've heard arguments both ways which AV software is better. I haven't had an issue since... at least none I'm aware of.
