since the origional thread in the infirmary was closed, I will ask this here..

Has anyone wo owns a Hydrohut recently had health problems?
More specificly, pain or pressure in their head?

I have one of these in my bedroom, at the foot of my bed where I veg motherplants. Early Dec. I got this headache, mild, but it got worse. It's still around and hurts 24/7. This is my concern, dudes. My head hurts and I wonder if this is a possible cause. I have had a HH in my bedroom for a little over 18 months.

PM me if your head hurts, and you sleep in a room with a hydrohut. :(

now i'm getting sketched out... my HH OG is in my room up at school (not in dorms btw) and i haven't spent more than a night with it in there. is it worth the risk to try using it or will it not be worth it? luckily, a buddy split the cost with me because it will be his tent after we are done and throw me back the cash i threw down to split it.

I think you can safely assume the headache is related to your tent unless you're experiencing unexplained problems with your plants. At the moment, there is no evidence to suggest that healthy grow tents are at all hazardous. :)

There is some serious over-reacting going on in this thread from everyone, and it is causing hysteria. Here's my take on the situation based on what I've read in the various threads on the subject.

Should you be concerned about your tent? sure.

Do some of the tents cause yellowing in plants due to some unknown toxicity? yes, some have been reported to, the manufacturer says it's up to 5%. It is assumed that one of the materials in the tent is toxic, some say the poles, some say vinyl off gassing.

Is there anything you can do about it? If you've got a HH and a problem with yellowing plants then you can do a few things. Take some photos. Try washing the inside of your tent and your poles in a bleach solution and see if the problem persists. You can get replacement poles if you write to HH.

If you own a grow tent should you automatically assume your tent is toxic/dangerous? No. Only if you're experiencing a sudden and unexplainable persistent problem with your plants should you take the steps mentioned above and/or discontinue use of your tent.

It would be good if all tent owners could check their tents (especially poles and corners for any signs of rust) for safeties sake. Remember, thousands of these things have been sold and used around the world for growing and yet only a handful of people have actually posted photos of sick plants that can be associated with the HHs. People are always quicker to complain than compliment. Most people have perfectly safe tents and have done many grows in them, all you can hope to do is educate fellow tent users of the warning signs and help raise awareness of this defect.

I have two grow tents (budbox) and they have no effect on my plants and so I assume are safe. This hasn't stopped me from wiping down all the poles and surfaces with a mild bleach solution though (remember to rinse it off well!)

So everyone lets take a few tokes and lets not overreact. :joint: :joint:

I just wanted to thank those of you who posted the info on the Hydro Hut. You don't know what a relief this was to me to see that other people are having the same issues as I, leaves going lime w/in a week, tips dying back etc. I've been growing in mine for a year and have been pulling my hair out trying to figure out what was wrong. I returned my hut to the vendor told them of the issue, they were aware, and asked for a solution. They offered another new hut, I opened it , this one also had the rusty poles with the white crust on the insides. I rejected the new hut.. however, they had another one which I opened .. White Poles !!.. I took it. I hope things get better. One year of failure has been less than inspiring to say the least. thanks again everyone

Read some of the Hydro Hut threads in the infirmary - start at the back and work forward, a lot of stupid BS in there - especially in the beginning ... also a bunch of good advice in there from HH - like cleaning the inside plastic with alcohol ... and washing the poles with soapy water

Topside foliar feed of Cal Mag will help too

Any troubles ... call Hydro Hut Customer Service ... they strongly stand behind, and support their product and will work you thru this

Wishing you great success

does anyone have any pics of what these hydro huts cause???? i have a hydro hut that i am using just as a dark room. dont have any lights in it. and i dont seem to really see anything as of yet........im hoping my hut doesnt cause me any probs....guess we'll just have to wait and see.

WTF- I just purchased the hydrohut 2x4, is there a production day on where they can confirm LEAD problems? I see a little rust on the edges of my hut, so that means I will have to completely disassemble my hut, put my plants somewhere else, wash these things, and hope for the best?

Why not just turn the damn thing in and save your time?

Oh well, I will call HH and see what they say, hopefully they will stand behind what they say like people say.

I work at an ACE hardware store and I know we sell lead paint test kits for fairly cheap [probably $5-$10, not sure]. Worth a shot.

A lot of places sell lead paint test kits. The one I saw was 8 tests for $13.00.
I doubt that lead is the problem. It is probably some other chemical "gassing" from the vinyl (or whatever that shit is).

From WebMD:
Lead poisoning usually does not cause symptoms until the level of lead in your blood is very high. Most lead poisoning comes from low levels of exposure over a long period of time. The major organ systems affected are the central nervous system, gastrointestinal (digestive) tract, and the renal system (urinary tract).

Chronic lead exposure may cause the following symptoms.

General physical symptoms in children and adults (usually seen when lead poisoning levels are severe)
Stomachaches, cramping, constipation, or diarrhea
Nausea, vomiting
Persistent, unexplained fatigue
Headache
Muscle weakness
Higher rates of tooth decay
Children with chronic low blood lead levels who may not have obvious symptoms of lead poisoning may have learning problems and be smaller in size than children their age who do not have low to moderate levels of lead poisoning. A recent study showed that declines in IQ can even be seen in children with blood lead concentrations below 10 micrograms of lead per deciliter of blood (10 mcg/dL), the level of concern defined by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization.11 Chronic exposure to lead may also cause behavioral problems in these children.

Behavioral symptoms in children
Irritability or aggressiveness
Hyperactivity, being easily distracted, impulsiveness
Learning problems
Lack of interest in play
Loss of appetite
Behavioral symptoms in adults
Irritability
Unexplained changes in mood or personality
Changes in sleep patterns
Inability to concentrate
Memory loss
Neurological symptoms (caused by effects of lead on the nervous system)
Poor coordination
Weakness in hands and feet
Headaches
Seizures
Paralysis
Coma
Diagnosing lead poisoning can be difficult because many other conditions cause similar symptoms.

Severe symptoms of acute lead poisoning can include seizures, unconsciousness, paralysis, or swelling in the brain. However, exposure to such a high level of lead is not common.1 If you experience these symptoms, seek emergency medical care.

romdog11 - I wouldn't start to worry until it affects all your plants at the same time. If you have one plant looking ill, it's more likely to be operator error than the tent causing it.

thanks for the input sammet. it was really hard to tell because i was near the end of flowering for some of my plants so some yellowing was expected. here is an older pic of the plant im talking about. this one is new to flowering and it has some sort of yellowish tent on the top.

i dont think these are the greatest pics but its what i got at the moment. tell me if you guys want to see some better pics and ill post some.

The hydro store near my house has stopped selling hydrohuts for some reason. They were stocked a week or two ago with all sizes and are now selling tents made by hydrofarm. They are called habitats. Anyone hear of them? I just bought the deluxe size one and the quality seems pretty damn good.

A buddy of mine was trying to figure out why he was having problems with his setup even though the environment was near perfect. I told him about this thread and sure enough It turnednout to be the hut releasing toxic fumes. So I would definitly be very careful if anyone plans to continue with the hut. IN my opinion it just isnt worth the hassle.

LMFAO

Boy I sure am glad all the big shot CEO's sold out the American worker so they can stuff their pocketbooks with the money they "saved"...Now everyday we hear about some bad/toxic product coming from the wonderful manufactorers in China

I guess poisening households around the globe is OK, as long as Mr. Greedyhands gets his $8,000,000 salary, and $40,000,000 retirement package...Thank God his company posted a profit, I mean, what else do you expect after he gets the 4-5-6,000 people's salaries that his company just dumped
