Hey fellow guitar lovers... wankin' a Jackson SL2H these days... Pics of the mod I did on the FR trem... Sustains for days...Heavy Metal anyone? I pump it through an 11 rack and an old Lexicon GS2 or whatever it is... Yup, sux to be me. The eleven rack sits on my Tri-axis and Simul-Class 2:90 that I don't even use... Yup, sux...

hey bro my signal chain goes - guitar >tuner >wah wah >phase >vibe >trem >autowah >fulldrive >Delay >sonic stomp >amp

this is the umpteenth config i've had this board/pedals in and i think the best sounding by far

i run the Fulldrive on my clean chan. w almost no dirt> stomp for mild gain, boost for more vol and gain and the amps chan 2 for Max gain which i rarely ever use cuz i'm more a classic rock and blues guy

and yea fulldrive cleans up nice with a little vol. knob backoff.
i'm always tinkerin' with my gear -just diggin on different functional sounds and tones and havin fun, my amp and effects settings can vary a good bit depending on my mood

I don't even know what a fulldrive is, but I can dig the concept of tone. The fact that I own those Mesa toys would underscore that, even though I do not use them these days. Using a wah as a permanent part of a signal chain to me is...Ummm... not desirable would be the PC way to put that.

Just the other day I dialed down my distortion to clean my tone up a bit on the setting I play on most often. What I have discovered after playing on and off for a couple of days now, is that technique is a much bigger deal than having a Axe FX unit, etc. If you're a good student and experiment, you'll figure out how to make your shit sing without a billion enhancements. Less is more and all that shit. Remember, this is coming from a guy who plays distorted almost constantly when electric and the rumor is that guys who do that are covering up their shitty playing...LOLOL... Yeah, I suck like that! I have owned the original cry baby but now let a bad horsey morley wah collect dust next to my expression peddle that I also do not use.

The deal is this, we have only so many colors of paint on our palate and if we use, say Orange, constantly, well that gets old fast. I am saying that if you use ANY effect it can become obnoxious and wah-wah has been abused by the likes of Zakk Wylde (Who is a bad-ass IMO) and others forever. I will admit to overusing pinch harmonics ( not how I do it, but the same thing), but other than distortion, reverb, gate and maybe EQ, that's my base sound when trying to get all Pantera on the world. I can easily make my tone sing by how I use my pick and fret notes without having to rely on the just about middle setting of a wah to bring out the harmonics. I hope that makes sense...

Edit: Oh yeah, in regards to the SL2H, it is the best electric guitar I have owned and I have owned a real Strat, 1979 custom Les Paul and a JS 1000. This is a true journeyman's instrument. It is right up there with ESP, though that would be the one other brand I would be interested in owning if I win the lottery. It is the only guitar I have owned where you can actually hit all of the registers needed to play more difficult pieces without bashing your hand into the cut out constantly or straining your hand because you're having to fret so high you can't keep your thumb behind the neck. It's pure american quality (this is a Fender made version) and everything about it, down to the knobs is substantial and meant to last and/or be easily maintained. I have done all of the set-up work on this and I am a novice, yet would bet money you would say it is one of the best playing machines you have held right before you comment about the fret board being a bit too wide for your tastes.

Some pictures from the Guitar show I attend every couple of years in Northern California.... The first are from 09...the rest from 2011, the next show is in August of this year and it features the finest acoustic guitars and one-off's made today. The fourth guitar pictured with the inlays on the back (and everywhere else) was 60 or 70K by itself, but some collector was buying 3 for like 210K from a Luthier based out of Oakland, CA.

That middle picture is the one and only Charles Fox, BTW. http://www.charlesfoxguitars.com/
