Hey all  ,

I'm currently in the market for a new inline fan and there seem to be quite a few brands, all with similar prices in regards to their CFM output.

A little background info: I will be growing in DIY cab (dimensions kinda irrelevent) using a 400W air cooled hood for veg and a 600W cooltube HPS for flower. The inline fan will be for the 600W colltube HPS cab that I need to assure maintains good temps.

I've been closely looking at all the various inline fan brands in regards to their CFM output and related price. I am just curious if anyone has an experienced suggestion on which fan is the best for the money. As of right now, I'm looking at the 6" Vortex 449 CFM inline, but I am very open to suggestions from those who have used a couple different brands.

My main concerns are airflow and noise. So those of you who have used a few different fans or maybe even one you like, what do you guys think is the most quiet and powerful 6" inline on the market?

Also, if anyone has any 6 inch inline(s) they no longer use, or know where to find a steal of a deal on one that would be greatly appreciated a well

Thanks a bunch all, and happy growing

Thats about exactly what I was looking to do wickedpete, you dont by chance have any pictures of your cab setup do you; I would love to see that.

Are you running a cooltube or a regular 600W air cooled hood?

Also, how many and what size holes are you using for you passive intake?

I want to get this cab finely tuned before any of my precious beans and ladies get a go :smoker:

hey abba...i run the same 400+ cfm vortex in my c24 with my 400's...temps are colder than ambient, lol...I am seriously thinking about a 600 in there eventually... the vortex has been great to me so far, no complaints, it runs 24/7

+1

i tried both canfan & vortex, first the canfan, which does move more air than the vortex but at a cost...its damn near twice as loud...

if sound is not an issue i'd go with the canfan, but i have no complaints with my vortex with its amounts of air pushed and being just about silent.

I got a Vortex 449 and it works very well with a speed controller. Near silent with a speed controller. I only have a 250w but got the large fan for probable future needs. I got the speed controller from Discount Hydro; it only works for inline fans but is prewired and takes up to 15amps. It was pretty cheap too, less than $30 I think. I got the Vortex because with a 10 year warranty it's hard to go wrong. It's easily the longest warranty, I think the next best is like 5 or 7 years.

Also plantlightinghydroponics.com is the cheapest for Vortex fans, I believe even cheaper than mdhydro.

Yeah, $10 cheaper. I've never ordered from mdhydro but have only heard great things. I ordered from plantlight and delivery was fast and pretty cheap. Either store is a good choice.

I use a 6" vortex for my 400w and it works great.

Make sure you get a speed controller with your vortex.
I run mine at about 1/4 speed and its more than enough.

I run an elicent...works great. Friends have Vortex and CanFans...also work great with very comparable cfm output and noise between the 3 of them. IMO, if you've got a great deal lined up on a certain brand get it...otherwise the Vortex is a safe bet and usually a little cheaper.

The only ones I'd stay away from are the Ecoplus fans...they seem to have noticably lower output and are louder....although only marginally.

Thanks for all the replies guys, after thinking it over, I think I will just wait until I see a bargain on a Vortex or Can fan, as they both seem like very stable products.

Im currently leaning more towards the 6" 449 Vortex due to the cost per cfm out and their quietness.

Do you really think I will need a speed controller for this fan exhaust a 6" 600W cooltube? It's something I will look into but didn't consider as I figure the 600 will put off quite a bit of heat in a c22 DIY style cab and I assumed I might need every ounce of that 449 cfm

Take it wasy all

Personally, I wouldn't worry about the speed controller unless the sound of the rushing air is going to be a security concern. If it's your house and you don't have a bunch of people hanging out around where the grow will be, it's kind of a waste IMO.

The only reason u would want a speed controller is for the winter when u need the lights heat to heat the room so u turn the fan down a bit!

I have a Eco plus 4'' fan in at a friends house and I have to say that bitch is super powerful but also SUPER loud! I swear its comparable to my 6' vortex in air pulling and probably twice as loud!! Maybe this one is on steroids but It pulls a 1k and 6 no problem in this heat even!

vortex all the way!!!!! i have a 4, 6, and just bought an 8 inch vortex, 10 years is hard to beat, and it's got a nice heavy duty cord already attached. never owned any other fan but i would think this thing is pretty quiete for all the air it's moving.
