Very interesting expression that high yielding purple hashplant expression with pinkish top, more sativa vigor and reflowerings @sgka  Did the green pheno recover ?

@dubi somewhat. You can see it in the side by side photo. The weird yellowing never recovered, it's just continuing to grow that way

Violetta x Purple Haze Malawi F1 cross

Wanted to see if I could get a taller plant with larger buds and more sativa effect, with a reasonable flowering time, while retaining some of Violetta's color and berry terps. I got 3 distinct phenos:

1) Violetta-type structure - Looks exactly like violetta ... short compact structure with rock hard medium sized purple buds and strong dark berry (huckleberry) with spicy star anise terps. Harvested after 10 weeks.

2) PHM-type Structure - tall lanky branchy structure, all green foliage with very dark green-grey bud material, long flowering time, very light lemon jolly rancher and menthol aromas (Didn't harvest yet so still in tent).

3) Half-N-Half pheno - Medium sized structure, matures a week or two longer than #1, fat long buds that cover the entire branches that are somewhat compact but looser than #1. They have mixed purple-green color, the berry fruit aroma is more freshly crushed wine grapes than dark berries with a spicy incense. They all have a spicy fuel element that can be on the purple flower (violet) side or on the pungent moth ball-bug spray end of the spectrum. Harvested after 11 weeks but could have gone another week or so.

The beautiful ACE genetics are apparent in all of these but I'm really intrigued by the Half-N-Half pheno. I'll post a smoke report in a month or two. I plan to grow these outdoors this Summer to see how they perform. This was a fun project! Peace.

I forgot to mention that I popped 10 beans and 7 survived which were all female ... thought that was odd.

So the type 2 sativa dominant pheno came down today ... needed an extra few weeks. Amazing how they changed. Green-gray color went purple with nice long buds of medium density with medium leaf to flower ratio, although 1 plant was very leafy. Aromas are solid grape-dark berry background with lemon and incense. One plant (the leafy one) has a kerosene type fuel element. Not a lot of frost. Will come back after a good cure. Peace.

Hi, new here,
started one of those a few weeks ago together with some other genetics.
I bought a pack of 5 on a winter sale on seedsman for a very good price; I don't know how old those seeds are and which one of the lines it is. On the package there's no mention of production year or parentage lines (only some generic information on ACE ), I guessed that changed over the years?
I tried to pop 2 and only one made it; the grow rate was low compared to others but the spacing between nodes was already tight and it was the only plant looking very healthy and growing straight up.

I then started to look in here and I saw the creator of ACE seeds very dedicated and giving super detailed information about his cultivars which I found inspiring and motivated me in go on and pop more of this Violeta, super curious about what kind of phenotypes I'll get :)).
I put two more directly in a mix of coco and worm castings in a dome on heat mat, and both germinated in one and two days.
(crazy how sometimes this method works much faster then soak 8hrs -paper towel in plastic bag half open-spray etc).
anyway,
here the first one, before topping 5 days ago

here after:

Love it, I wasn't sure if topping was the right way to go about it, is it worth to experiment something different with the ones I have coming?
Plant count is not going to allow me to flower all of them together, some I might keep in veg for longer and maybe give it a try outdoor,
any suggestions on which trait to look for when making this selection?

Day 72. The last female standing. Still rolling, buds flopping over and held up by nets. She'll come down this weekend if she doesn't wrap it up before then only due to refill protocols. Will be revegging her for future use. Very grapey

Hi @JonnyWeedSeed thanks for sharing pics of the fresh finished product. Plant in first pic shows a more classic purple PCK hashplant indica phenotype, while sencond one shows more sativa influence from Malawi, perhaps she needed a few more days of ripening. Hope you have found at least 1 good mother of your taste to keep for future runs.

Welcome to ICMag @sweetpaasta :) and thanks for chosing Violeta for your current grow!

Usually hashplant indica dom strains react slow to topping at seedling stage, but glad this was not the case, yours reacted quickly producing strong branching 💪

The best selection depends on your taste: what variations and traits you like the most within the strain.
When growing a new strain, you need to grow a few plants first before being able to judge that.

This more sativa, higher yielding and longer flowering pheno looks something special, even more with that pinkish cresta @sgka :headbange hope the quality and potency of the smoke is on par with her beauty and yield.
Please, keep us updated with your insights, thanks a lot for all the great pics and updates!

Happy to announce that a Violeta selected and grown by Pudding Hill Farm won 3rd prize for licensed facility hybrid flower at the 2025 Boston NECANN Cup among 150 entries :dance013:

Not bad for an 'old' strain released more than a decade ago, and an indica, not in our specialty ... should grow and introduce our sativas!!

This is a cut from the plant in 679.
I'm sorry but life got in the way of reporting back.
I cut the previous one around 65 days of flowering.
Smells: piney and citrus, slightly fruity
Taste: hints of pine and citrus but there was this taste like a viola hand lotion smells. weird but attractive.

Because the previous one was so tiny I was aiming for a ~3x3 scrog. I let her grow 2 weeks too long because I was/am fighting a huge thrips infestation that I wanted to get rid of before flowering. I failed. But she's a hardy one. Those super root air thing pots are a pain if you got thrips, it's like an incubator for them.
Should have gone with a bigger pot though.
Flipped the switch on 14.02., so we're just starting week 7.
She's underfed and full of pests, just like I like my women.
