My dad was a recon, WWII, he rarely talked about the war. But this one stuck with me. At a home in Belgium they asked if they had seen any Germans, The reply was "Yes, they were here last night."

I must edit this...the way I understood it...they all were looking for a refuge.

It always amazes me, those quickest to aid with humanity are often the first to have it taken away... I couldn't imagine the lasting emotions such a event would have on someones life... Thank you for sharing Betterhaff

Heady, I'm still searching down if it was a real person or not, I'm guessing it was, so much history lost...

Blitzed Gardens

Early on during WW2 German bombers went on a night time raid over London. During the waves of bombers, a bomb was dropped right next to Westminster Cathedral, barley missing the historic landmark.

In traditional British satire a statement was made, a Victory garden was planted right in the crater of the bombs explosion...

Sweet Marihuana Brown

Boy she's really fancy,
the wildest chick in town.
She blows her gage,
flies in a rage,
Sweet Marihuana Brown.

In her Victory Garden,
the seeds grow all around,
She plants you dig,
she's flipped her wig,
Sweet Marihuana Brown

She don't know where she's going,
she don't care where she's been,
But everytime you take her out,
she's bound to take you in.

Boy, that gal means trouble,
you ought to put her down.
Get hip, take care,
look out, beware,
of Sweet Marihuana Brown

She don't know where she's going,
she don't care where she's been.
But everytime you take her out,
she's bound to take you in.

Boy, that gal means trouble,
you ought to put her down.
Get hip, take care,
look out, beware,
of Sweet Marihuana Brown

"Most of the illicit material in the 1960s came from Mexico. So, in collaboration with the D.E.A. and the Mexican government, we acquired those seeds. Later, we acquired others from Colombia, Thailand, Jamaica, India, Pakistan and places in the Middle East. That permitted us to study chemical and botanical differences. By 1976, we were growing about 96 different varieties."

A Taxpayer-Funded Marijuana Garden

At the Coy W. Waller Laboratory Complex on the campus of the University of Mississippi lies a hidden garden. The only federally legal marijuana garden in the United States growing cannabis under the cloak of secrecy since 1968...

In 1968, the National Institutes of Health along with the Bureau for Narcotics(DEA predecessor) contracted the University of Mississippi to grow the governments stash...

Labeled The Marijuana Research Project or M-Project, Dr. Coy Waller, director of the newly established Research Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (RIPS), under the School of Pharmacy, oversaw the project.

A area next to the original Economic Plant Garden was fenced off and tight security instituted. With Marijuana seeds hitting the soil, it would be the first legal cannabis seeds to to sprout from American soil since the Hemp for Victory campaign...

Just Say No

Dr. Carlton Turner took over early operations of M-Project and by 1976 had amassed over 96 different varieties of cannabis...

Carlton Turner would leave M-Project in the 80's to become the Director of Drug Abuse Policy in the Reagan White House...

You can thank Mr. Carlton Turner for campaign's like 'Just Say No'...

Giving an interview in October 1986 to Newsweek, Carlton Turner said that “Marijuana leads to homosexuality, the breakdown of the immune system, and ultimately, AIDS.”... I shit you not...

My first job here had to do with poison ivy. Then a better-paying position opened up at the Marijuana Project, and I moved to that. I liked the research, and I got on well with my supervisor and mentor, Dr. Carlton Turner, who later became the director of drug abuse policy in the Reagan White House. So, this work, it just happened.

-Mahmoud A. ElSohly

Taking over for Dr. Turner, his understudy, Dr. Mahmoud Elsohly took over the program where he still runs it to this day.

The cannabis grown at the University of Mississippi is said to go to "Federally Approved Researchers"...

M-Project also supplies the surviving medical patients grandfathered into the Compassionate Investigational New Drug program.

With very little research granted and a recent $68.8 million contract extension, adding acreage to the outdoor garden to now total 12 acre's, with an inside facility "at least 1000 square feet, having controls for light intensity, photo cycles, temperature, humidity, and carbon dioxide concentration" growing in excess of 30,000 plants, one has to wonder?....

Who is all this cannabis for?

Interestingly, this article from 1905 gives credit to 'indian women' for growing cannabis in North America...

Can we all just agree to bring back the term 'Draft'? Used in a sentence: 'Hey, let me get a Draft off that pipe.' After you stop coughing, 'Damn, that was a big Draft.'

That's what I was wondering, where is it all going? All these years, I know some went to the few that had the federal prescription for mj, but there are not many left so who's smoking it all?????

They probably use most of it for research purposes and any left forced to destroy it. I'm now curious if the people who have access to it get searched when they leave the facilities.

Billy, agreed on the draft, needs to come back, sounds better than 'hit'.

Speaking of draft, never seen a volunteer that looks like it's been mulched. Although maybe it was a volunteer that somebody decided to give some TLC.

I agree Herman.

They deal joints. They just want the program to go away and it will when the last patient dies. The irony is the government still refuses to admit any medical benefit and the only reason they say they do it is the result of court order. Yet some of these patients have had their quality of life improved and prolonged even after years and years of steady use with little or no side effects.
