I was pondering your comments about the best weed staying local. I reflected back to the latter part of the 60s when a friend of mine would vacation in Jamaica. The first couple of years he would purchase low grade commercial weed sold to tourists. Then he met people who would take him up into the mountains were he could buy a much higher quality weed. Since I looked after his home and cats while he was gone I always managed to enjoy some of this fine product.
indeed ... i think it was 1970, we would buy single seed-infused oz's for 15bucks- a co-worker had some weed he claimed was from Jamacia , at 35bucks... i bought an oz despite my friends calling dickhead, asshole, and the weed was really good... thereafter i met a an engineer from a grancolombiana ship in brooklyn who brought me the darkest weed i had seen... even to this day i have never seen anything as dark... after smokin 1/2 a joint, you would have tar on your fingers- that was some amazing weed-

From late 2007 until 2011 I moved the family to Georgia to help my dad out. He died in 08 and we stayed to take care of my step Mom out. In 2010 the wife and kids and I took a holiday in Bogota to see her family. Once we got to Bogota I immediately called my buddy George and set up a purchase. For 35000 COP I bought 500 grams of no name weed that was grown in Corinto (Cauca). This was some of the last really good traditional Colombian I would see. Weed from Corinto could still be found till 2015 but not of this quality.
IMG_5262.JPG

When I refer to quality I'm referring to the hit. Zero bag appeal, brown musty taste and smell, full of seeds and stems.
IMG_5259.JPG

Wasn't overwhelming potent but 10 minutes after just a few hits and the effect was incredible. Very uplifting euphoric onset that came to a beautiful peak rather slowly.
I really liked it and after several years of smoking "mids" in Georgia this stuff was an exotic treat.
IMG_5261.JPG

Compared to even the best I could get in White county this Corinto had the hit I wanted. I wouldn't say a stronger high than the mids in GA but a better one for me. We only stayed in Bogota for 10 days but it was a great trip for all of us. Returning to Georgia wasn't easy because I couldn't bring the half pound I had left with me and ended up gifting it to my brother in law. I remember returning to our house and going for the the stash I had saved. Disappointed.

I've had this plant for over 5 months now, flowering about 45 days.
I couldn't see this as a commercial plant even if you thousands of them. This is a growers plant that usally is what we used to call head stash.
IMG_20240131_135011891_MFNR~2.jpg

She really likes the greenhouse and is the only plant unaffected by the slugs that are really a problem for the other plants.
IMG_20240131_135028547_MFNR~2.jpg

This is a true tropical plant that needs to be grown in the tropics to bring out it's best.

A little off topic, but I've noticed on your pics of plants that there is no sign of damage from bugs. Are these plants resistant to pests, or is it not a problem in Colombia? I would have thought that an outdoor grow in your part of the world would have lots of pest problems?

That's a very good question and wish I could give a solid answer. The truth is over the years of growing at a few different locations here Colombia I've experienced every insect, pathogens, worms, catapillers and even goats and donkeys attacking my plants. It's luck that I can harvest anything.
IMG-20211003-WA0014.jpeg

Also I follow a strict rule of no chemicals, pesticide, fungicide or any type of liquid nutrients. Most of my plants were bred here and are naturally resistant pathogens and some insects but not all of them.
IMG-20211003-WA0000.jpeg

Bottom line here or wherever you grow is constantly. I only do one thing and that's grow. I'm the first one in the greenhouse and I don't leave until every plant has been inspected. I do this everyday, not because I have to because I want to. But it's always a race to finish the plant before something else does. Don't even think about drying and curing.

Well, I envy you! You grow beautiful plants!
And thank-you for letting everyone see what it is like down there in Colombia. It has always been on my bucket list to visit there, (Colombian herb from the 70's has always been my favourite) but now I am old, and sadly, I don't think I will get there! So it leaves me to live vicariously through your adventures!

Like I was saying, the best never goes far from the farm. I believe there's more cannabis in the world now then there ever has been in our known history. More smokers and really much more socially acceptable then ever before. I don't think this is a good thing, what used to be cool is now common. Even people I know that grow and really study the plant confuss potency with quality. Nothing I enjoy more than turning some one on to real mountain grown Colombian. It's then when I feel people really know where I'm coming from.

Colombian Sun grown Jamaican

Everybody has YouTube now even here so even the mass produced commercial here is a copy of the strains popular in California. But there are a few here that do appreciate and carefully cultivate tropical plants, but it's not easy to find without knowing someone really nice.

So I believe that if you're cool and want to come to the the land of eternal spring and experience very local primo sativa. You should contact me for the best safest Colombian experience with people that understand quality.

Hell come on down meet the family, I live right next to the best American owned B&B in Colombia. Got some nice harvests coming up this spring, not only mine but some really good local growers too. The weather is perfect.

Coming up on 7 months almost 8 really since germination. This plant didn't really like growing in a container but once in the ground it took off. It's a very delicate plant by at the same time super resident to pests and pathogens. The slugs that are feasting on the Hawaiian don't even touch this one. But it's the time that makes this one a challenge, still have a long way to go.

The weather has changed after 42 days of cloudless skies. Here you really need some overcast days or the sun will scorch the earth. Yesterday was a dark gray day with beautiful light rain for hours finishing with a sunny sunset.

Everything is going green again.

I wish I could brother, but my past life dictates that I stay home, working, to keep the lights on. Sucks not being able to retire at 70 yrs old!

I understand, I'm sixty one and you wouldn't believe the sacrifices I made and continue to make to live here. But if the opportunity ever shows up you got an invite.

The Colombian Muisca decided that she wants longer flowers and is streaching a bit. Although leafy it's a nice plant with an old school lumbo hit.
IMG_20240207_074748241_MFNR~2.jpg

The parents were much bigger than this phenotype but I'm also growing higher than the other location. But same morphology just smaller. Most domestic Colombian varieties I've grown take this shape.
Not even close to being finished but at least the slugs aren't bad but I did notice minimal damage.

A slug will follow another slugs slime trail looking for love.

The Hawaiians (actually African Haze hybrid) are incredible. I have 3 similar phenotypes in the greenhouse and the slugs have been eating the f... out of them. Two have a lot more damage but despite this assault the Hawaiian is putting out insane flower.
IMG_20240208_173617782_MFNR~3.jpg

The plants are strong green with bright white pistols. It's a race though to finish the flowers before the slugs do. I'm still trying different treatments for slug control so this situation will soon be resolved.
IMG_20240208_173557491_MFNR~2.jpg

So I'm hoping to have some F2s from these plants to do a couple more evaluation runs
IMG_20240208_173546315_MFNR~3.jpg

Great genetics from the island breeder but still untested. I do have one female Hawaiian at the house growing in a container. I want to flower one up here at the house to compare. Very nice plant to grow because it's very vigorous and unique morphology. I believe the hits going to be off the chain. I also pollenated all the females with this incredible variety.
