having been a Celebrity Judge I can tell you that the judging is very hit & miss
you can't judge 20 odd Sativa strains in 24 hrs
then do 20 odd indica's the next day never mind the bubble hash and imported hash
most people that have been to a few cups will tell you they wern't impressed
and getting to sample all the entry's is almost impossible

this year's Expo being a ferry ride in the freezing cold will put lots of people off
me included so I doubt it will be well attended and so far I've seen little else
to intice people to attend, normally by this time the town is plastered with cup stuff
well not this year its as if someone forgot there is a cup going on

Especially since Arjan has quite a few of his strains developed by Shanti if I'm not mistaken... Give credit where credit is due I'd say.

I'd say there's a real good reason Shanti washed his hands of the "king of cannabis." If Shanti turns his back that's good enough for me, I don't have to debate why he did.

High Times has no one to blame but in-house for their notorious reputation and greed, their credibility has disappeared as a viable cultivar reference and we have no need to indulge them or anything they promote to the high school crowd for huge profits. Don't begrudge successfull marketing though, comic books have always had a place in history. We have all seen the "invaluable contributions" they've made to the community - they are legends only in their own minds and think their fat bank accounts equate to credibility...

IMHO the true cup needs local chapters of cultivars contributing and sharing their knowledge without politics and profits clouding the picture. High Times thinks because they promote and present something it must be great (wait - hasn't the Bush administration followed that thinking with Irag?) But the true growers in the field know the score, and we share amazing plants that they can only dream of and never lay hands on. I welcome the day that local grower chapters elect to present their local best to the growing community and humbly bow to the prestige of the invitation to enter the true 420 cup for global judgement based on something besides profit.

I see no reason to fly to A'dam to judge weed. I can find almost any strain they have in A'dam in the states as well and grown a bit better. No worries about keifed buds or immature buds, no worries of herb being sprayed with shit. My girl and i have mini cups all the time when i have a harvest with many strains. And if i dont have something i like i could call a grower in my area and have it sent over ASAP. No need to fly over there and pay for cub par herb when there is better here\

well most people don't have friends with 20 strains, or even 2 strains. a lot of people have never had a choice of weed. the other major difference is the state of the law. in amsterdam you can really party and don't have to worry that the guy you might be passing the joint to is a narc. for most folks a trip to amsterdam is very much worth it.

the coolest thing about going at this time of the year is that the coffee shops all have the best strains that they have available. from what i have heard anyway and judging by arjans ultra haze, that seems to be the case.

Yeah, HTCC (High Time Cannabis Cup) was the big hooha until the judging became based on greed, if you had enough bribe the "judges" voted for you.

A fair growers' cup was needed without political agendas and bribery, so the 420 Cannabis Cup was born on 4/20. Think of one as a popularity contest and the other as a blind judged grower/breeder face off of the best strains trimmed, flushed and cured to a perfect toke.

I always wanted to go to the 420 IC cup, never to the HTCC for the above mentioned reasons and more., even though Amsterdam sounds like alot of fun for the carefree partying for sure, I'd be scared to be in an event with some of those sharks.

I mean, I saw that Arjan video on youtube maybe 2 weeks ago and was kind of turned off. I have no clue who these guys are (A'dam seed companies) aside from a few like Soma etc that stop by here. I was pretty disgusted at the way the guy calls himself the KING, KIng King of Cannnabeeeeees.

How cool he is, how he is king, how THEY are professional, how Marco can grab buds well and shake them like $5 hookers. I guess his whole arrogance made me feel like I never want to meet him or his crew. Maybe his ULTRA SPECIAL ARJAN HAZE is great, but I don't even want it if that's the kind of shit I got to deal with. I always heard his name and that strain, and imagined a totally different type of person. Won 30 cups? WTF, many judges are obviously biased..

Just my opinion, I'd rather meet MOD, Rez, BOG, Soma, DJ, RED, Shanti etc, just cool breeders who love Cannabis and from what I've seen here, 420 Cups are the true connoiseur's meet. Peace

very true flamengo, i think the main difference would be , some breeders are down to earth , and some play off of the hype like mr. arjan. i must admit the video is pretty damn sweet, but he does sound like a dick.

and do you guys really think the weed really lowers in quality the few weeks prior to these events??

Maybe because that is his (elite ) clone... I mean come on every single plant is exactly the same.. yep I'm sure when you buy a pack of their soon to be joke winner of the CC. every plant will look just like theirs do

I feel all breeder entrees should start from a pack of their seeds..maybe 2.
If you are using a clone then that should be a coffee shop entree because it is not a true rep of their seeds..just my thoughts..

It just makes good business sence to promote yourself, any of the judges should vote on what it is they are tasting, smelling seeing and sencing IN THE PRODUCT. End of.

Queso, the 420 cup isnt local. its organized for icmag members. The highlife cup is dutch, but its for coffeshops and growshops. I dont know how corrupt they are , and if they are. But its kind of different than the CC , because people know they will send thousands of seeds if they win.

And they do cure the weed specially for the cup, normally it is never cured in the coffeeshops, NEVER. Sometimes the wining strain isnt even for sale anymore ,a week after the cup.
