From my little experience with vert i have also noticed that the oscilating fan being at the lowest speed is best. Especially if you have your oscilating fan blowing directly to your carbon filter-exhaust fan combo. It competes with using a cooltube easily! (not that i would use cooltubes with vert, been there done that, did not like the results).

Inspirational thread to say the least Ic! Can't thank you enough!

we aren't talking oscilating fans buddy, we are talking the small fans u place under the lights and blow straight up the lights. I think u mean the same thing but we aren't trying to move the fan, we want it to shoot straight up at the bulbs, and if u can put ur exhaust fan and filter above the lights, then it creates a nice steady column of air sucking the warm air away from the canopy and not blowing it into the canopy.

Hey bro, i am talking exactly about the same thing as you are talking! Its just that english is not my native language and sometimes i am not very comprehensive! I am reffering to the same thing you are talking about in your sentence from the beginning until the end!

Ok, oscilating means that the fan can rotate around. I just wanted to make clear that is not what u want in the situation we are talking about.:tiphat:

Just wanted to help make sure u were using the right kind of fan down there. Sounds like u got it.

No worries buddy, i have gotten the fan part alright! Because i always used multiple lights with vert, i needed the same amount of "honeywell" fans as well. I've changed many of them during those few years i grow.

What i need is some clarification with the training part for vert doughnuts. Mr. Ichabod, do you prune your plants to have only branches on the plants that face directly the vertical light? If so, when do you do this? I know you train them on the screens, but i don't remember having seen you mentioning pruning.

In essence, if you happen to stumble across a bushy plant, will you prune the side of it that does not see the vert hps directly? And when?

:tiphat:

In veg I don't prune at all with one exception. That is when I up pot the plant. I take the lower branches so the branches do not sit on the media I plant in.

When I place my plants into flower I do a lot of pruning. My goal here is to get the screen about 80% filled in one dimention. And I want the best branches for this, I consider the best to be thick healthy branches at the top of the plant. These are the branches I tie to the screen first.

After these are tied to the screen I will fill in any voids with the side branches. Finally after using the top and side facing branches I will use the branches facing the front and back. The branches facing the front and back tend to snap off more so they are last to be used.

I also trim any small branches near the main stem as these don't usually produce much. I bend branch tips in the middle to fill the center in.

Damn busted. I don't grow at all. I just get mine next to old abandoned rail lines from the thirties.

But can't load pictures till I fix the desk top. Sorry.

He's not down, just too lazy to fix his computer. I mean he hires out all of his trimming... so wtf is the deal? The mites probably carried his camera off into his overvegged canopy. :biglaugh:

Who says you cant put an oscilatting fan on the floor?? 1 fan actually can blow the heat up on 3 bulbs, or more.

Ha cool, so those rotate back and forth down ur line. I was thinking more donut style like ic and I do, but I see how it can work for ur set up.

nice

Do u get any leaf damage from fan wind on them? Ive experimented with different size fans, and when I use the big 20" fans I get wind damage. But I use 600's so maybe im closer to the bulb than u, cause I think u use 1k's.

Ok, very good to know that info! I was under the impression that pruning during flowering will do more harm than good! That's why i asked if it is better to do it earlier! In my mind it seems better to prune bushy plants from veg, since there are branches that for sure are not going to be facing direct light and you can say that before you turn them to flowering. First time trying doughnuts, i was growing more in a stadium style before.

So, when you are referring to up-potting, you cut the bottom of the container and just put it on top of another bigger one? I have some girls in 5 gal pots which seem that they will need more gallons of soil come flowering time. I was thinking about transplanting them to 7 or 10 gal pots. But it gets messy very much when you are transplanting from such big pots. That's why i was considering what i described to you.

Bobblehead, now that i see you in this thread, you are into organic growing right? I am growing in organic soil too. From your experience, a 5 gal pot is not suitable for a plant that will veg for 2 months and then go into flowering? Sorry for the many questions guys, wishing you the best!

Up potting is just moving to a bigger pot. Say a beer cup to a one gallon pot. I like to set the beer cup down into the pot and cover some of the stem. But to do this I have to remove some of the lower branches.

Stacking pots can be done but I don't do it because I need the height. Would make the pots to tall and I would lose some grow area. If you up pot make sure they have some time to get roots into the new pot. If you don't it has been my experience that it will not be hardly used.

I prune when I place the plant into flower. During stretch I try not to prune much. Only when I have to. After stretch I will prune again but slowly so I don't stall the plant by causing shock. Really I like to get all my pruning done when I first place them into flower. But that is not always possible because growth is not always what you expect it to be.
