Water/Nutes Question

Water/Nutes Question

Just a quick question regarding water and nutes. My tap water is about 80 ppm and my filtered water from my refrigerator is about 55 ppm. I also have RO water that comes in bottles that is about 2 ppm. The ph of all of the water in question is in the range of 5.5 to 6.5.

First question is which water should I use? So far I've used the water from my refrigerator @ 55 ppm.

The second question is what level in PPM should I use for nutes? I'm using General Hydroponics FloraGro. I've read that you should use about half of what the manufacturer recommends. GH recommends 400-600 PPM. Based on that, I used 300 PPM starting yesterday. Before that I used about 100 PPM.

Thanks OakyJoe! This is my first grow. I'm not doing 12/12 although I originally planned on it. My plan is to keep these plants on a 24 hr photoperiod all of the way through veg stage. I'm gonna veg the single female I keep until she's about 3 1/2 feet tall and then flip to 12/12. I'm gonna use Chlormequat Chloride right at the flip to completely stop the stretch and help induce flowering. Have you done a grow log on zamaldelica? How was the high?

Its my first time with Zamaldelica! But they got a good stretch since she is a sativa :)

dont know the product you will use.... looks interessting

Also why u using water from ur refrigerator? :)

Hi timmur,

Thanks for your Zamaldelica diary. I'm far to be an experienced sativa micro grower, but i think can be done with nice results, Waldgeist just finished a very nice Zamaldelica from seed in a micro setup and his experience could be very valuable for your setup.

Best wishes!

@dubi
Hi and thanks for stopping by! I've been keeping an eye on Waldgeist's zamaldelica micro grow and I'm hoping he stops by as well.

@OakyJoe
Using water from the refrigerator as it is filtered. It's got slightly less hardness than my tap water. Stretch Stopper (Chlormequat Chloride) is a controversial PGR (plant growth regulator) that can completely eliminate the stretch if applied as at the flip. Good luck with your grow!

Little more growth

Little more growth

Well here's a quick update. I'm hoping someone will offer advice on the nutes question. I don't see any problems, but I'd still like to hear from those with more experience. Also, I'm seriously considering culling two of the weaker ones and put the other four into the cab. Thoughts?

Sulfur deficiency?

Sulfur deficiency?

I'm hoping experienced growers will help me diagnose the issue with these plants below. I looked up common problems and how they manifest themselves and It looked to me like a sulfur deficiency. Can anyone confirm or tell me what the problem might be?

Need some advice

Need some advice

I'm hoping experienced hyrdo growers will take a look at the photos of my plants and offer some advice.

When I took the previous pics posted the nute mix was messed up as I misunderstood GH's instructions and only used the FloraGro (to 300 PPM) without the other parts. Once I realized my mistake I re-mixed a nute solution that was about 400 PPM and equal parts of the GH Flora series. The pH was 6.7 which I believe is a bit high. What pH should I target? This is what the plants look like since I made the change.

Well here's the latest update. The plants seem to have gotten past the pH/nute issue. I can see growth on a daily basis and they are drinking quite a bit! Prolly be able to weed out the males next week and then pick the single female to grow out in the cab.

Just another update. Should be able to determine gender very soon! Got a slight nute issue. The leaves are starting to curl slightly. Any suggestions welcome.

Hi Waldgeist. Thanks for stopping by! The plants are growing very quickly. No pics today, but I'll get some posted shortly. No signs of preflowers yet so I can't make a selection and get one in the cab. It seems like they should be old enough now to reach sexual maturity, but I'm not seeing any signs yet. Thanks for the advice on the pH. I've adjusted to that range and it has been strong healthy growth ever since; I have to adjust the height of the light on a daily basis!

Sorry for the lack of updates. I've been busy interviewing for a new job and getting ready to move. A friend of mine has taken over the grow for now. He just selected a female today and put her in the cab. I'll get him to shoot me pics so that I can post a real update.

Finally in the cabinet!

Finally in the cabinet!

Finally have a pic to share of the single female in the cab. I'm not able to get pics as easily as before because I'm just getting ready to move so my friend is taking care of the grow for now. Waited forever to determine gender, but finally had to flip to 12/12 for a week to get them to show!

That girl has nice structure. Is she the only fem that is going to be flowered?

Is your friend going to handle the whole round?

Good luck on the job hunting and move!

Hey blynx thanks for stopping by! Yeah she's the only one to flower. The males were much bigger but the nodal spacing was also much greater. I hope to take the grow back before it's all over, but it will depend on getting out of temp housing and into a permanent house quickly.

Another quick update. After flipping the lights to 12/12 for almost a week gender selection was complete. Unfortunately the single female kept to grow in the cab would not revert out of flower and back to veg, so it is currently back on 12/12 and flowering. Kinda sucks, but here are a few pics.
