Hey VG, i'm putting together a cab that's inspired by yours. I got a question for you, are your 2x2x3.5 dimensions ideal for the 250w? or would you make yours bigger if you had the space? I'm just trying to get an idea how big I should build my cab to get best efficiency out of a 250w hps.

bobby - thanks - yep my first nomination!

Hammerhead. - this is how the story goes for Mr. Greengenes Cherry Bomb. he found some seeds in a batch of Maui Wowie that his friend bought. grew them out and found a cherry pheno female and pollinated it with 3 males afaik. then he inbred it for many f's - 10-20 i think but he never put heavy selection pressure on the line, preferring to keep the variation.
this is Mr G's thoughts on the genetics of that Maui Wowie
My guess on the origin of the Maui Wowee that CB came from is that it was originally a pure sativa by way of Thailand and possibly crossed with an indica while in Hawaii. In the first generation, there were only two females, but some five or more males. All of CB is down from one of those females. I regret that I gave the all of the seeds of her sister to a friend who lost the line. That was back when I didn't know better. The sister was smaller, lower yielding, but with honey sweet oily resin that was quite 'Thai-ish'. Now I wish I'd kept her in the mix because, though she might have been a tad less potent, she had a sweeter more fruity smell and taste. The main CB female was also quite 'Thai-ish' and had a strong cherry lifesaver taste with a metallic finish and oily resin (the kind that creeps up the doobie and turns the paper brown). The kind of Thai weed I'm referring to is not the kind we used to get on sticks, but the very gourmet 'chocolate thai' of the early-mid seventies. Cherry Bomb still reminds me, and others who've smoked it, of that chocolate thai. Other smells and tastes sometimes associated with CB are coffee and tobacco. Due to my some times too ruthless selections, CB has got a bit more potent over the years, which may possibly mask some of the more subtle flavors and smells. I've noticed that there's a relationship between the red stems and petiols and the fruity metallic tastes, and also that those tastes are easier to detect in less potent plants.
marn - my cab is 24x28" 2x2 is pretty good - i reckon maybe 24x30" would be ideal for max efficiency but you also need to know about the footprint of your reflector

tr1ck - i appreciate the support, the eyes pic is pretty awesome though. still a few weeks to go on the CB's so maybe i'll get another good shot

Hey Verdant! Fantastic stuff, as usual.

I had a couple of questions, if you don't mind. I've asked you in another thread in the past, but I've long since lost the post and can't find it.

I'm starting up my scrog (For real this time), and I need some advice on the screens. I'm doing a mod scrog similar to your own (Thanks for such a great idea) under 2 x 126w HGL panels. The panels will be 5" above the screen (moved when needed), giving an approximate coverage of 11" x 22".

My screen sizes are 11" x 11" of usable space (12" 12" if you include the 1/2" thick wood for the scrog screen). Is this big enough? Can I expect decent yields off of such a small area?

How long would you recommend vegging in such an area for a heavy sativa (Kali Mist)? For an indica? I know it will vary based on the plant, but I'm hoping to get a ballpark estimate so as to not completely screw myself over this first run. :)

Thanks for the great journal. You're an inspiration to us newer folk!

I'm not sure if it was in this journal, or the other, but that cherry bomb with the colorful pistils was a real beauty. I need to find myself one of those just to have for visual pleasure!

cheers g0v :)

Darkgan, first off i would say the 5" isnt far enough away for those LED units. you want at least 6-8 " or some strains will show light bleaching. 1ft screens (you include the frame in the measurement are very similar in size to my own, which are 12x13 - so you should be able to pull at least a couple of oz of each one. vegging, the kali's will need less, what is more important than time is to keep them short - so top them at 5 nodes, and then maybe again. these sativas wont flower until they are a certain age. i tend to wait until they are at least a month old from seed as trying to flower them earlier wont help much. indicas you want to veg for longer - so as they are filling at least half the screen when flipped. you will get a feel for it as you go on. also a bit of research is good for new strains to find out about stretch and feeding etc.

D9, the smell of the pretty one is not far off cherry - and developing all the time. started off smelling like pez/palma violets and as they age a more acid/metallic smell is there too. the other one is similar but also has a skunky/musky smell to it too.

hazy, thanks for stopping by, hope you're well

so am i SB - they are starting to ripen, from the bottom upwards. the smell is gelling into a definitely cherry twang on the pink one. i dont think the buds will dry with much density. it seems quite thai influenced as Mr G. suspects.
the diesels are starting to look pretty chunky too. :dance013:

I was hoping the maroon pistils would turn some other fantastic colour when they ripened.....nope....brown it is lol

How long do you expect the Cherry Bombs to run? I see the fans are starting to go...

Top-notch.

Looking pretty dank in there VG. Those Sours look to be producing. What are your first impressions of the elite cuts you are running? Look to be living up to the hype to me! Great skills mate.

SD dna?
Thought at first I was looking at some sour diesel, and that's what the SD was for, then saw the dna. My memory sucks sometimes, just when I think I know what my friends are growing... I guess I need to go back and reread.lol.

SD is sour diesel, the cut was originally sourced through DNA.
the other ECSD is the CC cut.

CB2 is looking amazing, those pistils are really beautiful colour.

did the DCq yeild as well as expected or not so, because i just chopped a triploid, that i forgot to weigh prior to hanging, and was just a little curious what you thought of the polyploid yeild. bobby stainless is the only other ive seen with a grow out a polyploid, but i definantly kept clones... though none have shown the genetic trait as the mother did, curious huh?? ill have to take pics of it and put them up, maybe tomorrow...
