hey gov - yes you're right, it could be awesome - just a bit ironic because i wanted to bx to the bubba. looking forward to smoking the cross - should be tasty! - i also re-did the original bubba x DC cross, hopefully i'll get more than one seed this time!
hey cheesebuds the food is in the organic soil really - main sources are N guano and p guano, with some rock dusts and seaweed meal.
they get mainly water with just a bit of weak comfrey extract now and again.
i'll get some photos of the bubba scrog up next week.
DD, funny you should say that, ive been hankering after trying an og kush ever since i liked the bubba so much. sounds like its a li'l bit more on the sativa side and more stretchy - the bubba does have a bit of stretch in it but it stays low which is good for this cab.
phr0st - LEDs' are getting better all the time and there seems to be a good selection of decent brands on the market these days. the only thing is you cant grow the plants right up to the lamp - you need a bit of space the same as with an hps - depending on the particular light of course.

the cherryjuana looks good but i would say the pheno i have is pretty heri dominant - perhaps with the leaves a little smaller and more jagged. i need to look in blimey's gallery pics as he's grown out a few more than me.

I found the leaf shape very consistent across the phenotypes....your nose is the best tool....a majority (heri dom?) have a faint plastic/plasticene smell through the first 45 or so.....which will become more nail-varnish/acetone (or possibly mothballs/camphor) as they ripen up....these also seem to be the least colourful. If you can smell fruit....that is my favourite (I'm guessing Cherry Bomb dom....yet to toke either heri or CB).
Potency/high seemed pretty even across the phenos....very strong....intense is the word I'd use rather than sledeghammer. It'll put you down if you're already tired, but not couchlocky per se.
In my album.....anything labelled with an E is the fruity pheno, B, C and D were all the acetone gals, and they were much more common.
hey snap thanks! - i think the bubba is good at about 9 weeks but may take it 10 - although plants seem to ripen a little quicker under this LED - possibly the far red in the spectrum.
hi blimey - obviously one girl isnt much to draw conclusions from at this end but it looks like the pheno you had most commonly in your tests. tbh at this stage if someone told me it was a pure heri i would believe them. interesting how the CB doesnt seem too dominant in the cross - which could be great news because i used them as the male to cross to all the elites like chem, trainwreck and the diesels.
it would be nice if the cherryjuana came out similar to the heri but with a little more nose and taste - which wouldnt be difficult because heri is pretty bland in that dept. - but potency wise it lacks nothing at all! a little more vigor would be good too and CB has that for sure.
GP thanks for checking in !
cheers
VG
gave all the plants a little topdressing of EWC slurry yesterday. the bubba is starting to yellow at the tops just slightly.
i also think the CB may be a better out-cross for the bubba, but im still planning to make S1's with the bubba and possibly a Bubba x Chem D feminised cross - which on paper sounds promising for sure.
The whole thing about the CB's lack of agressive dominance didn't click with me until just now....I was reading a thread about picking males up in the Breeders Lab.....and I wanted to say "just go with the male that doesn't stomp on the female".....but in a better way...but someone beat me to it...but only just now did I realise you'd used just such a male for the ChJ.
All my Cherrybomb offspring are girls! Happy as Larry......cos I'm dying to smoke some Cherry Dog and Cherrybomb....the Cherry bomb is destroying the Cherry Dog for vigour hands down btw....go figure......so it looks like one of your original haze "f2" boys will be fathering some beans with the cherryjuana....branchy mofo (the haze)....massive lateral branching like I've never seen....
I think Bubba x anything is a good bet.....not many bubba hybrids out there at all. Of course, now you have the silver.....I'm thinking KCreme x Bubba (or the other way round)....
hey blimey, yeah Mr.G said that the CB would be a good male for the elites because the CB traits could be sorted out and selected for/against during the breeding process. as for the Cherryjuana... we'll see but so far im quite happy with the results and im sure i detect a little more in the aroma of ChJ than in the straight heri even though this is a heri dom. pheno.
ive often wondered about the benefits of using a 'transparent' male for some breeding programs - im sure the CB adds traits but it would be nice if they were subtle but valuable ones like vigor.
the only thing about the bubba which i am unsure about is how easy it is to get seeds from. i'm interested in how many seeds i get from the 2 pollenations this round compared to other plants ive pollenated with the same pollen - but im slightly worried that you dont get many seeds from the bubba and thats why it isnt in so many commercial crosses. certainly there were plenty of pistils about on the buds i dusted so its a case of wait and see.
You might be on to something regarding the Bubba's fertility issues... I recently let some pollen fly on a OG Kush, Purple Urkle, and a Master Bubba. Though its not "The Bubba" per se, the Master Bubba produced the least amount of viable seeds. About 1/3 the amount of seeds as the other two strains. Just my experience...
ED - thanks for stopping by - yes for sure the smoke quality is good under a good LED spectrum. the bubba i grew in here a while back was some of the best ive grown for sure.
Dan, yeah ive been making some enquiries from peeps who breed with the bubba - and its a slightly tricky one apparently. i was advised to dust lower buds that were further from the light and do it around 3-4 weeks i think (i'll double check)

im really pleased with how the Cherryjuana is shaping up. at 5.5 weeks it looks like it will be defo a better yielder than the heri, and there is a definite acerbic fruit tang coming in on the smell. i have a cutting of this plant which i hope to flower in my 'big' cab as a modular scrog next time
like i said - promising the slightly pink pistils is another CB trait!
and the Bubba x DC is looking good - brussels sprouts anyone ?
