Tutorial Ventilation 101

In general, bigger filters have lower restriction & need less fan power & noise to filter the same amount of air. Contact time between the air & filter is also greater due to lower velocity thru the filter resulting in better performance.

Thanks for the reply. I have a 4inch fan connected to a 4in carbon filter should I find a 5inch carbon filter would lessen the noise from the fan? I would match the cfm of the filter to my fan?

Warmest Regards

It's a little more complex. It's not so much about the filter diameter as about the surface area & how many little air channels are available. A long 4" filter could easily be less restrictive than a short 6" filter, for example.

And it's not that fan noise will automatically go down but rather that you can use a fan speed controller to turn down the fan speed to obtain the same airflow & temperature in the enclosure. It doesn't work as hard to overcome restriction. That lets the filter work better to scrub the air, too, because the contact time between the air & the filter is longer for the same airflow.

This may be an older thread but I have found a lot of useful information in her that have helped me select a route for air scrubbing and also maximizing fan power/life span. Thanks for all the help!!

Thanks for taking the time to reply to me, I found it very informative, I was thinking about a fan speed controller to help my lights off temps anyway, so shall try that formyself.

This is a fantastic thread.

Peace

I have a question (didn't read all 81 pages ) i have a light dep going on out side, my black house is 2000 cf, my lights (cpf) come on at 9am, my plants r out of the black house by 930am, there back in the house by 9pm when light go out, my question is about air flow (do i have enough or do i need more? 3 fans in side moving air around, 800 cfm of air coming in n 1200 cfm of air going out, is this OK. (temp r hi of 80 low about 60) thanks

Heating and ventilation setup

Heating and ventilation setup

I just currently set up my rooms and I am having a huge heat problem. I cant bring my temp down below 85 at any given point. I am looking for some suggestions on ventilation to get the Temps down including intake outake.. cooling the goods and what not. I guess what I'm trying to say is . How would you do it. I put a few pictures so you can see what I'm working with. All help is appreciated seeing as I have almost no knowledge of ventilation.

LIGHTING:
(4) 1k watt Hps (light cooled xxl hoods)
(2) 400 watt Hps
(1) 180 watt ufo led
16 bulbs or 4 (4bulb) fixtures.

VORTEX FANS:
(1) 4 inch
(2) 8 inch
(1) 10 inch
(4) oscillating fans

MISC:
(1) BIG Carbon scrubber *5 feet tall
12k BTU dual pipe ac.
(1) Inline filter
(1) Greenhouse controller.

PLUS TONS AND TONS OF MISC CONTROLLERS AND WHAT NOT; BUT I AM NOT LIMITED TOO; IF I NEED TO BUY SOMETHING .

I appreciate all the help :)

I think I can see what u have going on but I still need room height

Room height is 8 ft. And the veg room is 14 feet by 6.5 feet and the flower is 16 feet by 10 feet. Both ceilings are 8 feet and the flower room has 2 windows. The veg has one. The t5s and 400 watt mh are in veg and the 4 hps and 1 led are in flower.

Thanks a bunch

if u cant get your temps down just seal it up and run dehumidifier.. humidifier.. ac.. and CO2..

perfectly controllable environment works better then most ways people do things lol .

East coast- that's a huge investment and power bill. Not exactly what he was asking for. And air exchanged rooms can also be a perfect environment if you set it up right.

Night ridda- before I answer are you willing to make your flower room smaller? That's a lot of wasted space and wasted light. It will also need more ventilation.

May I suggest a 10x10 with your tables all in one corrner on wheeles. Then you get all your lighting overlap making it much easier to hit the 2 pound per light mark.

ya and its a huge power bill either way.. why not perfect the environment to make it super simple to fucking hit big numbers.. a 4000w flower room can produce 12 pounds.. 4 times a year. IF enviornmental factors are met.. and ontop of that. .u have your nutes and grow style down.. especially with the use of a veg room.. lol . iuno i wish i did it the RIGHT WAY the FIRST TIME.. instead of having to figure out what the fuck was wrong over and over again lol.

Right and wrong is highly debatable and not gonna get into it here but I usto swear by sealed. Now I'm running an air exchanged room with no co2 and still hitting the numbers. way way les power and headache. Just read my next few responses and you'll see how I do it that makes it just as effective as sealed

Yes u would be willing to make the flower room smaller.. I'd even split it in half.. put two lights in each room .. what do you think about that ?

O

OG Tree Grower

I think that's wasted light and more fans. Hold tight next response will take me a while
