vaportek/vaportronic scent

Nice, I have been looking at getting one of these for my basement:

http://www.altgarden.com/store/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=260

I have a 3.5 foot x 3.5 foot x 7 foot tall cabinet. My scrubber takes up too much of my headroom and I want to get rid of it. Would that vaportek unit i posted work for elminating all my odor so I could get rid of my scrubber altogether? My basement is about 500 sq feet, tops and my cab is hidden away in a corner and vented with a 6" inline @ ~440 cfm. Would i put the vaportek inside my cab or outside? I have read that you can run them in your flower room with no worries of chemicals etc... Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give, I had about 1" between my tops and my a/c hood last time around and while there wasn't significant heat damage or anything, I could have easily finished the same number of plants but 30-40% bigger if I was able to get my hood up higher.

Hey Nuck...

I'm pretty sure you can find 'em cheaper than that...I think I remember seeing them go for around 130 bucks somewhere.

I haven't used this method for odor control enough to really comment with any authority. You should PM Rezdog here at IC...there is another thread about vaportek products where he tossed in a post or two. He uses them exclusively, even got rid of his scrubbers (if I am remembering correctly...damn cannabis!), and he has a 2000 watt grow goin on.

and if I remember correctly Rez doesn't take PM's.
There's lots of people around here who have had success with the Vaportek/Vaportronic. Apparently there was a batch of units that went out that were defective/insufficient, and most of the posts I've seen of people complaining about their product not working well was because of this very reason.

I'd feel confident that you can use one of these machines to solve your odor problems, but I'd feel more confident if you used a carbon scrubber along with a Vaportronic.
If you make your own scrubber and purchase your carbon in bulk here:
http://stores.ebay.com/Carbon-Eze
then add a little Vaportronic unit outside your grow for ambient scent,
you'll be golden.

Just some thoughts.
Hope it all works out for ya,
JC

I thought I'd provide an update on the Vaportek membranes.

I have one of BOG's Bogglegums about three weeks in flower, and for a supposedly low-odor strain, my Vaportek membranes are barely keeping up with the odor. I have two Classic Neutral membranes going, and I still get some weed odor mixed in with the Vaportek odor. It's working, but I can't say it's working great. Definitely better than nothing, but there's no way these membranes would keep up with a stinky or skunky strain.

I'll look into the discs next, because I believe in the Vaportek oils, but the membranes have a tough time keeping up with one low-odor plant, so I'd hate to see (smell) what would happen with something skunky like the Ogre I picked up a few weeks back.

What do you mean membrane? Are you using the cartridge without the vaportronic 4000 unit?If thats the case I'm not surprised its not working well.I'm sure you all know vaportek and vaportronic 4000 are two diffferent animals.By the way the cheapest for the vaportronic that I've found and I shopped was Colker Janitorial at 99.00.I use it in an 8 by 8 flower room full of blockhead, white widow grapefruit ice and other stinkball strains and I dont need a carbon scrubber to go along with it.Maybe just the membranes are ineffective without the unit, but with the vaportronic 4000 it works like a charm. In the 8 by 8 room next door where I hang and dry my plants,I use the cheaper wall mount vaportek.Again it works great and this room gets absolutely reaky with strains drying and curing.Using a carbon filter with a vaportek isnt a bad idea or even overkill for that matter,no such thing as overkill when it comes to growing lol.I just personally havent found it necessary to use anything else but the vap. units. You not only smell nothing in my front yard, you smell nothing in my living room and this is a small 1000sq ft house!

Glad to hear your odor issues are not a problem :)
I think one of us is confused about model names though.

I believe vaportronic is the name for the smaller unit which uses discs, which an internal mechanism that you can adjust to change the 1 minute on, 30 minute off factory setting.
Optimum 4000 (made by Vaportek....both models are made by this company) is the more expensive unit which uses cartridges. This model uses a front dial that allows you to increase or decrease its output.

WaylonJennings....what's the model # on your unit? From what I've heard you should have no problems covering up the smell of on bogglegum. I've read that a bad batch of units went out a while back, and I'm sure if Vaportek is concerned with reputation and keeping their customers happy, they should offer you an exchange provided you have not made a simple user error.

For ease of reference, here's their #: Toll-free (888) 633-5633

Hope you get that sorted out...I've got some bogglegum growing, and they really start to pack a wallop in the last couple weeks of flowering (but they still are low-odor provided you don't shake 'em up or disturb the flower).
G'luck,
JC

Ah, k, it's just that you said the cheapest you could find the vaportronic was for $99 at Colker Janitorial. You probably meant Vaportek Optimum 4000, ya?

I was under the impression that the Vaportronic was quite a bit cheaper than the Optimum 4000, which I've seen people pay around $150.
These numbers could be way off, which may be why I'm confused.
I'm having a damn hard time locating a dealer in Canada! I've got a list of about 25 companies that apparently carry the Vaportek products, but absolutely none have them up on their website. I'll be damned if I have to pay for all the calls, so I'll probably just e-mail them all and hopefully get a good price from one of them.

Sorry for all the confusion...just trying to clarify things :)

Just hooked up my Vaptronic last night. Set it at about 50% and it works great.

Got the classic neutral discs. All the site had when I ordered.

We don't smell bubblegum/cinnamon or spice, or anything people here have mentioned, as well as not smelling the "eucalyptus and pine oils" the vendor site mentions, but a pretty hardcore licorice smell. Maybe that's the eucalyptus? I don't mind it but since the grow woman cannot stand licorice, we're on the phone today seeing what other flavors are available fore the vaptronic. I see the site has a lot to offer in terms of scents but I wonder what if all are available for all units.

Anyone wanna trade for 11 Classic Neutral discs? :joint:

A-ha! I think I'm starting to understand now. On the last page you said that the cheapest vaportronic unit was from Colker for $99.00. You did mean Optimum 4000 though.
I hope I don't sound like I've got obsessive compulsive disorder here...haha...I just want to know what price people are paying for these things so I know if I find a supplier here in Canada that they will or won't be ripping me off.

Thanks for your review stretchpuppy :) Glad to hear it's covering your odor problems, but in the end, you gotta make the lady happy. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for your vaportronic and where'd you get it from (if you got it from the internet).
This whole hobby of mine (well...of ours), is making me wish I lived in the US just so I could mail-order things without this hassle.

Thanks in advance,
JC

It's more than enough. I think with new discs we'll love it.

I got it from the link Sauce posted:

http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=42585

25 usd for the unit, battery included, and 25 for a bag of 12 classic discs.

I was debating the Optimum 4000 but glad I went this way, as just the vaptronic on it's lowest setting takes care of pretty much my entire 2 bedroom apartment. I have the vaptronic centrally located near the house heating unit so flavors are dispersed throughout the house in a sense.

Beautiful! Thank you Stretchpuppy...I think I'll try e-mailing Johnson Supply and see if they will mail the item to Canada.

No problem jsmooth. Johnson had it here in 3 days.

I e-mailed Vaportek this morning about Samples, like Hal mentioned.

A helpful rep just called be back and helped out greatly. She spoke about the vaptronic and comparisons to the Optimum 4000.

She's sending a free bag of dime sized discs of every sent.

She also mentioned something I think will be valuable to some of you.

The "Classic Neutral" is the only product they offer that actually eradicates the odor. The rest are just fragrance and cover ups, and will not work on neutralizing the original odor.

I'm glad she mentioned that.

I believe there is some science behind the Vaportek theory....you combine one molecule with another, thereby changing it's whole composition and change it's smell.

I think what the tech. rep. might have meant was that the classic neutral discs/cartridges utilize this technology, while the others do not (just mask the smell, using one to overpower the other?).

I guess this is all hearsay at the moment, but I'm curious nonetheless. I think I'll still go with the classic neutral discs, but the forest has been tickling my fancy as well.
