Under Ground Grow Room

G

Guest

I have been tinkering around with the idea of a under ground grow for awhile. I have begun digging, the room will be 8' x 10', with a tunnel that leads into it from an area better suited to me entering, an area out of sight of neighbors just in case. I know about bracing the structure but I am unsure of the material to use for the walls. I was thinking about cinder block but that would be fairly expensive, any ideas for the wall/roof material, the floor will be concrete. Thanks

Think about drainage and walls seeping water as well as cave ins! Cheech and chong used a swimming pool once maybe you can try that! With a cover you can get Sunshine and total camo!! just a thought! lol

I will have plenty of braces to keep it from caving in. I will be basically digging a large hole putting in the floor, the walls, bracing, the roof, and then backfilling to cover it up. It will be under a wooden deck eventually.

I don't know your soil, area, or rural/urban, but here is an Idea that works very well and inexpensive.
Go to large salvage yard, and buy a piece of old fuel storage tank. Every large yard has them, as erery time a gas station closes or other business that has large fuel storage closes the tanks have to be removed and cannot be reused for fuel storage any more.
You can get them in diameters of 8',10',12', & 15'.
They are made of 5/8" thick steel, and because of cylinderical shape they won't cave in and the 'end' which would now be your roof can support a couple of feet of dirt.
They work great, my company has used them dozens of times, for 'water well' pits, tornado/storm shelters. 'sump pump' pits, and one grow room that I know of..wink :chin: wink......

By law, they have to either cut the tank in half, or cut one whole end off.
A 12' diameter tank would give you about 112 sq. ft., and you can have the height any size you want, 6',8',10', or more.

For $50-$75 more you can usual get them ( savage yard crew ) to cut it into quarters, so you can haul them your self in a pickup truck. A 'rope and tackle pulley', and a large tree ( or a homemade tri-pod frame ) and you can place it in ground by yourself and weld back together.

A grip of pps in NorCal will bury storage containers like the ones truckers use , u can find 'em fairly cheap as well . hope this helps , as this way seems like the safest way of doin things

A 8'W x 10'L x 10'H cinder block wall would take roughly 405 blocks, ( in my area, cinder blocks run about $3.00 a pc. , delivered, with orders of 180 or more ) plus morter, and time.
I could get a 10' diameter x 10' long ( or height as it will be standing on end ) tank for $250.00 , plus $175.00 delivered whole, or $75.00 for them to cut and I haul myself. ( if you don't have access to a welder, they can be rented for a week for about $100.00, and you can teach yourself how to weld that much in a week. It doesn't have to be perfect.

10' diameter has 78.5 sq. ft. , so that is close to the 80 sq.ft. with the cinder block wall.

Thanks Slacker, but unfortunately I live in an urban area and alot of questions would be asked if I buried a big storage tank. I was thinking of using sheet metal, used for roofing, for the walls and roof. Anybody remember the Cannabis Cave from OG? My plan is similar, but a scaled down version. I will use it for my 400 watter, which is currently in a walk in closet, and eventually I will increase my wattage and run some buckets.

I can weld, my dad taught me when I was 12. So I will keep that in mind for the future.

When they remove the tanks, they empty them, spray with water and a bio-degreaser detergent, empty, and then fill with 'co2', then they pull the tanks and cut in half or cut-off end before they can even move them, so they are safe to cut/weld on after that.

Any ways, like I said, it depends on your situation, and how many people you will need to help, or will know/see what your doing.
If you can bring in a Backhoe and a large roll-off truck, then the shipping containers work great to.

I am a building contractor and I can tell you this is a VERY ambitious project

You can cut the pieces so they dont look like a tank, it is just that the cylindrical nature of the tank gives you the side strength that eliminates the use of any brasing. And the fact that the used tank will be alot cheaper then
flat sheat metal of any size to give you strength. anyway, just some ideas.

It can be a very ambitious project, but a determined stoner could send a couple hours aday toilling away at it thinking about the "bonansa of green Bud" ahead. :canabis: :canabis: :canabis: :canabis: :canabis: :biglaugh:

It is a fantasy, and hopefully I can do it, but I understand it is very ambitious and will cost quite a bit of money.

If you live in an urban area and have a basement, use can use only half of the the tank and place against wall and tell neihbors it is a sump pit for water drainage.

sorry, I'm just 'stoned' and full of Ideas tonight.

What , yer gonna go through all that trouble of building under ground fer a fuckin 400 wt.

There are actually quite a few people that have done underground grows over at og.Some are huge and some are more modest. All pretty impressive.
I know an older guy that did it in Fla years ago but never had any good crops because of problems with dampening off.And that was still after he spent big money on intakes and exhaust.Too many humid days of the year there maybe. He dug a whole and dropped a larg storage container in the ground and covered it back up.
Now thinking back on it he may have been more succesfull if he could have spent big money on dehumidifiers and somehow rigged up an underground a/c unit.Gets very expensive though.
I think if you live up North where it stays cold most the year you may have a better chance of succeeding.Just my opinion though.Obviously have no personal experience w/ underground grows.
It may be cheaper to build a greenhouse if possible or even a small barn type building.

I think it could be done underground though but you would have to be able to drop some serious cash :)

I will increase my wattage shortly after the room is finished. So it wont be just for a 400 watter.
