ULTIMATE SOIL MIX...(?)

This would be a good place to post your opinion as to what comprises the
"Ultimate Soil Mix" for the cultivatoin of cannabis.
Simplicity is preferable, but is not required.
Simplicity equals easily and readily duplicatable by others, imho.

Pro-Mix has a new line of soils out that look quite promising.

This one looks interesting.

I'd like to see something marketed similar but perhaps with a Coco Peat base instead of Peat Moss.
Cocos rewetting qualities are so vastly superior in my eyes.

I am mostly organic, my dirt mix for bloom is as follows:
5 gallons: Sta-Green All purpose potting mix (as it contains the basics - composted forest products, peat moss, perlite, wetting agent, water-holding polymers, small amount of inorganic ferts)
1 gallon: Worm Castings
1 gallon: Mushroom Compost
1 gallon: Vermiculite
1 gallon: Composted Cow Manure
4 gallons: Perlite
1 gallon: Coco Fiber

1 tbls per gallon of the following ammendments:
Greensand
Gypsum
Lime
Epsom Salts
High P Bat Guano
Bonemeal

I also add 6 tbls Bloodmeal, 2 tbls Triple Super Phosphate, 4 tbls Water Holding Polymers, 8 tbls Rock Phosphate, 8 tlbs Kelp Meal, 8 tbls Compost Activator and I sprinkle each new planting hole with mychorrizae. I add other stuff I cant remember right now. With the additional bacteria and fungus I have found that I do not need to let my mix "settle", instead I can use it right away. And of course the ingredients will vary with availability.

Honestly... even though I use a ton of crap and make a super rich soil, the best results I've ever had, what I've been trying to duplicate myself is simply Fox Farm Ocean Forest, with one tablespoon per gallon Fox Farm Fruit and Flower dry formula along with 10-20% perlite added.

No less, no more. Only water, no liquid ferts needed.

The best yields, the best taste, the best results ever.

But it's so expensive anymore...

I've had some good experiments with this "agroponic" medium:

Fox Farm's Light Warrior is an agroponic growing medium with a kick. Incorporating mycorrhizae fungi and other biological catalysts, Light Warrior is designed to enhance root development and encourage greater nutrient uptake. An organic blend of perlite and peat moss, it's suitable for both soil and hydroponic gardening.

This Agroponic growing medium is formulated for growing plants in containers and in hydroponic systems. This Organic blend is specially designed to enhance root development and encourage greater nutrient uptake by the plants. Light Warrior is an excellent medium for starting seeds, transplanting, and cultivating a wide range of plants both indoors and outdoors. Light Warrior simulates a natural forest soil bed.

I've used light warrior before, but only in mixing with OF for the fungal content, never stand alone as it is mostly peat. I hear good things in the soilless arena though.

Thats another great Idea, using that type of fungal cultured product and innoculating the "big Batch" with it.

Power Flower is made on McLellan Mountian Ranch in Bridgeville, CA. It contains 2 kinds of peat, perlite, bone meal, bat guano, seabird guano, kelp, rock phosphate and various other nutrients. Add some plant success and some extra perlite and you're off to tha races!

It's $8.50 per 1.5cu/ft at the hardware store or ya can go right to tha ranch and pick up a cubic yard fer a lot less if ya want.

1 in Sta-Green All Purpose Potting Mix

1 in Sta-Green All Purpose Potting Mix with one tablespoon per gallon added FoxFarm Fruit and Flower Formula dry fertilizer

1 in my normal mix (listed above)

For control purposes, I will give each the extra strength transplant solution I always use and only give water until the very end of the grow.

I will post pics and dry weight at the end.

Strainwhore, I have to agree about Fox Farm Ocean Forest soil. My best ever soil grow was Jack Herer in ocean forest soil, it yielded about 1/2 lb under a 400w HPS. I haven't been able to duplicate in soil how good and healthy those plants looked.

I want to find a good organically ammended coco based potting mix as I believe it is superior in many ways to peat, especially with PH.

Update:



Although my camera blows, all 3 in this pic are Lemon Pheno Lifesaver clones. They were vegged for 2 weeks in 32 oz cups consisting of Sta-Green potting mix with 1 tblsp per gallon Marine Cuisine dry fertilizer.

The one on the right was potted in Sta-Green with no ammendments. The one in the middle was potted in Sta-Green with 1 tblsp per gallon Fox Farm Fruit and Flower Formulae which has all kinds of good crap in it. The one on the left was planted in my normal mix. Each was given a strong transplant solution consisting of Earth Juice Grow and Bloom, Gel Mychorrizae, Hormex, bacillus bacteria, FF Big Bloom, FF Tiger Bloom, EJ MicroBlast, EJ Meta-K and Liquid Karma.

They have only been given plain unadjusted tap water till yesterday when I gave the one on in plain potting soil an additional shot of transplant solution as it was quite yellow.

The one in the middle is a little yellow, but not nearly as much as the one in plain potting soil. The one in my normal mix looks good, but a little burnt, like maybe I need to cut back on the Tiger Bloom at transplant.

All in all they look pretty close to the same except for their coloring: same pistil development, bud development etc.

I will post a follow up when they are down and dry, this should be in the second week of January.

Here is the pic (sorry for the crappy camera) of them dry:



The one on the left was in regular mix, middle in Sta-Green plus 1 tablespoon per gallon Fox Farm Fruit and Flower formula, on the right in just plain Sta-Green.

The one in plain Sta-Green weighed 7grams dry. The one in Sta-Green w/ FFF&F weighed 11grams dry. The one in my regular mix weighed 13grams dry and is the most beautiful in person.

Heres a crappy pic of the whole crop:



Some were as heavy as 3/4oz. None were as light as the one in plain potting soil.

It seems to make a big difference adding compost and soil ammendments, but maybe I use too much... Will continue testing.

Being both Horticulturist and Agriculturist, I have heard of both the Pro Mix and the flower power, myself I make my own througth out the year with the organics I can find and potting soil. This last year home made mix created a Indica that grew nearly 5 feet and put over a pound of good quality buds.

I too, use Light Warrior and Oceans Forest.
I do a 5/4 mix... Mixing 5 Oceans Forest to 4 Light Warrior.... Its worked and working great in my opinion. Also removes tons of guess work out of Soil Mixes.

IMHO - this mix almost makes it impossible to overwater as well.
