UK Schools drop Holocaust lessons to avoid offence

This is a staggeringly unbelievable move, and is not justifiable or defendable for any reason.

The UK government should be more than ashamed....to stop teaching about the intentional destruction of European Jewry, the Gypsies, Slavs, Serbs and others by the Nazis, Ustachi and other Fascists is tantamount to spitting on the mass graves of the slaughtered.

Teachers are dropping controversial subjects such as the Holocaust and the Crusades from history lessons because they do not want to cause offence to children from certain races or religions, a report claims.

A lack of factual knowledge among some teachers, particularly in primary schools, is also leading to “shallow” lessons on emotive and difficult subjects, according to the study by the Historical Association.

The report, produced with funding from the Department for Education, said that where teachers and staff avoided emotive and controversial history, their motives were generally well intentioned.

“Staff may wish to avoid causing offence or appearing insensitive to individuals or groups in their classes. In particular settings, teachers of history are unwilling to challenge highly contentious or charged versions of history in which pupils are steeped at home, in their community or in a place of worship,” it concluded.

However, it was concerned that this could lead to divisions within school, and that it might also put pupils off history.

Goes to show that appeasement, hate, intolerance and racism appear to be more important than teaching our children truth and history, at least for some.
And let's not forget what resulted from the last time the UK went thru a phase of appeasment........


My disgust and revulsion at the apathetic excuses given in the above article to justify this travesty of 'education' know no bounds........these 'teachers' should have their teaching diplomas revoked and they should go clean stables somewhere.....since shoveling shit is the only thing seem to be good at.

The fact that they would actually do this is mind boggling. I mean, to think about not teaching it, I expect that crap, but damn this is dumb. I always hated having to rely on someone else to teach me, especially since my teachers mostly seemed to be dumb asses, mostly. My grandparents taught me more things than any school did.
I am plenty able to learn on my own if this is the way school systems are gonna distribute knowledge.

But in all seriousness, this doesn't seem right to me either. "Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it." It's a part of history. You can't just erase history.

You don't mind people forgetting about the largest genocidal effort in history, but the minute a movie portrays Persia as a mildly different color tone you're up in arms. The holocaust in ww2 wasn't the first time in history when the Jews and other minorities were killed or mass genocide against another group of people was commited.

i did mention it...and the british didn't bother building death camps, they just starved the irish to death on their own land by forcing them to hand over all their produce and livestock for consumption in britain...so i guess u could say they just turned the entire island into a labor/death camp for the majority of non-landowning irish people...also maybe you should look into the thousands of irish men interred by the british during the 60s and 70s much the way many are being housed at gitmo today...

The point of history is to learn from our mistakes so we don't repeat them. I mean come on there's no way we're gonna repeat all that roman shit and stuff. But if you look at how germany slowly became a nazi state it seems possible that it could be repeated.

This has been discussed to death on other boards, turns out it was a few individual teachers and no more, not like a nationwide curriculum change or anything.

History taught in the UK at school puts a lot of focus on the wars, for obvious reasons, and its practically impossible not to teach about the Holocaust.
