Has anyone in the Uk tried these new(ish) ceramic metal halide (CMH) bulbs that our cousins in the States seem keen on at the moment? has anyone seen any higher wattage CMH rigs for sale in a grow shop here? I'd be interested to hear your thoughts...
ps. Sammet - awesome male. Hope you are grabbing some pollen from that one for breeding. I understand Rez uses William's Wonder for his monster Gonzo strains..

There's been a few tabloid stories about seeds recently could be something the gov is working up to but it seems unworkable as there's no way to tell hemp seeds from drug varieties.

Finally I can set my growroom up once more! Just started germinating seeds now. I'll be growing AK47, William's Wonder BX1, Godberry, C99 x Cali O, Choc Junkie and NYCD x Biko. Looking for a few good ladies to take cuts from as I want to try my hand at keeping some mothers.
Not much to show so far but I'll have some photos for you in a few weeks

Hey lovelightpower,never smoked the biddy's sister,hopefully will be tasty as i have only got two or 3 fems.Got a deep earthy smell at the mo no side branches just a straightup cola.Got nice spikey leaves makes a change from indica leaves,very hypnotic to look at from the top as i think all sativas are.The slyder i have is very sparce and smells like beef or something along those lines,very strange smell,but i like the sativa'ish leaf pattern.some may say that there pure indica leaves bt compared to my hashberry they are alot thinner.Have you smoked biddy's sister dude?...peace

I grew Biddy's sister recently, stank of cat piss (real cat piss) in flower with a slightly skunky edge. It made some choco minty hash, buds had a sweet creaminess to them. Quite a heavey body stone, nothing to write home about but I'm not an indica man really. The pheno I had was at the end of it's 13th week though before I had to tear my growroom down for piggy reasons, no idea how that happened as it's parents don't go that long but it wasn't even finished at the time.
Here's mine at 10 weeks defoliated by leaf spot fungus which she's quite susceptible to
nice yielder, turns purple too, almost black, if that's your bag.

Germinating seeds is a pain but I am an advocate for developing your own stock from which to take a mother and clones. Importing clones in to your rig runs risks of bringing in pests, fungi and diseases. And though they have lots of advantages, clones dont tend to be as vigourous as seed stock.
I am not a fan of the wet paper towel method, No sir, not at all. It's very easy to muck it up, either by getting the tissues too wet and smothering the seeds, or not consistently damp enough for germination, or that you damage the tap root when transplanting.
Here's an alternative:
Make up a solution of water - pH adjusted down to pH6.0, hydrogen peroxide (you can buy a small bottle at the chemists for a few quid) diluted to ...oh crap, I forget, about 1% - I will confirm this for you soon - and some rhizotonic (or similar). The hydrogen peroxide will kill off any unhelpful fungi that may interfere with germination
Drop your seeds into this solution and leave them somewhere dark for 12-18hours. I'd err on the side of caution and go for 12 hours.
At the same time you are soaking your seeds, soak some 1" rockwool cubes (or similar, there are organic alternatives) in a water+rhizotonic solution (follow the recommended dosage for seedlings) - at pH6
When you have soaked the seeds for 12 hours, take them out of the water CAREFULLY and pop them in to the 1" cubes. Some seeds may already have started to split by the time you do this so handle them very carefully
Put the seeds-in-cubes in a warm place and put them under a suitable lamp as soon as leaves appear. Make sure you keep them moist - but not soaking.
After years of struggling with other methods, I have got great results from following this method, which I got from 'Big Book of Buds 2'.
Other tips:
1" cubes can be a pain. They are more stable and easier to manage if you turn them upside down (i.e. fat side down) and poke your own hole in the (now) top, to put the seed/clone in.
Buy good seeds from somewhere reputable. Gypsy nirvana have a good reputation. You should be able to pick up something inexpensively if you avoid Sensi or Greenhouse (though they do good seeds so maybe consider investing) ; I see someone else has tipped Paradise seeds, which I will second ; they do a good feminized range.
Wash your hands well before handling seeds, so you can be sure you aren't passing anything unhelpful on to them (like fungi - no I am not kidding, nor am I trying to say you have dirty hands, this is just basic grow room hygeine)
