There shouldn't be any reason to go into your closet. Throw a blanket over it. You'll be fine. They're not going to ask you about whats in your closet.

Is there any smoke/carbon alarms in your closet? Any access to pipes, any outlets or anything else in there?

I just looked at your pics of your cab. Take that carbon scubber off and throw a blanket over everything. Even if there is a sprinker in there they wont be in there very long. If you can take everything out of plain sight you'll be fine bro.

there is a fire sprinkler, and a "telephone network interface" that's what it says on the outside of the box, everything is going to be definately disconnected, scrubber, lights, plants, everything boxed up, and if they want to see what's in the cab, I'll add a shelf and put lotsa vinyl records inside. I have a ton of clothes that I still haven't hung and that I usually just throw in the bedroom after they have been washed and put all this stuff in the closet

They probably wont ask you about somthing that looks like a cabinet or speaker box. They do have a job to do so just dont make it look like a science experment in the closet.
They arent nosy like that but they are probably city officials and like to keep the city "clean"and will report somthing that looks suspicious.
Hey, If you want to be real stealth in the future get some 12 or 15 inch speakers and take the front off and attatch them to the box. Then it just looks like a homemade speaker. Air wents arent uncommon for larger speakers either.

hopefully somebody will tell me I overdid it, but better safe than sorry

here's a pic of the cab, I left it open so it wouldn't seem suspicious, and wrote a buncha stuff with a marker on the inside of the door, but it's not in the pic.
Then I put bags of soil and all that stuff in trashbags in storage area, mylar, and carbon scrubber in garage, and I put seedlings in this box shown below with a flourescent and put it in a closet with some clothes infront of it. hopefully it'll be ok.

i'm just wondering if they're going to wonder, why I don't just use shelves to put records on, i'll tell them they're collectiables and am going to put a lock on it

I work in the apartment industruy. I have never heard of anything like this, w/ the eception of "bank inspections" and those do not require all tenants to give acess only 10% chosen at random and they do not look closley at anything, only the genral condtion; so they know their investment is not being ruined, or what it's value is to borrow against etc. Landlords have no right to touch anything that is not theirs. I would move everything out of a closet and cover it some how, any how, and you will be fine. As the landlord i would not think twice about you unless you started asking weird questions i.e. will you check my closet?!? Make it look like personal belongings and your fine and read your lease!

so you're saying according to the pics. the way I have the door open so they can see there is nothing illegal, is wrong? should I close it and just cover it up?

everything is moved out of the closet, and in boxes in a storage closet, except for the cab since I can't get it out of the closet but I changed it into a vinyl holder cabinet, only questions I asked office personnel was what they would be doing, and asked if they were going to go in my bedroom since I have personal items, but I didn't mention closet, only bedroom, told them I had personal belongings, so I just said, ok I'll move those items out of the way. I also mentioned that I have expensive computer/music equipment around and if I have anything to worry about.

Oh yea that just looks like a storage cabinet/box. Looks pretty normal to me, As long as the seedlings are safe. I mean you could probably just put them in your sock draw if there that little.

according to their paper they sent, it's a yearly thing, this is exactly what it says:

"Dear Residents:

It's that time of year again, for performing our annual inspection of your apartment.
We will start this process on Feb. 15th and end on Feb. 17th. We do not anticipate being your apartment very long. And please remember to have your privacy lock disengaged so that we my gain access."

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions

Thank you"

I didn't make any typos's that's exactly how the letter is

i put them in a small box, and have a flourescent light on them, late night i'll water them, this bank thing might be correct, i've been looking around for mainenteance people and can't see anybody around nobody has showed up as of today and the office is closed today, so I think they only work during office hours, but you never know

I have the same problem with my land lord, if you read the lease you will find that they may enter if your not their but you have the right to be there for the inspection. They usually spend about 5-10 minutes if they even come by. They just take a quick look around to make sure their is no major damage and there gone. All I do is shut every thing off while their there and turn it back on once they leave, one year I had 6 plants in there 6 week of flower thank god for smelly candles to mask the sent.

When I was in an apt. I got "inspection notices" about once a year... I never grew except one crop, and they never once showed up for any inspections to my place. I haven't read this whole thread, but if you have them in your own cabinet, they have no right to inspect it...

I understand they don't have a right to inspect my cab, but if it looks suspicious they can report it, can't they? especially since it's in a closet.

What I did was last night, the office closes at 6 or 7pm so I waited a few hours later, and took plants out of the box and put the light back in the closet and then early morning, put everything back.

do you think this is helping the plants? or does it make a difference if they're just in the dark for a couple more days?

i go thru this once a year, and lately more often as the place is up for sale. law says 24 hrs. notice for entrance to my crib. they usually tell me what time they are comming so i am ready....can tear down in 15 minuites and takes two hours to get it all back up and running again. i remember the first time i moved all my plants, flowering ones and all to a friends house....welll that got old quick plus it damaged the hairs keeping the plants inside plastic bags for 2+ hours...so now when i know they are comming i put sticks in the pots cover with a sheet and pile boxes in front of them. and light inscense...problem i see with you is they gave you a two day window that they can come in...maybe find out when is your time...or keep an eye on there progress and try and guess how long it will be before they get to yours. my guess is they can go into closets ect...so best to box it all up cause they cant go diggin thru your belongings. hope this helps...i been there ...just this monday was the latest.

Sorry i didn't read the entire thread prior to posting, you are fine. And the owners name is on the morgtage for the property, but the tenants in on the lease, a document which provideds tenants w/ rights in echnage for their monthly rent payments, one of these is a right to privacy.......
