Many moons ago, I lived in an apartment complex that was for sale and the individual units were being inspected by potential buyers...
I was into breeding Bearded Dragon lizards and various large pythons at the time.
I had a "special" closet that was locked. I explained that a very expensive breeding pair of 4 meter long pythons lived in there and couldn't be disturbed, it being "breeding season" and all...believe me, nobody presses you to open the "Giant snake" door. Worked for me. They probably have a no giant snake in the closet clause in that lease somewhere though ;) :)
..........................
Immediate Rekeying of locks is highly recommended in rental property grows as a standard operating procedure.
Use internal keyed doorlocks also, lock those bedrooms, what the hell.
Also bite the bullet and buy those more expensive 8 pin locks, the cheapo, run of the mill walmart special 5 pin jobs are a joke lock picking wise, incredibly easy with a little practice and the right tools (available to anybody on ebay...)
The lock looks the same after rekeying until they try their key and it just does't work and they a come a whining to ya.Those darn key cutter guys, I'll tell ya, can't even cut a key right. ;)
Give them a new copy at that point and then just rekey that sucka again soon as they leave...

IMB :)

FYI landlord can legally access your apt. when your not home, for "business" reasons.
Tis may be a state by state thing but in my state legally your not allowed to have keyed locks on internal doors, and if the landlord is in your apt for "business" and notices your keyed bedroom or closet he can remove the locks. This is also somthing fire inspectors notice and can cost the landlord in fines.

I would move them to the garage in boxes. Then theres nothing to worry about. A couple days in the dark wont hurt the plants

Says you TGB. I never heard FIRE inspection just inspection. Maby the landlord wants to check for damage in the apt so he does a yearly inspection. I wouldnt risk it. Is your life worth risking because TGB says they wont go in the closet. But hey the more dumbasses busted the safer I feel, so go ahead make it easy for them.

If I was looking to buy the building I would INSPECT every inch of every apt. So how do you know its not like that. Im serious about the keyed inside locks also, They might just ask you to change them before you leave or they might just remove them and probably take a peek at whats so important in the closet.
I also belive that if you refuse to allow a state inspector complete access wherever he wants he can call the police for help.
DONT BE AN IDIOT

I cant belive all the people telling this guy to take this risk. I am really shocked.
I.M. Boggled said they asked to see the closet but he got lucky that they didnt insist, But thats proof right there that they had an intrest in the closet and could possibly insist on looking in it.
Ive seen these kind of apt grow inspection posts but have never seen people tell him to leave them.
How many times do you think the words might, maby, shouldent are in this thread.
Im really thrown back by the advice abc has recived.

hell no i'm not going to be a dumbass, this is my plan, I'm even thinking of not going to work today.

- I'm going to change the locks on the closets back the way it was
- I'm going to see if I can rent a storage area close by, and put everything there, they probably even have a light switch that I can leave on with holes in the box for seedlings.
- lastly I know this is probably too much, but a cab sitting in a spacious closet would be suspicious to me, so I'm going to cover it with black plastic, so the vents and holes are covered remove the lock, go and by some small plywood from Lowes, and build a shelf in there, and put my vinyl in there to make it look like a vinyl storage, since i have lotsa vinyl and it's all laying around and have wanted one of those shelves.

only problem I can think of is that it might look suspicious as to why my vinyl is in my closet and turntables outside, if I can I'll try to move the cab behind the turntables, but it won't fit through the door way, and if they ask then I'll explain to them how vinyl isn't as easily replaceable as the equipment and I've had my equipment and vinyl stolen in the past. Only deal is that they wont ask if they find anything suspicious since they'll know you'll stop doing what you're doing and just call the police instead.

so what do you think, I should be ok if I do all this stuff when the inspection happens?

i've been thinking and actually I can just hide the seedlings in a box if they survive, they survive, but atleast they'll be in a climate controlled area and I can still water them, the rest of the equipment I can box them up and put them in a different closet, storage area, or in my garage, but I don't want anybody to notice that now all of a sudden there is a maintenance thing going on that i'm moving stuff in and out of the building, since they do have 24hr. maintenance around, what I have to worry about is disquising the cab

i don't know if it was in this thread or not, but somebody mentioned that it's mainteance not a search, but I gotta box everything up just so they don't see anything suspicious

Well Im not talking out my ass since I used to be a building manager. The yearly inspection is to test the carbon, smoke alarms. You'll also here the building fire alarm going off all day too. They don't look for anything else. They do how ever report grow ops if they come across one (of course) :chin: Thats how alot of apt grow opts get busted.

Yep I would box up everything to for the 5 minutes they'll be in your crib though to be on the safe side.

what do you think is the best way to disquise a cab in my closet? by making it a cab to hold vinyl?

Well abc, Im glad your going to do somthing other than HOPE there not going to go in yor closet.
TGB, I am as well in the business and there are also other kind of inspections. Yes the fire inspector may just make sure the smoke and Co2 detectors work But a LOT of landlords do yearly DAMAGE inspections, and if his do they might plan it on the same day because the landlord has to let the fire inspector in the apts anyway.
There are also the C of O inspections which are usually every 5 years and can sometimes mean the inspector returns every 30 days untill all requirements are met if the building has failed. The C of O inspections include everything from lights out to chipped paint to loose doorknobs. They go EVERYWHERE.
So how do we know its not that inspection?
Be safe
Sorry for saying be a dumbass and all that.

If your cab size is not to big maby just lay it down and put a nice sheet over it and make it a coffe table or somthing.

that's a good idea, would cost less to build another shelf, but the problem is that it won't fit through the door-way, if i have black plastic over the cab could that be a problem? I want to hide places that I have to remove weatherstripping which still sticks, and the area with the vent.

I did speak to them about being there when they do the mainentenance since I have expensive computer/music equipment here, and they said they can't do that since they dont' know how much time each inspection is going to take, but she did say that they were only their maintenance people. so they aren't getting any 3rd parties involved, (as far as I know).

If this could mean jail time, then ditch the fucking plants. Ganja plants aren't worth going to jail over because of some dumb inspection, especially if you ain't making $$$ or they aren't 5 weeks into flower...

I suggest planning your grows around inspections, as they are usually the same time every year, or simply volunteering to be inspected between grows.

About your cab: who cares!? If you don't have plants in it, it doesn't matter, they can't arrest you for a cabinet?

i can hide the seedlings, they're only a couple weeks old, or take them to another house, storage, etc.. but the problem is disguising the cab.

unless you think I should just disassemble the whole cab
