u.s. people - annual apt. inspections?

I didn't know they did this is my first apartment I got a notice today, that from the 15-17 they're going to do inspections of apartments, andybody know anything about this? will they go in my closet or bedroom? if I ask them will it sound suspicious?

well i recommend you possibly wip shit and box shit up... hold cuts in stasis or if its a small plant keep it like that in a box in the closet..etc. etc....

yeah, that's what I'm going to do, I have a garage and can put stuff in there, but I guess boxing things up would be enough, there are 2 seedlings just a couple weeks old, so I can put them in a box?

what about the cab, it's a 2x2x4, and has a vent wouldn't that look suspicious? if it didn't have the vent I could say I'm building a wardrobe closet, although I have a spacious closet so that would seem weird.

I can get rid of everything else, just not sure what to do about the cab, and don't want to lose the seedlings, and they can be here any day or time from the 15th-17th, so if seedlings are in the dark for that many days they're going to die, and I'm using fem. seeds, and it took me months just to get them, since the first time they didn't arrive, damn!!!

is there anyway to keep the seedlings alive? if not, I'll just start removing everything now instead of waiting until the 14th, maybe I can find a place outside to hide them so atleast they can get sunlight?

probably, but I didn't read it, I just figured they would only show up if you needed something repaired, I'll know next time to make sure and read leases

What will your schedule be during the inspection days???? You might be able to figure something out if you knew that.....Go to the "legal" forums and ask the question as to the legal aspects of the inspection....LC

they aren't going to search through all your personal belongings, just hide things from sight. Throw a shirt over the vent on your cab. They won't even look in your closet I bet.

just be glad you aren't 5 weeks into flower.

well the problem is that since it's a preventive maintenance type deal, I have a fire sprinkler in my closet, won't they want to check to see if it works?

@LC my schedule varies during inspection days, but it can't be avoided, they mention on the paper to keep your "privacy lock" unlocked, meaning even if you're home they aren't going to knock or anything, they'll just walk in

do you think if I call them and ask them if they'll check my closet, would it be suspicious? if I tell them it's expensive computer/music equipment that I want to keep out of sight

I would think that would raise suspictions....What you could do is to call them up and ask if they could inspect while you're at home....If they ask why, just say you don't trust anyone being in your apartment without your presence....Did you post in the legal forums and ask what legal rights you have in a situation like that....LC

Call them and tell them that you had a negative experience with a inspection at one of your previous residences (theft, something broken, whatever) and that you wish to know when it is so that you can be home. AFAIK they have to do it while you are there if you request it.

yeah, i posted in that forum, but i think somebody said since there is a fire sprinkler in the closet they'll probably go in there, i have an outside storage on my balcony, I could put my cab in there and cover everything with black plastic to cover everything, and they might go in there too since there is a light, I can say it's an old wardrobe closet and had to remove it from my storage, or am working on making a speaker box, but the problem is that even though they agree or whatever they don't have to say anything since they probably know they can't do anything, but they can still report suspiciouns to the police.

Before I signed the lease I told them I've had bad experiences with maintenance people, but I should've had it on paper, but it really doesn't make a difference if I'm here or not, since I can't stop them from going into my closet, that would raise even more suspiciouns. Most likely I'll probably be here.

I can cover the whole cab with some black plastic, and I have 2 - 3.5 (ft.) speaker system, on crates it's above 4 (ft) and put that infront of the cab and make it look like the cab is a sub-bass system, and throw clothes everywhere just so it's hard enough to barely get into the closet, what do you think would that work?

if there aren't any plants they can't say much about a cab, but that's what i'm mostly worried about is the seedlings, what if I make a box for the seedlings with holes and put them in my car and park the car outside

also I installed my own door knob on the closet so it can lock from the outside, will I have to change it back to the old door knob? do you have to have permission to change things like that?

wow yer paraniod... i had 2 mantience people in my rented basement for 3 hours not more than 7 ft from 1 2' plant 3 weeks into flower... i just turned the (big) light off (kept a 15w cfl to keep the plant "awake") and covered it with a drop cloth. Then 3 cigarettes later you couldn't even notice the smell (though i did let the basement air out a little)

are they going to go in your closet? so you're saying just turn off the fan hide the fan/carbon scrubber and hide lights and just leave the plants in the cab and surround it with stuff?
