It's like smelling a candied berry syrup through a musty gym sock. Delicious! The nugs are incredibly dense.

I can't say too much about the effect as I've only tried it once. But reports from the more intrepid testers mention that the effect is quite strong, but always maintains a pleasant glow.

Quick peek inside the mothership, where no expense has been spared. The plants are currently basking in luxurious photons generated by 2 x 20W LED strips ziptied to a cookie cooling rack.

Left: LOLAB/ACDCxMountain Mango #1
Middle: Cali Kush #5
Right: LOLAB/ACDCxMountain Mango #2

The structure on the Cali Kush is tight as usual. LOLAB crosses are looking pretty weedy. #1 stem rub is earthy ACDC. #2 smells pretty dank. Time to take a few clones.

Haha, nice one tyrone!
Whats up with lolab, what did i miss??
Hey Buddy! How've you been?

@Breadwizard is one of the reasons I've fallen for the LOLAB. It's a true landrace from Kashmir that stays small, matures quickly, has a lemony scent, and mild potency. You may enjoy his original thread. He's done an awesome job documenting some OPs, general selections, and some F1 outcrosses that all look interesting.

I grabbed a pack of LOLAB from Irrazin for a rainy day when I am ready to dedicate a bed to this variety. But for now I figured it would be interesting to explore a hybrid before diving in.

I really should update that thread, there's been a whole season since, with more selection

Does your friend have an account here? Tell them to keep the dream alive here!

Hey BW! I am sure it would be helpful for some folks here. Even if someone doesn't care about the genetics, it's eye-opening to see the methods you have been executing on. I would want to have a bed of LOLAB for the same reason I'd want to have an ant farm or a fish tank

Great job @Breadwizard ! I love myself some mild herb, they look really nice and unique! I'll see if i can score some just for collectings sake.

looking forward to see how it goes for you @TyroneShoelace ! good luck and have fun!
Thanks Jaques! I will do my best to keep them alive. I hope I see you growing a bed of LOLAB someday soon!

The bonsai hemp field was certainly fun, even if it got a touch overgrown, I'm hoping further sifting and selection in subsequent years will even further shape them to these ends. I wasn't planning on reseeding the field this year, just seeing what comes up. If nothing does in the next month (I bet some will, so many seeds were dropped, and spring has sprung here, all the magnolias and stone fruit trees are flowering), then I'll probably toss some seeds in. Right now there's a cover crop of lettuce and cilantro in the spot after being reammeded with compost and some mulch.

It's great to hear that you plan to continue the project! Do you have a vision of what an improved LOLAB would look like, or are you playing it by ear nose/lung?

Cali Kush #5 Jr's roots just hooked in and she's now picking up steam under the watchful eye of Cali Kush #5 Sr. If all goes according to plan, Jr will grow naturally while Sr is being heavily trained.

I'm thinking of gently guiding it to usefulness, keeping the line pretty diverse in general. I think a fully dwarfed line with a good mini Christmas tree structure is ideal, possibly to use as one half of a root stock variety (these should definitely be true F1s for the added hybrid vigor)

That sounds great! I will definitely be following along if you share it!

Just checking back in showing signs of life. I've been hunting through type 3 and 4's mostly, but for the past 6ish months they've been sharing space with some haze plants.

This is called Ceasefire. It's a cross from a private breeder in the bay area who hit an Afghan called Guava Jelly CBD with some pollen from a Syrian Landrace. The Syrian (anecdotally) has low THC levels and substantial accessory cannabinoids, though I haven't seen any testing to confirm this. The Ceasefire smells and tastes like overripe peaches when cured.

It's a mellow smoke with some body to it. I like it in the evenings, but it's good at any time of day. Feels like somewhere between a type 2 and 3.

Worked through a few Garnet Kush, a type 3 variety that is based on E1/Bubba. I was hoping to make some beans, but I ended up hating the effect of both females so scrapped that project.

Ran a couple Type 4's looking for something unique that is not related to Oregon CBD's White CBG. I absolutely found some unique plants in this OZ Kush F3 CBG selection, but I did not like the smell and taste of either. They also don't have the resin quantity/density, or the overall yield to be useful for extracts in my world.

The #3 is on the left and the #1 is on the right.

#3 smells and tastes like earth and matcha

#1 smells and tastes like Wild Bill's peppered beef jerky. It's really loud, too. When I pop this jar in a room of unsuspecting people, nobody thinks its herb.

Eventually I moved back to the type 3s with the G2 Kush (also E1/Bubba based with similar parents to the above OZKs) and found the dankest plant I've ever held, and easily one of the top 5 smokes I've experienced. This one has thoroughly disappointed many THC lovers. It smells and tastes like garlic and gas. There's a certain quality to the flavor that reminds me of early 2000's ECSD, though it's not as long lasting.

This is the jar I go to over all the other jars. Shit yielder. But every little nugget is mouthwatering.

There was some haze in there for a while, too. This is Ohaze from Authentic Genetics acting as a cover crop for the G2 Kush. I flowered her at about 4" tall when she had just 2 nodes and then bent the shit out of her and kept her flat all the way to the end.

I started chopping one branch per week starting at week 14 and the final buds were harvested after 18 weeks. This was my first time with a longer flowering plant. She got a little crusty at the end.

The smoke is very special. The 15 week buds are sweet and spicy. Really complex bouquet. The effect is bright, social, energetic, even motivational. The smoke (hell... even the vapor) sticks to clothing and stays in the room for many hours after a sesh.
OHz1 15wk (2).jpg

At 16 weeks it starts to get more spicy and dial back the sweet. Lots of other things going on like leather, wood, and a ton of other notes I can't identify. This one has a bit of an edge in higher doses.
OHz1 16wk (2).jpg

Week 17 is even spicier, with a more full bottom-end with the leather, other male grooming products, woods, and some incense. This one can induce panic attacks in moderate doses.
OHz1 17wk (2).jpg

And the 18 week buds aren't quite as spicy, but are more incensy and leathery. I can't smoke this one. It's fucking scary.
OHz1 18wk (2).jpg

These are still curing, but the plan is to sample them in a couple weeks when they hit the 3month mark, and again after 6months to get a true representation of their character.

So that's the update from the arboretum. There's plenty more in-flight and on deck. Lots of interesting new vaireties to grow, smoke, grow, smoke, kill.... rinse... repeat... and maybe find a winner or two.
