The wall does have an effect though. It funnels migrants out into the desert and the mountains. Many are dying out in the vastness of inhospitable terrain. Especially in the summer heat. That’s not propaganda.

I was asked if I wanted to join a volunteer organization that hikes into the deserts of Arizona, California, New Mexico, and Texas to recover bodies. I have not taken them up on that yet…but I know people who have. It’s real.

I live more than 100 miles above the border here in New Mexico. Above the boot heel part of the State. There’s only a barb wire fence on the border. Same when I lived 20 miles above the border in the backcountry of Southern California. Barb wire fence. No wall.

The people illegally entering the country via the southern border can’t afford to fly in of course. Lot of South and Central Americans, Mexicans, and people from African countries. Same as always. Coming in with what they can carry.

Otherwise come on in legally and overstay your visa. Easy way to do it. How my Swiss wife did it in the mid 90’s. Helps if you can speak English and have some funds. Helps if you aren’t brown and obvious. Speaking real.

In the 90’s I worked on a Resource Impact crew on a National Forest right on the Border. We hiked illegal trails made by smugglers and migrants cleaning up after them. Many times had migrants lost and out of food and water…surrendering to us. They were out there wandering for days. Call Border Patrol have them picked up and deported. See you again in a few weeks…or maybe you make it this time. I respected them for their effort. Not an easy route.

We are not privy to the bigger picture. I do not claim to understand the way it works. But it’s run by international conglomerates diversified into many branches of commerce. Some legal. Some not. Governments act as muscle. Naturally. Balanced and Blueprinted

The story telling we hear…is mostly a dog and pony show. Most semi reasonable people acknowledge this. Play to the peanut gallery however it must be done. That Southern Border is a thing of beauty. It’s been in a state of disruption since its inception after our war with Mexico back the late 1840’s. For me…it’s part of its allure. Dusty and dirty.
