What percentage of migrants are gang members?

0.1%? Far less?

How many of you wouldn't be here if that standard was applied to Irish and Italian immigrants?

A higher percentage.

The Irish and Italian immigrants came in the proper way. The same way the Mexicans should. It was a different time too. The USA still wanted and needed new people.

How about a new immigration policy. When they get to the border we give them bus rides to the Canadian border. Then get back to us after 30 years of that policy. No separation of families. The families get to stay together in Canada. I don't think Canadians will be happy with the results.

While approximately 5,000 Mexicans enter Canada each year as temporary students or contract workers for agriculture, these are not counted as immigrants because of their explicitly temporary legal status. Unlike the United States’ Bracero program, the temporary-worker program in Canada has various mechanisms to discourage workers from overstaying their permits.[2] On the other hand, there is a moderate number of Mexican citizens who, after not being able to attain legal status in the U.S., settle in Canada to try (and in many cases succeed) to secure a much more favorable path to citizenship.

There are 250,000 immigrants entering Canada per year. There are 2.2 million immigrants entering the U.S.A. per year.

Here is my take on immigration as it stands now. It doesn't matter what country the people are coming from. We don't have room for any more immigrants. We don't have the money and we don't have the jobs. The stadium is full. No more tickets can be sold or given away. Simple supply and demand. The supply is too great and the demand isn't there.

On the surface, the assertion is accurate. The term “illegal immigrant” did not exist in the American lexicon of the 19th Century. Back in 2014, the Boston Globe’s Johanna Weiss’s column posed the question about the phrase to Mae Ngai, a Columbia University historian and expert on immigration. Ngai replied, “People are shocked when I say before World War I, there were no green cards, no visas, no quotas, no passports, even. Really, you just showed up. And if you could walk without a limp, and you had $30 in your pocket, you walked right in.”

Bring 'em on.

Canada needs to increase immigration, as documented in private and public reports for decades. We are a large country with a small population. Population expansion is hindered by declining birth rates from one coast to the other, without an influx of new blood we will steadily decline into obscurity.

Last year saw a spike in illegal crossings as a result of retractions to a longstanding US stance of providing safe haven to refugees fleeing natural disaster.

Guess what we did?

Treated them like humans.

You don't get to think for Canadians, nor do we want your ignorant small minded opinions. Efforts from the fake media (mainstream and social) that proliferates in your country to seep north fall flat. Few up here buy into your brand of bullshit.

So, oddly enough, immigration practices have changed over the course of the last 100 years and the population of the US increased from 100 million to 330 million. And by the way, the Ellis Island immigration inspection station opened in 1892.

Bring 'em on.

Not only is your welcoming statement incorrect, but it is pretty ironic that after all of your professed opinions on the US that you should consider Canada to be beyond the same treatment.

None of those articles address declining birth rates or measures to increase population expansion.

None were written in Canada. One link is broken.

Up your google-fu.

Of course we were overwhelmed. We don't have a system to deal with illegal migrants on scale. The same thing happens every time a boat drops from Asia. Temporary last minute measures are rushed in to place.

I didn't say that they did, and having an origin in Canada has nothing to do with reporting the frantic response to a tiny number of illegal immigrants heading your direction rather than your professed open-arms approach. No, there was not a last-minute effort to accept the illegals, but rather an attempt to stop the influx and run them through established legal channels. Gee, why does that approach sound familiar??

Canada has 10% of the US population and 1% of the number of illegal immigrants. You have the temerity to cast aspersions at the way that things are handled in the US while stating that our opinions of the way that things are handled in Canada are irrelevant. Hypocrisy much?

By the way, the EU just caved on automobile tariffs.

They love to argue about things they know nothing about. Arguing with a Canadien about Canada when they're Americans. WTF?

We are about ready to move to the land of Trailer Park Boys. Any idea how Americans are received and what is necessary to transfer into the health system? Wonder if it helps if you have a needed specialty - wife is an RN.

Well I'm here arguing about Americans with Americans and I wouldn't touch American reality TV news with a ten foot pole so..

You could say I am familiar with hypocracy.

We do need RN's. I have no idea about the approval process but having capital smoothes the bumps. I would inquire at an embassy or online. The standard warning for moving to the east coast is to pack your job in your luggage. Many of them come west seasonally for work.

During the original exodus from Syria and neighbouring states, private sponsorship of refugees eclipsed the government sanctioned arrivals by a wide margin. Ordinary Canadians donated so much of their own money the system was put on hold.

Two years later there is still a backlog. We do not have the public resources to deal with the influx and have a horrible 1984 style bureaucratic nightmare of a government. We are sticklers for paperwork but I believe an amendment to the regulations allowing reception through standard ports of entry is in the works.

Most of the Haitians et al arrived in border towns across the Prairies. Of course a town of 500 people can not handle as many refugees as they have citizens.

And even now many of the Arabs regret coming. The majority of those assigned to the northern territories and northern ends of provinces have fled south to warmer climates.

Can't really blame them. It's quite a wake up call when your eyelashes freeze together.

True, Taking ownership however adds a reality connection otherwise missing.

The job situation explains the low prices on property. We're thinking retirement but my wife is younger and wouldn't mind doing some part time RN work. She speaks french too. We're going in august and finding expats who know the ropes is high on the list.

Are you using "you" as a plural?

When do you think you will move? Before or after Trump wins a second term?

I don't know if the OP is aware but Trump had a meeting with North Korea. It went great. Kim is dismantling a test site as I type this.

Sorry I stopped watching as "Rebel Media" faded away. Not so hard to dodge malarkey when it's built into the name.

Our tariffs are a retaliatory response. We aren't expecting to cripple an economy or country ten times our size. The value is solidarity among your former allies.

Classic you. Ignore the meat and attack the person.

I get it, you're still a believer. What you probably won't believe is that the number of ex-believers is through the roof.

Classic. You ignore the information because you take offense at the opening credits.

The point is that you are not going to cripple anyone's economy other than your own.

You always draw first blood and then when when well met, you can't take what you dish out. And there was no meat. It was a bare bone.

Like said, that wasn't the point.

I ignore everything from "news" sources that include the words

Real, freedom, free, rebel, earth, natural, holistic, etc.

Why?

Because it's crap.
