Anyone have any experience with making your own coco coir/peat? It's an idea I've been kicking around lately. I remember seeing a company from South America (Brazil, I think) that sold coconut husk shredders. Just thought I'd mention it to see if anyone else had done it.

great idea ~! coconut skin is real inexpensive around here .. haven't done it myself but would love to mix some of that with cow/bat manure ..

Hey Chaman it is good to see you back in circulation again. Thought you'd hung up your toking gear for a moment there, and that was a sad thought, since your stories, like those of Back Country, were always so inspirational.

Pulling up a chair here.

Gracias Viejo!

Gracias Chaman, como siempre,
Well all info and tips that you provide will be followed. regarding the strain, I know what you mean, but already have the seeds and first I will try the spot, and then chance for better suited strains.
But as a destiny call, I just got the best jamaikan brick I've ever tasted!!!, yo llevo unos diez años fumando y provando la 'jamaiquina' desde q la empezaron a vender, y esta q consegui esta deliciosa!! casi q sabe y huele a creepy! full resina, cero ramas y en 2 z (50+g) solo he encontrado 3 semillas!!!!
So I'm putting these jamaican seeds to see what happens! I mean they probably are better suited for humidity! but I don't know.
All my plans will take some more time than expected, so as soon as I start I will be here asking for your help! and also putting pics!!!

Coco coir/peat

Coco coir/peat

Chaman & friends,

Anyone have any experience with making your own coco coir/peat? It's an idea I've been kicking around lately. I remember seeing a company from South America (Brazil, I think) that sold coconut husk shredders. Just thought I'd mention it to see if anyone else had done it.

Guys, I've never done coco coir/peat myself, but have read some things on the internet, and I know some company that actually is producing It.
The thing is that you cannot use the cocos that already have been on sea water or sand on the beach, for two main reasons:
1-Salt
2-Ph

The salt itself will be fatal to any plant, because of the high concentration, and Ph will have to be neutral, and been exposed to these conditions will vary the Ph,
Eventually you can use some cocos that been on these conditions, but will have to apply some process to wash the salt and level the Ph that will cost $$ and wouldn't make sense.
I think that the companies that produce coco coir/peat use palms on different soil, or have a system that don't let the salt get to the cocos.
I'm not 100% sure of this, but you get the idea!

Aloha!! Wanted to say HI... I'm growing mold proof jungle strains in California and Hawaii. This thread has been my inspiration, thank you all very much for all the wonderful info. Thanks for sharing the ups n downs of growing plants in the jungle. I have read this whole thread at least 5 times, not counting the 10 -20 page runs late at night when I'm stoned.. Cheers to Chaman first off for making this possible, and cheers to all that contribute. I wish you all well and ALOHA!!!!
Jitamon aka JOJO420
I erased my email account somehow, not realizing that Jitamon could no longer log into ICmag.com. My account now is JOJO420 , but Im really Jitamon, now know as JOJO420.Argh.. LOl..
Please feel free to check out my Mold Proof Jungle Strains thread. We are testing cutting edge Hawaiian, Californian, European, Canadian,South Pacific and Beyond genetics in a Tropical Climate. These are being grown Indoors , grown in green houses and Outdoors from seed. Here is the link https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=98802&highlight=Jitamon
I hope to contribute my knowledge and experience to this thread. I wish everyone Blessings and ALOHA!!!

Alehp,
Bro, pues ahi nos va contando !! JEJE Please post pics too see how things come along, crossing my fingers for great things to come your way. I've heard of that Jam thats around, jejejej really interested in some seeds, if you can get more let me know !!! jejeje always happy too try new Jam's ;)

And yes coco's off the beach can't be used, but i'm sure youve seen in places near the coast that plams don't just grow along the edge of the beach, they grow inland too. These can be used. I buy it from nursery stores, that or rice husk's. I used too use shreded dried grass too, worms loved it ! jejee but all these will eventuraly affect your N with time.

Spaceman Spliff,
Bro soo awesome too see you here, jeje looking forward too see how those grow, been so many yrs I hope they still pop. Blessings and fuerte abrazo my friend !!!!!

JoJo420 jejeje kinda hear the Homer Simpson DOUGH !!!! jeje I erased all my youtube reggae play list the other day thinking I was just erasing one song...I lost 180+ jeje was soo pissed...but hey, all's good. I'm def going too check out the link. Thanks for takeing time to post and reading the thread jejeje lots of great growers here indeed.

Mold resisten strians...jejej sounds like a dream. But can you say to garantee ? jejeje wow. One thing is grown in temperate zones, other thing is the tropics but def want too go check yoru work out. Also indoors the enviroment is really controlled, more interested in the greenhouse work, and the ones outdoors. There are places in Cali, and Hawaii that get awesome rain fall, but not sure if the all round humidity is the same as in the tropics.

Interested in the strains, crosses and your selection style too see what you looked for and what you avioded, jejeej of course if you don't mind sharing.

I used to try...jejej when I had the genetic pool I had, i'd look too cross high land short stubby faster growing sativas with the low land tall, lanky, longer lasting sativas too keep things Sativa all the way and avoid all together indica genetics...Found most Indica genetics like the heavy thick buds that don't get good air flow through them rotting from the inside out. Always saw that anything with Skunk had tendency to mold, so avoided afghani genetics and looked for more Paki, Bangladesh and other places that would be less desert but still in the same geografic zone, but used to more humidity. I'd dream to have highland Indians from himalayas !! jejeje But these where just my kind of thinking, not too mention I wanted too Get High !! jejeje wasn't looking for the Stone...or to adjust my production wieght...sativa buds are light and should be this way too airate and not trap humidity in my opionion....heavy think buds are wonderfull too look at and feel, but not too be grown 80% of the yr. I get sad when I see that wonderfull think cola getting fat and I know i'll have too cut it early...getting greedy and waiting for it to thicken or mature right will result in major loss due to mold, jeje unless it's summer time !!!

Then agian....we got ripped off this yr. Has been rainning during summer alot. Not somehting normal at all...thats really pissing me off jejejejeejjee mean its nice for the garden and trees...but not my buds !!!

I'll be checking your links out soon, thanks agian for sharing the link and taking time to post here. Blessings ! Mucha suerte (best of luck)

have you tryed getting seeds from seedboutique/bay ?

i have ..and moved to a different seedbank .. the attitude .. it has worked for me :tiphat:

however i see you are more the kind of guy that could take a car drive down to el valle de la estrella and gather some of their purple heirloom ,,, and real manga rosa ...

have you done this allready ?? did you lost them or what ??

i wonder why are you so much into jamaicans ..jam bricks are mainly dutch genetics....

you are way better ordering some seeds ,, not all seeds are expensive ;)

Freaks,
Cool of you to take the time to stop by, I used to have some contacts in South Africa back in another grow room called Overgrow...shame, they had sent me a very long time ago some nice landrace Red beard, and...jejej can't remember the name right now, Never got around too even try them. Real sad, I did try some Congo x Nigerian that friends shared with me that I really liked alot !! I know that there has too be some reall precious African Sativas out there, miss that Spice taste and smell.

Electrosticky,
Diay que te dire...what can I say. I keep hoping too find the more sativa Jam genetics, yes the more indica ones have mold problems and don't yield much at all. High isn't that great, and really pack more of a stone...Party Pooper jejeje brought some with me to some partys at friends houses, before I knew it poeple where passing out on the couch and getting readdy to go home jejeje, big difference as when I bring Sativa buds, music is load, people talk'n about crazy things, party feels great and alive ! jejeje Last night I couldn't sleep, was play'n video games....took a few puffs of my Jam, jeje little while later was crashing all over the place passing out while still actually playing the game jejejejee....but if you had seen the Jamicans I used too grow, tasted like Grapes !! jejeje and where wonderfull tall, slender, sativas !!! People used to call them Lambs bread, and Rasts grew them way up in the hills far away from everyone....now it's all comercial, Rastas don't make enough, and gangsters own the comercial business, to get more wieght and faster grows crossing too Indicas..Litteraly shitting on some of the best Tropical Climatized old Indian, African Sativa mixes ever made. FUCK NARCOS !!!! fuckers like them are shitting on genetics world wide, and making bad names for anyone who plants a seed. When you start too thing more about the money, and less about the love of what your smoking, or about the patients your helping...it all becoumes crap. Money over mater jejeje might work for some poeple, but not me. So I cross my fingers and grow out alot of Jam's jejeje and yes I have found many more sativa style ones, that I later cross too each other when I get a chance, or to Colombianas also, each time I hope getting further away from the Indica genetics. I lost contact with my Rasta Bobo-Shanti friends in Puerto Viejo, they used to get the seeds direct from their Rasta camps in Jam.

To drive my self out to valle la estrella with out a guide jeje could get you killed now a days, lots of that is Narco controlled...or Gangster's. You'd need a friend too get you close. But yeah i'd love too go out there agian, I used too go when I was in med school often, and we'd bring med supplies and clothes for kids, jeje and one of the indians cuaght me smoking once and said next time we could trade for pot, and I did for a little while. This was back in 97 or 98 the latest...Indians didn't seperate males, or Hermis...Wish they would !!! jejej and pretty much left things to open polenate, but that gave me some realy strong genetics back then...plants where tuff, and climatized. Back then...La Mango Rosa, was the SHITTTTTTT !! finger licking awesome....had a few of those seeds i'de grow out now and then....all lost. Sucks was a nice time in my life, and smoking those buds was like time travel, jejeje Things really have changed down here...people are getting really violent, more and more people are carring guns...even me, jeje still working on paper work to be legal...

I like the landrace gentics, and ive seen people pay good money for seeds...when they grow them, jejeje they all look the same !! Sk-1, white widow, ak-47, white russian, northernligts, dude...sooooooo many my friends have bought, when grown, side by side all with diff names and prices...looked very similar. So I'm very anti Holland seed banks and Canada banks. Ace has been awesome, really professional.

Can't trust what seed packets say and what these controlled enviroments post on these sites and pics...jeje well can grab a pic from anywhere, change the name...and charge what you want, most the time they don't even try out there genetics or just sell F1's....so I like to talk, get too know growers, see what they are doing...get a feel for thier expierience and time they have placed in there gardens. These are the kind of seeds I like my friend. Seeds that have been carried in hands with love jejeje sounds gay...but its true, not someone who is counting seeds and all that you see in his/her eyes are $$ $$.

jeje need to finish this mañanero....

Blessings !

oh jeje by the way, my Colombian has almost turned black !!! jeje sooo purple, the buds look black when dried. Famouse Colombian black ? jeje who knows but i'm rolling fatties and loving it. It gets you hight a few good toke's in, not right away....then jejeje just keeps on creeping on you ! jeje love that, smoke now....and little while later your loving it, all smiles. Taste and smell is still little harsh since bud wasn't cured and still pretty "green" Clorofill needs to oxidize some more, but really nice. Great hug yield...so much alot has gone to waste actually....I took all that shredded it and make a palangana (shitload) de Canabutter, can't wait too try out !! jejeje sitting there in the freezer waiting for the right recipies.

ickybuds2012

jajajajaaj palangana de mantequillaaaaa .. arrriiiiba los mantequillasooos jajajajaj mae que buena nota eso es rajado tuanis ...

i feel you .... i did not live in the old days .. but have strong roots there ... so i feeeeeeel you dude ..

its not all lost though ... you just have to have faith and since you have that ..(growing random jam genetics only separating indica from sativas) .... so why not believe in the good seedbanks ... i dont know if you looked my thread but i am growing sensi seeds ... ordered from that seedbank i told you ... came in the original breeders package ...sealed .. ... for example .. you could order from delta9labls pure cambodian .. ace seeds and cannabiogen sells there as well ... so its not all greenhouse and rez seeds you know ... i have had friends get lucky with jams .. then they smoked it and it was over ... pure lambsbread .. i feeeeeel you like i felt your comment on manga rosa and the valle de la estrella ... i have not gone myself and have no fear going alone ... think narcos are tuff wait til u meet me bro ;) ... however i have a friend who used to grow in that valley so its all cool ...

jajjaajajas make a long post very chaman-like jajajaja guess i am still half drunk last nite i went for some tekilas after sharing a spliff with a fellow icmager ;)

Greetings chaman, I have started a little project that I told you about, but I had to go all guerrilla, with no artificial light at all, to see how It goes, I started with 8 seeds of a seedbank (40 % sativa) or something like that, and 4 jamaikan from a brick but the best quality I've ever smoked of jamaikan,
All seeds from seed bank open and good shape, 3 jamiakan looking good, the conditions have been very cold in the spot, and the jamaikan show some purple color since comming out of the seed,
I used a Taco-Bell package for starting the seeds and then make a 'cuadricula' with bamboo and put a large plastic bag on top for bug protection, no direct light on first week, I'm starting to get them some more right now, here are some pics.

update

not sure if you can see what i'm doing here....same process as before, more plants per pot to speed things up and keep them more undercontrol. But as more plants grow together they tend to grow to be single cola plants, so to get a better yield i've been litteraly bending, snapping, twisting and braking stems. I do this out word too so that the plants that have shown to be female I brake off to the sides giving finaly more light to the runts and promoting branches on the famales I bend. So it's win win situation ;) Plants take a day or to to recuperate sure...but when they do they got knots on the stem and more nutrients move'n around and stronger for stems for when the plant fills out and gets some wieght going.

Blessings, cool & calm.

Always a joy to see you growing, brother Chaman. :D

Very sorry to hear of divorce. I know you compromised your lifestyle for the sake of the family. Sometimes you can't contain who you are if natural change doesn't occur.
Hard to maintain the mutual vibe thru time & changes. Blessings to you & your family.

You still doing the football thing? Tis the season...:tiphat:
