Trip to AMSTERDAM in November 2005!

Hello Everyone,

I am flying to Amsterdam this November with my girlfriend.
So it's a done deal. I need some info on the cheapest and best places to stay(besides a hostel b/c we want to get freaky and smoke etc).

Also, what are some good places to eat as well.

I have an excellent book(Get Lost! The cool guide to Amsterdam), i just need some more opinions from people that have been there recently.

I would love to go to The Cannibus Cup(Has been a dream of mine) i just cant afford it.

Any info would greatly appreciated!!!

the cannabis cup is overrated. the best parts of the cup don't require a judge pass.

as for good places to eat, what food do you like?
If you need vegi places i can help, but im useless when it comes to meat.

Thanks brother, that regular pass is still a bit pricey for me, even though i would love to go. As for food, yes, i am very much a carnivore!!!

Well..........If its ANYTHING like last year.... (Skeleton crew of people who don't give a $hit) simply walk in the back door of the melkweg!!

NEVER go in the front door!! Uptown Al and Joe Botz spent the entire cup that way!! Even got to attend the opening ceremonies with the Volcano Melt-Down!!

I have GOT to agree with Tricomefarmer..... DO NOT under ANY circumstances purchase a pass! Do NOT even purchase a day pass!! It is truly a commercial venture having little to do with ANYTHING but making money!

After attending the ICMAG growers cup I have decided to skip the HTCC this year (the 1st time in a LONG time) because it pales so badly in comparison!

Go, hang out with people associated with the cup and see that the ONLY difference is that YOU still have $200 US! Go visit the "expo", a 1 time walk through is MORE than enough!

As far as cheap hotels etc... there was a post around here with some good suggestions..... You can get some decent digs for from 35euros a night up to about 120 (and MUCH MORE for 5 star (ALTHOUGH their 5 star is like a really bad 4 star or really GREAT 3 star in NYC)

is the htcc that bad??? is there at least some good smoke?? i mean i have ben wanting to go to the cup since 97 should i not go and just go to icmag instead. i was considering doing both but if i cant meet a few of the people i was hoping to meet at the htcc and there isnt that good of erb or at least its reallly price inflated then i will skip it and just tour through europe instead. cuz i will be in italy for 3 weeks then i was going to be heading up to adam after that for the cup.

i ahve heard nothing but bad things about how the cup has become to comercial and to mainstream...

Ok now i understand what ppl are saying how its all wack now and commercial. But thats HighTimes for you. Bastads. Anyways as for a pass. I would recommend a pass as to get into the Expo or any of the seminars and into some of the coffeeshops you will need a pass. I know Melkweg personal are laxed. But only sometimes they can be real anal assholes too. I really hope only the music will be held at the Melkweg as it sux ass. But now that HighTimes is running it again not sure where it will be. The prices are only acouple euros more per gram for the entries the rest usually stays the same price. The weed during the cup is way way way frikn better then during the icmag cup thats forsure. Cuz all the coffeeshops entering in the cup. It is has been getting super packed the last couple years so getting more popular. Well just my 2 cents still up to you. See you guys there Jubei

so what are good places to look into while satying in adam. i will be there for the cup adn i want a nice hotle in the thick of things... money is really that big of a deal . so anything 3stars and up is fine by me...also do any of the breeders from here go to the htcc?? like BOG,Rez,gypsy. i know soma is there and the greenhouse guys and a few others but mainly wondering if you will be at the htcc BOG and REZ ? what other icmag peeps are going to go to the htcc in november???

I doubt many will go after last years fiasco, i won't be and i've been to the previous 9.

the IC 420 is a far better event for real growers/stoners.
also April is a far nicer time to be in the DAM.

You are lucky because Amsterdam in my opinion is alot cheaper in November than now. Especially hotels. You should be able to score a double room with breakfast for around 40 euros maybe less...
Just make a search on the internet..plenty online!!

If you're looking for cheap digs and don't fancy going all-out-budget-style with the hostel route, you could try the Hotel Beurstraat, ridiculously close to the Grasshopper by the train station... It's cheap and cheerful, with ensuite rooms. No fancy extra frills, but it was €25 per night and nice and close to most of the action. They don't book online, but you can either phone/fax them with a reservation request, or if you get there early enough in the day, just walk in and you should usually be able to get a room - having said that, if you're visiting during one of the peak times like the CC or IC420, it might not hurt to contact 'em first, just in case!

Food-wise, there's a lot of choice... Barney's is a firm favourite of mine because not only do they serve good food, you can also sit there and burn a fat one at the same time. If they're still doing their all-you-can-eat ribs, it's a worthy test of endurance!!!

There are some all-you-can-eat Chinese places too - VERY cheap (€7 or €8), there's two that I can remember on Zeedijk - avoid the first one you pass on the left and carry on a bit further to a tiny little place where you kinda sit almost in the back of the shop, up some stairs. Not exactly gourmet cuisine, but great when you're struck down with terminal munchies!

Me and a good friend ended up patrolling back and forth between Amnesia and Barney's most of the time - Amnesia for the great selection of quality weed and nice cool relaxed gezellig vibe, and Barney's for the mammoth food destruction missions... Ahh, good times.....

As a few have already said, avoid the Cannabis Cup if you want to have access to some of the better weed around - it's way over-rated and I've found the IC420 to be not only better organised, but with a better vibe and more decent choice of fine herb...

Whatever time of year you go, even if there are no "events" on at the time, you can't fail to have a good time. If it's hot and sunny, get baked outdoors. If it rains, (not uncommon in the 'Dam!) what a good excuse to settle in and lose an afternoon in one of the many fine establishments there!

IC420 = the much better, IMHO, "convention" if you like for growers and tokers alike...

Location - Amsterdam! No surprises there!! Actual venues will probably be decided closer to the date, but I'd check with Dutchgrown or Gypsy...

When? - 4:20! As in, the 20th April! (Or thereabouts!)

see i will be in italy already plus i ahve some friends just outside amsterdam. so i will be there any ways in november so i figure i might as well go to the cup.... i will be planning the trip to ic also noo doubt on that. might even enter if i can get some good strain rocking by then...So basically the htcc is way overrated and way commercialized that noone wants to go anymore..bummer i have been tryn to go since 98 this is actually the first time i will be in europe and completely able to go ..

If you can get there in October, or end of October I HIGHLY HIGHLY reccomend going to Nols (Known as Cannibanol on) Harvest party out at the Willie Wortel coffee shops in Haarlem.

Harvestparty/Oogstfeest 2005 will be celebrated on Saturday, October 29.

Accomodations, Look at the web. for bookings: I use this site:

and you can get good decent accomodation for under 40 Euros a night including breakfast. Also if you know the dates and reserve well in advance then you can get an excellent deal in an excellent hotel that is very central. I stayed once at the Abba booked through this site and it was fine, a little off from central Amsterdam but still good.
