Hello all,

Went to a Giants game today. First time in my 58 years I have been to a mlb game.

It was a great experience.

However 12 dollar beers and 14 dollar sausages makes watching the game in the warmth of my living room is much better when you consider the cost of travel (bus-group from wife's work) and time.

I recommend going at least once cause it is different.

fuk'n rip off. just the same down here.

:dunno: This explanation might take a little of the sting out of the memories of any sporting events you attend.

In the case of MLB games: stadiums are rebuilt/refurbished every 20/25 years or so. Those stadiums hopefully fill up for each of the 81 games (excluding post season if any) scheduled, of course baseball games take about 2.5 hours to play.

So you build, maintain and furnish (inside & out) a stadium (never mind the parking lots, right???) that will see only 2.5 hours of use on 81 days of the year. How much would you be charging for a beer & dog to begin to see a profit?

Plain n' simple, what if you only opened a bar that was allowed to be open only 81 days a year for 2.5 hours each night? How much are you gonna charge for the beer n' brats?

Same thing goes for rock fests or any other special event. You're gonna pay good bucks for your entertainment.

So, minds_I and/or noyd, if & when there's gonna be a next time you play it like this:

pregame or event make sure that you eat well (I/we don't, we like the better stadium food) somewhere close, find parking & instead of entering the stadium go to a local bar (we ALWAYS do this) and catch your booze buzz cheap n' early, then toke up discreetly & go in to see the game. Enjoy yourself & understand that you're really NOT getting fleeced, the experience will be better if you understand their side.

BTW, as far as the 'better' stadium food mentioned above. The MN Twins built a new stadium about 7 or 8 years ago. We get seats in the 'Legends Club' section and enjoy better food & beverage. I can get a simple steak sandwich & fries for $11, or go to the Rod Carew buffet and pay $20; there I'll get a salad, soup, dinner roll, entree & dessert, all of it prepared by chefs. I/we sit at restaurant tables to eat the meal as well. The Rod Carew buffet is associated with the Delta 360° Club.

I usually go to see the Yankees play in Minneapolis once a year & I prepare myself to pay $100-120 above the cost of my ticket to do so. Yes! I wish it were cheaper, but as explained above, it just can't be that way. Except for being rained out one time we've enjoyed ourselves each time, btw, it's a 500 mile round trip from where I live to Target Field.

I/we can leave our seats and walk into the
Legends Club, food, drink & seating at the
windows to watch the game on a hot day.

So yeah, I pay more for my ticket & more to eat, but I make sure to enjoy myself for the outing, I'm handicapped & so comfort is also a huge priority to me.

As usual I'm a bit long winded on my post, but I hope that this helps to level off any feelings of getting boinked in the past & also to help you enjoy any future games you might go to. If you can buy tickets in the luxury section of the ball park then do it, even if it's only once; StubHub is the very best source for tickets where you want 'em.......

Hello all,

Perhaps...but when a baseball player gets a cut of the profit for playing 81 games and is paid 10's of millions of dollars for being good at baseball. This is big business and being fleeced is part of the game. And your bar theory neglects that 41000 people show up at at&t park in those 81 games. Let them make there money...I had a great time...just won't be going back soon. Everyone should try it.

I to am disabled and had really great seats close to the restroom and food and beer. Very accommodating. And should I decide to take a flask next time, won't need the beer. Also, the disabled private restrooms are a great place to take a couple of quick hits...trust me there.

But a 3 hour drive one way is a drawback.

Play ball!

MLB games are definitely a wallet breaker, but I have been going to Fenway Park every year for the last 30 years and will continue to do so until I move or die.

My family finally gave up our share of season tickets and I'm fine with it. Tickets used to be $17 when I was a kid and now the same seats are hovering around $100 each. StubHub is definitely the way to go nowadays. Check for tickets the night before, or better yet last minute the day of a game and you can find some killer deals. Parking is the part that pisses me off the most. Don't get me started........

For security reasons, they stopped patting people down and set up metal detectors instead, which has worked to everyone's advantages because now everyone smuggles in nips LOL. We usually eat before we go in and always buy a bag of peanuts from this eccentric guy outside the stadium. Only thing that is purchased indoors is beer.

I'm planning on surprising my dad with a pair of tickets soon so we can continue our yearly tradition

Sometimes you just gotta do what makes you happy despite the cost.

I haven't been to Fenway since a boy scout trip in the 90's, I do miss it, love the sox, just haven't gravitated that way. I can't find a decent hot dog down here either, I've been buying Nathan's....they're allright.

^^^wrong thread^^^ :dunno:

my 1st springer spaniel Trixie was a very ambitious grouse hunter, she knew when we left the house in the dark w/guns & stuff that it was on. Those were great days when I was able to lead my dog through the woods to my/our favorite spots, her nose & demeanor always told me when birds were close at hand.

I remember her 1st bird, it was her first ever hunt @ 6 months old, still a puppy, she flushed several grouse feeding along a wood line, when I ducked into the brush I found Trixie standing on her rear legs & eyeballin' one sitting in a tree, I dropped that bird right on her head w/a .22 round.

Trixie's last bird came on a day we were hunting with Ken & his labrador, a bird flushed up from Ken's side of the trail, he missed his shot and it landed way up high in a birch tree but on my side of the trail, it was nervous so I shot quick w/my 12 gauge, it came down w/a big thud. Nicest thing is that this particular trail & tree are in my backyard, whenever I look @ that tree my mind goes right back to that moment.

It may be kinda sad but with the exception of my mom my most positive memorable moments in all my life have been centered around the different dogs that have befriended me.I'm wearing a shirt right now with Jerry's pic on it,a 90% shepherd 10% chow chow that gave me 14 years of true honest friendship.I don't ever remember a feeling of being let down not even once.Compared to my human relationships there's no comparison.A tan/blond chow colored german shepherd,he was as good lookin as he was cool. Some famous person I don't know said when he died,he wanted to go where the dogs go.That would be heaven to me too
