The term "Third World" originally referred to countries neither aligned with the capitalist "First World" nor the communist "Second World" during the Cold War, but now it generally describes countries with low levels of economic development, high poverty rates, and limited infrastructure.

Here's a more detailed explanation:
  • Historical Context:
The term "Third World" emerged during the Cold War to describe countries that did not align with either the Western capitalist bloc (First World) or the Eastern communist bloc (Second World).

  • Modern Definition:
While the original political connotations have faded, the term "Third World" is now primarily used to describe countries characterized by:
    • Low levels of economic development: These countries often have lower per capita incomes, limited industrialization, and reliance on agriculture or resource extraction.

    • High poverty rates: A significant portion of the population may live in poverty, lacking access to basic necessities like food, clean water, and sanitation.

    • Limited infrastructure: These countries may have inadequate transportation networks, poor healthcare systems, and limited access to education and technology.

    • Economic and political instability: Some "Third World" countries may experience political instability, corruption, and social unrest, which can hinder economic growth and development.
  • Geographic Distribution:
Many countries traditionally considered "Third World" are located in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

  • Evolving Landscape:
It's important to note that the world is becoming increasingly complex, and some countries previously considered "Third World" have made significant economic progress and are now considered emerging economies.

  • Criticisms:
The term "Third World" has also been criticized for being overly simplistic and potentially stigmatizing, as it lumps together a diverse group of countries with varying levels of development and challenges.

Two words - Bond Rating 🤷‍♂️

List-of-countries-by-credit-rating-Wikipedia-03-21-2025_07_38_PM.png

United Nations and the World Bank have alot of interesting data available, youd be surprised what they make available to the public to read
Point I intended to make USA is hardley a third world, maybe surely not as good as it once was

The U.S. bond rating history, starting with the emergence of credit rating agencies in the early 20th century, saw the U.S. consistently hold the highest "AAA" rating until a downgrade by Standard & Poor's in August 2011. Fitch Ratings also downgraded the U.S. credit rating to AA+ in August 2023.

@Gry and theres the facts you speak of maybe ?

Let me start by saying that I have long thought of Major General Smedley Butler as one of the most admirable of American men. He wrote a short but magnificent book "War is A Racket" https://www.ratical.org/ratville/CAH/warisaracket.html . If you have not had an opportunity to read it, it is well worth the time to do so.
There is a wealth of other interesting material on that website.
On to stolen history, along with who and why.
I would like to touch for a moment on the Administration of Woodrow Wilson: Birth of A Nation, need I say more ?
Give me the child for seven years, and I shall show you the man. Aristotle
A senior member of the Wilson Administration was given responsibility over three young siblings from within his family. Two boys and their sister.
These three children were turned into the most effective double agents that the world of intelligence has
ever known.
What is a 201file, and why does it matter : https://www.cia.gov/readingroom/search/site/201 File
We are at war, and have been for some time. It was not something we chose or wanted, it was pressed upon us, by the most fortunate and blessed amongst us, our own Uberclass.

You would concede then…that the title of this thread is hyperbolic nonsense? And if that is true…then the op of this thread is also questionable in his tactics of presenting his conjectures and opinions?

Where do you live? Pennsylvania? Michigan? Ohio? I’m guessing you’re not in the Bible Belt. Not out West. Somewhere north though….somewhere that you are comfortable pointing the finger from afar.

hyperbole isn't nonsense, i use it all the time as a rhetorical device. i can't know op's intentions unless op elucidates them, but i do know that there are many places in the u.s. that could easily meet the basic criteria of a third world country.

the problem i see is that there is INCREDIBLE wealth disparity, it's more informative (imo) to look at individual regions, states, even counties... how many people in appalachia don't even have potable water?

You truly are a dancer. Hyperbole isn’t nonsense? 😂 it’s like a shrilling screeching noise that people use to grab attention. I realize you use it quite a bit. No fucking shit. You enjoy using rhetoric as a tactic to spread your views. It’s a learned behavior.

Which State was that again? You can say.

Dance away

Dispatches from the war torn city of Toronto . . .

Gee, who would have ever thought that King Cheeto would lie . . .

Falsehoods about the terms of U.S.-Canada trade aim to shift American public opinion
And about that fake reason for a tariff war . . .
Coming to a red state near you. To most of us, it is obvious that the customer pays tariffs, but King Cheeto's supporters seem to be deluded about that. We will help educate them.
