What I am saying is the projection of power through carrier groups is only effective against nations who don`t have the means to fight back .
Cpl of years back a Russian air force jet electronically blinded a US Navy ship and flew low and close to it .
Russian media claim its military is now capable of neutralising US warships with electronic jamming devices
Was that a wake up call ?

One of the most interesting news pieces of the 2010's.
Earth-shaking if it happened. One Russian airplane, happened to be a fighter. Set up with Electronic Warfare (EW) equipment.
The story - not just EW, Russia's best. Shut down an entire AEGIS system on an American destroyer, the USS Donald Cook.
I'm not sure how much of the story is true. It's not like any of can contact the US State Department for clarification.
"AEGIS System" has specific meaning relative to Missile Defense. Suffice it to say, in the news story, Russian EW Fvcking Dominated America's EW.
Kind of a Mirage-ish news story though.

Is it true the USSR kept vacuum tube tech going because of the threat to integrated circuits from electro magnetic radiation ?
In the 90s tubes for guitar amplifiers mostly came from Russia or China .
Is that urban myth or does it have some basis of truth ?
What about those incidents where US Navy ships loose the ability to navigate and collide with other ships ?

I don't know.
The US still makes vacuum tubes for microwave frequency amplification, for radar etc.

I have read about incidents like that, near Japan & China.
They sure seem suspicious, like, "how could the ship Captain be so Klutzy ?!"
It's not like they debrief us older semi-retired folks.
It does seem like there are more incidents than would normally be achieved with mere Klutziness.

My Guess is that Russia and/or China have learned how to do a root-level SOMETHING, maybe a re-boot (Control-alt-delete on a Windows computer), on the electronics systems, on some American vessels.
Not a situation where total control is handed to the Russians or Chinese.
More of a situation where Russia and/or China figured out how to put the American craft into a "Reset" mode.
The scene in the movie "Ocean's 13" sort of shows why that's a problem. A large complex fictional computer system. In the movie they get it to re-set by making it think there's an earthquake.
That knocks it into a 're-boot' mode.
Re-booting my own home PC is a Pain in the ASS. Takes 10 minutes to re-boot, 30 minutes to re-load everything.
The airborne or shipboard avionics & electronics warfare systems are a lot more complex than my home PC.
The US probably knows EXACTLY what happened, with those crashes near Japan & China. They have a log, probably more than one, & they were there.
+ they don't want to talk about it.
Makes an interesting puzzle for those of us on the outside.
I wouldn't be surprised if there was more to the crashes than immediately obvious. Even if they were crashed by Russia and/or China.
If either country was involved in any of those crashes, of course they'd want to watch afterwards. They would learn more by using all their listening equipment.
If the US was smart they would spoof responses, e.g. start the shipboard dishwasher, while they are working on the actual fixes.
Always found the WWII era split with Russia to be interesting.

people are people, governments are something else entirely. on a personal level, normal people get along. elect someone to office, their outlooks change. governments, greed, and the quest for power are the roots of (nearly) all evil. go to nearly any nation that has an issue with the US as a tourist. 99% of the people there will be open & friendly, because they are only people. i know, there are assholes everywhere...

Instead, we’ve let it fall into the hands of wealthy and powerful people who do not like you and me having our say at the voting booth, who have successfully transferred their taxes to the working classes already, and really care if your or I die with all our families: we can work ourselves for a pittance, trade that for food and/or shelter, or we can just die.
They believe that a level playing field will ensure that all the money rolls to them, and they’re tired of us pretending we have anything to say about any of it: if we haven’t ruthlessly grasped every opportunity to enrich ourselves (notice the lack of distinction between legal and criminal methods), who cares how the deck was stacked, we’re not players.
We even get people arguing over whether electing our representatives is a democratic process, and the ones who like to remind us that the USA is a republic, they never mention that it’s a *federal* republic ‘cause they’ve spent decades hating on the federal level...can’t make people hate their own government if ya tell the truth, I guess.
I’m not giving up on the old girl, though I may have to fight in the end.
