Folks like to talk about separating the art from the artist when they've got something to gain from the art and they haven't personally been hurt by the artist.
If you're going to idolize the man let's be straight with it. Tom mocks the folks who idolize him and who call them "his strains". He is open that nothing of his was really his, that nothing of this plant is really ours. The haze line is a fraction of what was the Positronics stock, the man doesn't even like hearing it called "Tom Hill Haze". No one putting him on a pedestal seems to notice that Tom openly mocks them here for it. It's like it flies over their head. Godspeed to those of you who got orders in.

Tried Macs repro of THH.
Waste of time, comparing the High.. Even zkittles was better in both High and taste.. if u Wanna go with tropical sativa why no just go with thai Sticks, kalinga, or ex old timers gear etc. It rocks!
Heard him say if u get the 5% blah blah if he has those "golden specimen" then go and self it like other do with their cuttings.. sry to say, but all that shit with only the 5% jezz, then u haven't done your breeding well, sadly he is not the only one..

Tom is absolutely correct when he argues that some traits are just variable by nature, and that trying to fix them is a waste of time because their nature as genes is to be variable. I disagree with him that the high is one of those variable traits. We've all seen the advances in bud.
Tom's attitude with Haze was informed by Rob Clarke's, that any discovery of some awesome seed represents a spot in time/space that you can't stay at, at best you can slow the decline. Tom's open-pollination of Haze is directly from Rob Clarke. It's a way to not paint yourself into the corner with selections when your plant numbers are going to cause genetic drift. This is what genetic drift ACTUALLY is by the way, the idea that a smaller isolated population doesn't adequately represent the larger population, and over time becomes its own thing. "Tom Hill's Haze" is a small representation of the overall larger Positronics' Haze, and Mac et al's selections are by necessity an even smaller representation of that population. Only way to avoid it is to either use massive numbers, or outcross and start the process again.
The whole 5% thing is just a byproduct of the initial population numbers Tom had and the selection methods he used to attempt to slow down the decline. This is really the stuff y'all should be appreciating about the man. Huge ego towards other humans, was smart enough to know he didn't have the numbers and that none of us have the knowledge to "pick a male" without progeny testing, and that the best course of action for preservation was open pollination.
