meters

meters

i finally got some meters so i mixed up a gallon of what i've been giving them lately to see the numbers.

Tap water: 320ppm ph: 7
thats pretty high, i diddnt think our water was that hard, very pleased about the neutral ph tho.

CocoTek A+B: 5ml/gal, each. =

750ppm
Ph: 6.8

today i gave them around 600ppm @ 5.8
i want to give them a chance to get used to the new water. should i start ramping it up now? i do have flouralicious plus and koolbloom, i may keep the base nutes ppm around 600 and using those boosters to bump up in a range of 700- 900 ppm.

having meters is great because this also allowed me to mix up some light strength nutes for some clones that are finally starting to take off.
i gave them 420ppm of: cocotek grow + 5 drops flouarlicious plus

so minus the hardness of the water they got 100ppm nutrients, is that safe to assume? not sure if it works that way, not sure how people factor their water because alot of people use low ppm or RO water.

clones were started in straight coco brought to field capacity with plain water. clear cups. i wanted to see the roots and plenty people say it really doesnt matter. roots dont mind light. seems like this is true.

any advice on ramping my ppms, and using boosters at this point?

Hmm yeah the photos are wonky that's not what they really look like, they are more of a uniform green color. Now that I'm feeding more they are getting more vibrant and have stopped looking sick. I may continue to ramp the feed.

Cal/mag.
I had an issue with that early on. Turns out my nutes are made for coco, they contain the exact amount that their Cali magic does. I was giving them the calmag so well. I was told to stop doing that because they looked like they were burning. Now they can feed normal, although I feel that I may have stunted them. Between having a poor start with me trying to figure out how to water coco, I know it's crazy but there's a trick to it that I just wasn't getting at first. And by also having no clue how to feed them until now.

The turned up leaf sawteeth, slight clawing, and green veins...tell me CalMag. If you temps & PH are in line, give them 4ml a gallon for a watering or 2...if they improve, you have your answer :)

ok then. sounds good. ill do it. thanks man.

afterthought: now that i think of it. i flushed before flower. a lot of plain water. im pretty sure this resets the coco and it starts to draw or block calcium......i dont quite understand ions yet, but i'm trying. either way, ill try it to see.

so it turns out these plants have had spider mites for months now. these plants have two spotted spider mites damn it! Tetranychus urticae. thats for sure. im certainly learning alot with this first grow! like what not to do... ahhh ill get it. i really wish i had acted earlier instead of ignoring those little white marks. now im wondering what they would look like without the infestation. at least i caught it before it got too bad. its very cool in my spot, so that helps some.

for what its worth here are some more progress photos. i have upped the nutes to 1000ppm. spiking the punch with KoolBloom. the new growth is green as one photo exaggerates, so that is encouraging.

about the mites...... ill be gassing them with no pest strips, cleaning everything, dusting grounds with DE, and using a safe soap or azamax for the veg plants and tent.

Good Luck Everyone! Prevention is the best medicine. I should have taken measures to prevent this. Now I know.

Provided you dont plan on potting up in size at any time, i would switcheroo. If you do want to pot-up, i would do that first, let em settle in for a cuppla days then switch. Cheers and happy growing.

Yeah roots seem to stop growing after its flowering. The extra medium will sit empty.

Is that a concrete floor the girls are sitting on ?...I'd cut foam board circles and place under them, concrete averages 56 Deg summer & winter...cold roots don't grow healthy plants bro.

Not so sure that they wouldnt mind the extra room, i see roots popping out the bottom, thing is, you might be surprised how small of a container you can use with coco. Plus roots grow so great in coco, amazing, really. I will post pics of the rootball when im done.

Yes it is. I cant believe that thought never crossed my mind. Its cold in there either way right now, least i could do for them is keep their feet warm. I know i dont like cold wet feet. Ok. Will do. I got so much work to do. Im sure you all can relate. Cheers. Thanks bwana.

Anything below 62 deg F, and they quit growing...the real problem is it locks out nutrients to the plant, and you will end up with a deficiency even tho it's in the soil/media.

I like to have 10 degree drop differential between lite/dark cycles, just like Mother Nature provides....shoot for mid/hi 70's- lo 80's for a high, and keep the roots warm, for small grows I'd wrap the pots with an old sleeping bag or quilt.,,,and foam board on the floor.

yesterday the high was 60/low 50. It makes sense that growth slowed down when it started getting cold cold around here. I guess keeping them off the floor will have to be better, you think blankets would really help? Thing is, we are having a hard time keeping our living space warm enough.

So if lockout is occurring then what happens if they warm and stay that way? Ive been feeding them heavy, will they burn if they get acess to too much all at once?

Here's what you need, right here. Cost @ $30US for a 4X8 sheet. It's two inches thick, and can easily be cut with a hand saw.

Thank you jellyfish. I could cut that in half and it would fit perfect as a double layer. I will probably have to improvise something. Im going to Lowes tonight but my last bucks for a bit go to kill the borg while its still possible. Ty for all the input guys. Im learning more and more about how little i know.
Cheers

A lot of peeps unwrap the pots when the lights are on, then wrap them up again before the lights go out...it helps if your growing space is cold. Just like the foam board Jellyfish posted, it helps keep the rootball warm. Sometimes I will set shorter plants on milkcrates, just to keep them off the floor until they grow and catch up to their sisters.

If you have lockout issues that's another conversation entirely, I was just mentioning that cold roots can induce lockout of nutrients, and you end up chasing your tail around over ph/nute/soil issues...and it was a cold pot causing the problem. All sub-grade concrete is around 56-58 deg 12 months a year, short tables solve the issue too..based on ceiling/plant height.

Absolutely, I use commercial 3 1/2" & 4" foam that's for coolers...serious R-value and keeps things covert, very expensive tho.

I also run 1" rubber floor in all my rooms, easy to clean and easier on your back.

I hear you about chasing tails. Sometimes the answer is right there and you end up doing every other thing instead, just making it worse.

I really have been wondering why they hadnt blown up, now its pretty obvious. Well, some reasons are clear. Temp too low, attacked by mites, not ph adjusting well water, only having well water, lol. Fighting with not trusting GH dtw schedule, what else?
Geeze.
