Root Aphids??

Root Aphids??

So I went digging for gophers and found what appear to be a root aphid of sorts. I dug up the dead plant I assumed was gopher stricken. Instead of gopher damage, I found small, white, shiny, tear drop shaped crawling critters. Look almost like eggs, but they move. Also, The roots were covered in a white paste. Ive had root aphids indoors before and they were a reddish brown and triangular shaped.

Sorry for the bad pic. By the time I got my camera most of them seemed to drop off.

real bad picture. There was a branch that looked just like these oleander aphids I saw earlier, but white. I disposed of the worst parts before I thought to grab a camera.

how do you control the spread of pollen when you do you're crosses? I've always stayed away from breeding for fear of seeding up crops.
I take the male and keep it in a pot and grow it atleast 1000 feet away. They usaully flower way before the females do any way. I chop it when the first flowers open and put the flowers while still attached to the stem in a plastic bag. I leave the plastic bag open so it can dry to avoid mold. I was able to do this a month ago or more so I have no fear that I accidentally seeded a plant. In a month I will pollinate a single branch of my favorite plant by putting the pollen on a paint brush and carefully wiping the brush against the white hairs of the flowers. I will then tie a ribbon on that branch so I know what branch has all my seeds. I may get a few seeds here in there in near by flowers but I won't come any where near seeding the whole plant or even a quarter of it.

Get some pollen together, put it in a sandwich bag with a small-headed paintbrush.

Go into your garden, find a low branch on the plant you want to seed.

Make sure there is no wind.

Dip the tip of the paintbrush in the pollen, then lift it up a little inside the bag and tap it from the outside with your finger to remove excess.

Get the whole setup as close to the target flower as possible to minimize unwanted pollen spread. Gently dab the tip of the paintbrush into the target flower.

Put the paintbrush back in the back and walk slowly out of the garden. ;-)

Before the August stretch...

I never thought we'd outgrow 10' bamboo. Cheers to global Warming!

If we all increase our carbon footprint just a hair, theres really no telling what we can do with this little plant. Break out the fossil fuels! Throw some baby seals on the coals and lets exercise our god given right to Git Her Dunn!! 'Merica!! 'nough said.

Are you going to use MeloCon or something similar to knock out your bug problem?

I put 1 blue dream in a 500 this year for the first time mid june at 1' tall , its almost 8' tall now. I like the strain. I hope it comes in on time. Do you harvest it in November. There's no way I can do that. I need it to be ready october 15.

Bugs seemed to be isolated to the one plant. I usually lose one every year to something weird. Not planning on treating anything.

The dream is one of the fastest growing strains I have seen. Last year we harvested dreams october 15th, but it could have easily come down sooner if you aren't concerned with maximizing THC levels. This year I feel like they are 10-14 days ahead of schedule. I'm predicting an early october dream harvest.

epicorchard - Nice work you have going this year. Impressed you built the greenhouse yourself, did you have help?

I have what looks to be a very similar greenhouse to yours. 30x48 Envirotech greenhouse, I got the growers package with 7ft roll up sides, 17ft ridge height, tilt up ridge vent. I also have two automated lovers, a 50 inch slant wall vent fan, 4 20" fans suspended from the perlins, and two 8' opens at each side. (one roll up door and the other is a work in progress)

My question for you, does your greenhouse get too hot without forced ventilation? Or do you have fans going? Any tips for a new greenhouse owner?

Yea I built it with a team . 30x48 with manual ridge vent and 7' sides. We're definitely not builders, so it took us a couple of weeks. We also dealt with a lot of bad weather.

We haven't had the need for any fans, air shoots in through all four sides and circulates up out of the ridge vent. I'm very happy with the greenhouse. We do plan on automating the blackout process next year, but I doubt we will add any powered ventilation.
