I used the bio soy m last grow for PM...
That stuff worked great and added a nice sheen to the leaves....
I would assume the I is just as good a quality so long as it's good for thrips....
You may want to check out a bug bomb, I think a spray would almost be pointless because of where they like to hide....
Any time i have ever seen a thrip it was usually hiding where the leaf stem meets the stock... Hard place to get every one....
I think with that supernatural stuff providing you get the mix right you can apply everyday if need be....
Hope yu get rid of em... There mean little bastards

Edit: Do you run c02?? I know if you crank up the ppms it will kill of mites real quick, may work for thrips as well...
Maybe try droppin the temps way down for a couple of days, if possible....
Raising or lowering humidity may be an option as well??

thrips are the baddest pest IMHO...and second comes mites and aphids.

i 'm convincted that the only solution is a great attention when u spray..the right way is to use a spray pump (pulled with hand works) cause work as well as the normal spray tools.

other things is start when the plants are little (clones or seed) one time at week even if the pests are not showing itselves.
ONE TIME AT WEEK:(4-5ML PER LITER + 2TEASPOON OF SOAP)
-START WITH PIRETHRINES + ROTENONE OR QUASSIA ADDING SOAP FOR A PERFECT WETTING ON THE FOLIAGE SURFACE ..
-SPRAY BOTH FROM BOTTOM TO THE TOP AND VERSUS TO THE TOP FROM THE BOTTOM.

CONTINUE UNTILL THE BLOOM PHASE IS STARTING.

IF THERE'S A PEST-ILENCE ATTACK THE GROW ROOM WAS INFECTED AND IT'S GOT TO BE CLEAN WITH SODAS OR NITRIC ACID OR HOT VAPOURS ...SPRAYING PIRETRHINES IN ALL THE AMBIENT AND KEEP ON GROWING
PEACE ........fily

For the first time in a few yrs now...a room I know of is 100% thrip free.
He hadn't been using the Vapona (same as a NPS?) very regularily and even when he did, it was only one in a 12x15 space.
Well, this last time he hung 4 fresh Vaponas and the room had minimal fresh air exchange for 2wks while the plants were small.
Those fuckers are finally 100% gone. Total annihilation :D

After reading up on possible hazards to a human with such a strong dose of Vapona tho...I will recommend that he maybe take them down and ventilate a bit before working in the room next time.

I'm sure you've probably done tons of research on thrips and how to get rid of them, I as well have a thrips issue, and have been seeking any and all solutions.

Mostly I wanted a homemade remedy for cheaps sake, and on the other hand, just because it comes in a fancy bottle doesn't mean it will work, Bio-Soy doesn't really say what it is or what it does, what's it made of? (other than the obvious stated in the name?) and how exactly does it go to work?
doesn't say.

Anyway, I've decided that completely terminating them is not possible until the cycle is complete and I can sterilize the room after harvest.
Control on the other hand, yea I can handle that, keep their numbers low and hopefully damage to a minimum, the leaves have obvious damage, I dont see huge numbers of them though, predators have been applied, might get somemore too just too keep em in check.

Anyway, here is something I found online, another spray to keep em in check.
I havent found a permanent solution that is organic friendly, but hopefully this will hurt them without making the flowers stank too much and/or ruin the flavour of the buds:

Noted organic proponent J. Howard Garrett recommends use of a homemade botanical spray formulated from garlic and pepper. (17) Garrett's garlic/pepper tea is made by liquefying two bulbs of garlic and two cayenne or habañero peppers in a blender 1/3 full of water. Solids are strained out, and enough water is added to make one gallon of concentrate. Garrett mixes ¼ cup concentrate with two tablespoons of vegetable oil and enough water to make 1 gallon of ready-to-use spray mix. (18) A commercial product called Hot Pepper Wax®, containing capsaicin (the active ingredient of cayenne pepper), is also recommended for thrips control.

mark is right on...I've been trying to fully eliminate thrips in my gardens for the last 18+ months. I have tried everything organic, and the only thing that fully eliminated the thrips is the Monteray Lawn and Garden Spray with SPINOSAD. Two applications and I haven't seen a thrip in 2 months!

Einsteen neem oil, and neematoids. or some sourt of thrip preditor you can keep them undercontrol.. im organic guy. and this works great.. neem oil makes it so they cant reproduce, or get into mating by shedding its ecoskeleton.. it can not go into the next faze. So you spray them down good bottom of leafes, stems etc... apply some sort of thrip killing bug. ANd when your done...... Pythiam Bomb the room before putting in any more plants.... and spray down all new plants before entering the room with neem oil. THen re apply once a week untill 3rd or 4 week of flowering if needed.. i usually only need 2 or 3 applications.. every 4 days..

reason to reapply.... the ones that did make it to mate... layed eggs in the soil and on your leaves... but the nematoids or preditor of thrips will kill those... but they will hatch.. so 1 week to hatch normally. HIGH temps they will increase in numbers like crazy. THen it gets Really cold and they dont wanna leave the house.... I have this same problem year after year same time of the year too... i think this has been the worst year yet of them....

So it seems like these bugs are just a natural occurance that we must try to keep to a minimum but at the same time learn to just accept them. Am i right?

OK I'm looking for some feedback on this one, any serious biologist brains out there need to comment on what this potentially might do to a plant.

Years ago I had some serious issues with headlice, mean little fuckers that just would not die. NONE of the chemy shit worked for them, hard bodied little f'n soldier troopers that can live through some serious abuse.

Now I know that thrips and mites are not headlice, but none the less, borg type bugs that will not die.

So this is the recipie that I finally killed them off with:

(Dose for one human head)
I small bottle castor oil
A few flakes of beeswax (just enough to turn the oil yellow)
30 drops Rosemary oil
30 drops Lavender oil
30 drops Geranium oil

Heat castor oil on mid/low heat, flake some beeswax in the hot oil, stir a bit till melted in (not too much wax!) , remove from heat, mix in essential oils, let cool.

Should be a very oily/slimy salve, if it is more waxy like chapstick and not goopy, you've put too much wax in, re-heat and put more oil.

OK so for headlice you goop this shit in your hair and let sit for 3 days (keep head wrapped up in turban!!) rinse away in 3 days and voila! No more bugs!!

Just like thrips and mites, I've seen all kinds of strange brews for lice and the like, some even involve kerosene!!

So here's the deal, I have been lice free for over 10 years thanks to this recipie, and because of it's potency and organic-ness, was considering trying it on my thrips ridden plants.

I consider this because I see in alot of these witches brews for thrips/mites there is oil content, for it's suffocation value, and the one for thrips that involves wax.

WHO on this forum schooled in experience/science/biology has anything to say about this mixture and how it might negatively affect and or kill/suffocate the actual plant along with the borg-bugs.

I'm worried it might actually suffocate the plants aswell because of the wax and thick heavy castor oil. (if it can make it through a spray nozzle, might hafto do some heavy dilluting)

Anyone??

O ps- hello I am new here, longtime lurker, student/nooby/apprentice - organic med grower. :joint:

I lawl. It takes some balls to test out that potion on ur scalp. Did u say castor oil? Isnt that the oil u use in ur car? I hope ur hair is still present, nevermind the bugs lol.

Castor oil is commonly used in herbal medicine, no it's not auto oil.
It's what most herbal salves are made with, old timers use it for a laxative.

It was a long time ago, but no damage at all to me or my scalp/no hair loss.
Most chemy bug solutions especially the ones for humans, attack the nervous system, not sure if isectisides (nice spelling :pointlaug ) do that to plants, but it wouldn't surprise me.

I'm not going near my plants with shit like that until I get some feedback from someone(s) more experienced than I am.

For now I'm keeping temps low, predators on hand, and the occasional veggie oil/dishsoap spray bottle attack.

So far I've only spotted 3 larvae, they havent gotten the better of my girls yet, and hopefully I can keep their numbers low. :dueling:

I had a close encounter with thrips as well, but I avoided lavender or stuff like that, I just remove those little bastards by hand and let the nature…I also found out how butterflies are enemies and they are responsible of the delivery of the eggs. Butterflies how do you plead? Stay away from my garden!
