Thoughts on femed seeds...

Anyone have opinions on the methods for causing male flowers from female plants?

There's natural hemaphroditism.
It seems like there are a varieties of stress - light stress, late flowering (rodelization), etc.
But some of the chemical methods aren't stress, per se as much as suppression of natural ethelyne (sp?) production - the STS sprays and eXe.

I know that grodawg from OG and CW was monkeying with that stuff, and I haven't heard anything negative relating to hermies. I'll PM him on those sites and see if he's had any setbacks.

i'm not looking to argue, i just disagree with ya on this. it seems to me that marketing has more to do with the price than stability.
the reason i think this is because only the more popular well known strains such as blueberry, white widow ...etc are in the top price bracket
i think that if masterkush had ever won or placed in the cannabis cup it would be over 100 bucks.
just my opinion

This is true and I value your opinion. Some strains I have only been able to find feminized. So what am I to do? Even if I get one all female out of 10 its worth the 100 bucks because the number of clones I can get from that one mother will more than pay for itself. In the end it all depends on how deep you pockets are and how willing you are to empty them for a strain of your particular taste.

Ye, i saw this Skunk strain in nirvanas list called Supergirl, and i thought after reading the text on it, that it will be a great xmas present to a growing pal of mine to get him these seeds, but then i saw its only available femenised so it put me off. im sure i can find a nice skunk for his chrimbo seeds. I was thinking of Sirius Skunk.

I have very little respect for grodawg anymore. It's cool he's getting into selfing. It's not cool, selfing WORKING breeders work and selling them for a personal profit. <shakes head> Very wrong IMO.

I didn't realize he was selling those seeds.

If he is looking to profit, maybe that's why I've never gotten an answer on whether he's found a particular formulation or schedule that works well for reversing C99 (which is fairly hermie/reversal resistant, I gather), though I won't make that assumption right away.

Well its my turn, I have some of these DP MasterKush Fem. beans and put them down yesterday, so I'll keep you posted as to the outcome. But I'm not holdin' my breath! However I did a version of Romulan x WW Fem and no herms so its worth a try I guess we'll see, eh?

My first grow was DP Fem PowerPlant and Oasis. I tortured and killed most of them. 3 of each made full term. no hermies and very good smoke for a newbie. Then I never tried them again until now I bought some to try on my 1st attempt at DWC. It has been hell. 2 ea plants started in 10 DWC, each plant has grown different and needed different nutes. I killed the tallest and smallest put the 2 middle together and they currently grow. I wouldnt use femmed seeds for breeding or anything. But under different circumstances, like lack of room or first attempt. I've had good experiences

I've only grown one fem seed pack. DP Blueberry Fem and got 100% germ. rate and pretty decent smoke to boot. No hermies, THEN again... i have only had one plant ever pop nanners and that was a train wreck and it was very late in flower so no harm. So basically, I dont have a lot of experience with fem seeds but the ones I did use worked perfectly for me... only weird thing I saw was weird leaf formations when young.. but I was expecting that from the blueberries anyhow.

Femmed seeds are an unecessary gamble imo. Just be patient, grow normal genetics, find your mothers, clone them, trade them, and collect the winners. This takes time - that's all... Femmed seeds are ok if you don't care about anything but some smoke. But if you care about the fact that you're growing a plant that is genetically dead-ended as far as further breeding value goes, you'll want regular pot seeds.

Also, these genetics are bound to get bred into the gene pool at some point, which isn't anything we want happening. This is all but ensuring hermaphroditic tendencies in future generations - since the mother HAD TO have shown hermaphroditic traits in order to fuck herself the way she did. :D

Let me put another spin on it and ask a question out of genuine damn curiosity.

All the referenced material is primarily about female plants going hermie in some way or another...

What if....it was the '"male" who had decided to spring some skirts?
Not the female? Anyone?...

perhaps a "Key West" strain... *laffin*

I bought a pack of grapefruit seeds from Female Seeds on Seedbay... I'll pop all ten... veg them for a week or two and grow them out in a homemade aero-tubbler under a 430.

I agree with CC.
Grew out some FEM beans a friend had given me sometime back.
DP "Hempstar". An f'd up mess to say the least. Popped balls everywhere,
and the smoke left much to be desired. Total waste of time IMO.
NEVER AGAIN!! Jack.
