Thermostat controlled variable speed fan control - Anyone used this one?

Hey, I have been looking for a vaiable speed fan control that is regulated by temperature so that I can keep a minimun fan speed for my scrubber at all times but automatically increase fan speed as temp rises.

I finally found one!!!!

Variable Temperature Control (VTC-1D)
One of our most popular variable speed fan controls
The Variable Temperature Control (VTC-1D) automatically controls the temperature in a room by adjusting the speed of variable speed fans.

When the temperature is at the temperature set point, the VTC-1D operates the fans at the idle speed setting. When the temperature exceeds the set point, the VTC-1D increases the speed. When the temperature drops below the set point, the VTC-1D shuts off the fans (in shut-off mode) or operates the fans at idle speed (idle mode).

The VTC-1D is ideal for poultry, livestock, greenhouse, or light-industrial buildings.

Features

One variable speed output
Automatic shut-off and idle modes
Adjustable off set-back for shut-off mode
(0 to 16°F)
Adjustable idle speed for idle mode (0 to 99%)
Adjustable temperature set point
Adjustable temperature differential (1 to 20°F)
Three-second full-power-turn-on to minimize fan ice-up
Two-digit LED display
Fahrenheit and Celsius display
Error code display for troubleshooting
Overload protection fuse
Six-foot temperature probe, extendable to 500 feet
Rugged enclosure (corrosion resistant, water resistant, and fire retardant)
CSA approval
Two-year limited warranty
Electrical ratings
Input: 115/230 VAC, 50/60 Hz
Variable stage: 10 FLA
Fuse: 15 A, 250 VAC ABC-type ceramic

Looks like a pretty sweet unit!!!! About $210 US though, but cool none the less.

Anyone used one of these or anything similar?

How well do they work?

Any other units like this you'd recommend instead?

Thanks,

Joe

Joe- Nice find! I have been looking for the same thing..That box is big, sounds like its designed for commercial use which is great for us since I'm sure its well shielded, and U.L. listed.

Here's another company that makes this type but doesn't sell online:

http://www.jdmfg.com/jd_agri/controls2.htm

I googled: 'Variable Temperature Control (VTC-1D)' and got some great hits... Here's your same controller for less than $200.00, don't pay $250.00!:

http://agrisales-inc.com/item_description.php?int_item_id=264

Grainger has them for $204.00.

I'm surprised the online 'green garden' stores haven't picked up on this one! I've never seen or used one, but it seems like the perfect controller. With six foot temp. sensor cord, you can place the box outside your cab (I'm thinking closet or cab grow).

For about $200.00, this would sure help out. Keep us updated if you go this route. :chin:

I use one of these for fan speed control. It works well, but isn't timed for night/day (lights on/off) which is what yours would do.

Harry, I looked at your setup & it looks like it would do what I want.

The only issue is that I am nothing of an electrician & my wife is already a littly sketchy of my hobby.....I think I would want to stick to a commercial type unit for safety/peace of mind reasons.

I appreciate people such as yourself that have the knowledge to produce such an item, & I appreciate your willingness to share that info with the masses even more!

Thank you,

Joe

Fair enough mate.... to be honest i didnt read what u wrote properly and thought you were looking for something similar diy.... I really must stop skimming and actually read em lol. Serves me right for being a smartarse eh haha
Youd prolly get someting on e bay.. theres a nice on that you dont set a low speed..just the temp and the fan speeds up an slows down to keep that temp... I think its a cooling "pulse potential thermostat" really good
