Cleaning out a culvert 3 years ago and getting nailed by rattlesnake on both hands taught me how to deal with snakes, except for black... with a Remington 870.
Never had a problem with them before, but I do now.

i think that's actually a king snake in the picture. several varieties have red/black/yellow bands. copperheads are usually two-tone brown, with older males sometimes being damn near black. their triangular heads are a real clue.

Here's why I'm a little paranoid with snakes these days. Cleaning out a drainage ditch/culvert and got nailed by this:
Luckily it just got the tip of both fingers
It's kind of hard to say you're _lucky_ when you get bit by a fucking rattlesnake but in the grand scheme of things, I was _exceedingly_ lucky.
