This apparently happened in Brazil back in 2016. The driver of the tanker truck somehow survived and was later charged by authorities with willful homocide. Yikes !!!

Here is an explanation of what happened, using Google Translate, so the grammar isn't the greatest :

New images released by the Paraná Public Security Secretariat (Sesp-PR) show the destruction trail caused by a tank truck that crashed in July of this year in BR-277. In the video, you can see the size of the damage caused by the crash, which left six people dead and another 14 injured.

The accident happened at km 33 of the highway. The truck was descending toward Paranaguá, on the coast of Paraná. The story of this accident caused national commotion, by the story of a girl who had been born 15 days earlier. Her parents died charred when they were hit by one of several explosions that followed. However, the girl was saved by the father who, seconds before dying, delivered it to a stranger.

The new footage goes beyond another portion of the video, which showed only the first beat and the first explosion. This time, it is possible to see the burning truck hitting several other vehicles on the highway. The images also record the despair of the people who got involved in the accident, leaving the cars, while everything caught fire. There is even a stretch showing the truck as it passes the toll booth.

High speed
According to a report made by the Scientific Police, it was verified that the tanker was at 123.6 km / h, when hitting the first vehicle. The speed allowed in the section where the accident happened is 60 km / h.

In testimony, the driver of the truck, who managed to survive, told that he knew of a problem in the brakes of the vehicle. This failure was noted by the experts, who observed signs that the brake pads had overheated.

For the Civil Police, the driver must respond for the crime of willful homicide, with eventual deceit, that is, when the perpetrator assumes the risk of killing. Police also cleared the possibility of holding the company responsible for the truck responsible for the accident.

However, although the driver may be tried for murder, he is released. Days after his arrest, which occurred shortly after the accident, he paid bail and was released. He must respond to the process in freedom.
