I was raised in the country with lots of bush all around, so I'm used to bumps in the night. They don't bother me at all. At least not until a couple years ago. Wolves have been breeding with coyotes here.
I had a huge harvest (for me) a couple years ago and was harvesting around the clock. It was about 1pm and dark as shit with no moon. I'm used to hearing coyotes at night so I wasn't bothered by it that night. I could hear them that night in the distance howling and yelping. One minute they were about a mile or so away and the yelping stopped. 15 minutes later they were ll around me snickering and talking to each other. Literally in front, to my side and behind me. Fuckers were watching me within feet. I could even hear them walking and rustling around in the bush. I froze. All I had was a shitty little head lamp and scissors I was using (much faster to strip a plant by hand).
I abandoned my almost full hockey equipment duffel bags and started making low growling sounds and walked slowly towards the road. When i hit it it was all i could do to not trigger a predator response by running to the truck. I was sweating bricks. Huge relief when I got in and locked the door. I returned the next morning to finish up.
This bad boy was shot by a local farmer the next week.
I don't do night harvests anymore.
