Greetings,

The super duper large fast growing male is already re-vegging. It is amazing how sensitive these Thai dominant plants are to fert regiment, pot size, watering schedule, cutting back, etc. The long flowering female from last year didn't reveg until April. I was trying to finish the female using nitrogen deficit, and drought. The male got cut back and fertilized with nitrogen in early December. I can't believe it re-vegged so quickly.

And here he is before flowering and any cutting back, in full glory:

Greetings,

I decided to start chopping down my biggest and longest flowering female this season. I thought it was going to be a lot longer flowering. The weather continues to be bad. The only progress I've been seeing is the number of buds getting mold on it. I chopped down a half dozen branches and started trimming them up in a shady spot. Low and behold, I started finding fresh pistils. I decided to let this plant battle against the weather and mold some more. I don't mind seeing more buds get ruined by mold than not see and test fully ripe buds. Another month to go. I hope it will see some really sunny days ahead.

These flowers are so small and delicate, and so are the new pistils. The aroma isn't though. It doesn't have that sharp lemon citric bite that last year's best plant did. It is a bit sweeter and softer. It does have a spicy herbal smell to it also. Somewhat like medicine. I couldn't quite put my finger on it. Then it hit me. It smells like those lemon herbal cough drops. Ricola. I like it.

Greetings and Salutations,

While it still rains lightly here now, we are starting to get a consistent number of hours a day with clear skies and intense sunlight. The plant is changing rapidly now as seeds ripen. Calyxes are changing color. As the seed is ripe, they change to a golden color. Then they get gray, brown, or even some dark redish brown colors.

I remember that the really good Colombian strains would come with a good amount of seeds, though not as much as I have been making. The good stuff would be multi-colored. I've seen buds from what I think were Punto Rojo, with green, gold, red, and brown colors all in the same bud. I've read somewhere, I can't remember where, that the Thai growers would start checking the plants when the buds started to turn golden.

I've been restricting water. Only enough to keep it alive. The light rainfall has be helping perfectly. I don't think I've watered for a week, but I check a couple of times a day for signs of wilting. So far, so good. I'm amazed at how little water this plant can survive on.

I have some seeds on hand for next season from Prempavee in Thailand. I just visited her website and discovered she has new seed stock, and new varieties. They look like more traditional heirloom varieties available. This woman is knocking it out of the park. I would urge people to buy from her so those genetics get spread widely. We don't know how long this detante will last in Thailand. This could be a once in a lifetime chance to get ahold of those genetics. Please support her!

Here are some photos I downloaded from her website.

She describes this as Giant Squirrel Tail. More than 20 weeks flowering time. Looks like a 20' Thai to me. Holy smokes!

Apple Vinegar Squirrel Tail. I like this picture because I've always limited nitrogen. All those big fan leaves should drop off on their own.

Golden Thai, I guess.

I hope I'm not breaking any rules with this. If so, I'll gladly remove it. I don't have any financial interest at all in the company. I just ferverently wish that these genetics be preserved.

I know how you feel. I've been there. But...

Are you old and lucky enough to have smoked a Thai Stick from the 70s or early 80s? If not, it's unlikely you can conceive of what it is like. I've had maybe fifteen kinds close in fifty years. Only one was more impressive.
Yes, am old enough to have smoked the Thai stick. Started in '77. One of my earliest smokes was the stick, an experience that's still vivid in my mind today. I had some friends homegrown in the 80's that was very close. I live in Australia and nearly all the stuff I smoked back then was sativa, or mostly.

Been following this thread from the start. Good luck in your search.

that squirrel tail phupan with its up to 9% cbg sounds pretty awesome, i love seeing surprising cannabinoid levels.

i need to prioritize like chi, i have neglected genes in the fridge but temptation...

and no, i'm not old enough to have experienced legit 70s thai sticks

I was out in the early morning sun. Loved the way these buds were glistening. I can never get the pictures to capture the sparkling glow very well.

I have to mention, be careful what you wish for. I'm finding more fresh pistils.

For some reason, I like these smaller delicate buds. I think I have had greater success with these types. This plant has yet to prove itself. Last year's big puffy squirrel tail looking buds had the best high of these GNTS x (Neville's Haze 21 x Mullumbimby Madness) seeds, so far.

A reminder of last year's plant:

Hola ThaiBliss 🙏
I hope you are enjoying Costa Rica and your searches
I have a cultural question for you
How can you reccomend something you never grew nor smoke? For me it is no different than reccomending a restaurant you never went to dine in, or reccomending food you never tried
This question has nothing to do about what I think of the weed you are reccomending and urging everyone to buy and preserve. It intrigues me how can something become a reccomendation without ever been tried because this is not the first time I see it happening

I dont know, for me reccomedations are something not to be taken lightly. For me your name becomes attached to what you reccomend. It is cultural question.
Your first picture in this post for me is culturally shocking. I see a human being who has no clue at all about weed in the center of the pic. It seems the person is more important than the weed

It happened to me before in the canna world. Same thing. A very talented grower reccomended me strains he never smoked nor grew. One of them very similar to the hermaphroditic sativa CBD you are urging the world to buy and preserve. Same category of weed. The sativa CBD strain is called Mangobiche from Cannabiogen
It later came up that he reccomended it because some canna god called Kangativa who was doing business with Kaiki said it was good. I mean, if you are making business with somebody you are not going to tell the truth about his product right? And again the same thing, the cultural shock of hyping people instead of weed

What is this made up 9% cbg? Which lab is backing up these figures? It is all made up. If you tell me 9%cbd I believe it

Well, to tell the truth in the category sativa CBD I liked Mangobiche better than this Hang Karong squirrel tail
I dont have any commercial interest in any company either, I am a fan of the old weed. I want to smoke the same quality I smoked in the 20th century
ThaiBliss, do you know of any reliable source of old thai weed? The old thai weed had nothing to do with all these newly released government and university sativas CBD. The only hope is growing old seed

@funkyhorse Have you been to thailand and smoked the weed there recently? I can tell from your response your history with thail landraces is limited, very few thai landraces are cbd varieties, most are thc dominant, the huge tall plants will have the lighest terpene profiles as well, i agree bullshit on the 9% cbd but your out of place, Its public knowledge thailand is in the process of recriminilizing cultivation and thought yes some lines are sexually unstable theres alot of potential in thailand and thaibliss is only trying to help preserve the strains that he originally feel in love with. I wouldn't say anything but i can see in the way you responded you where trying to put him down wasn't necessary the examples your using are not proper comparissions expessically, comparing 2 lines that arent even real landraces in a sense they where not sold from the source their reproductions, any line worked and passed around community grown out of its range can have a name but every time there grown in different soil different environment lighting they change, only true landraces are from the source.. that also bs that 20ft plant is not CBD hemp plant, its biomass but can still be THC dominant.

Hi there verdant whisperer
I would like to clear out that I am posting here is ThaiBliss thread out of respect, not trying to put anyone down. Because I respect him I ask about the cultural question. I spent most of my life in Asia, things like favours and reccomendations are very different in the east and the west
In South America I was shocked to see people refusing a favour because they think if you make a favour they have to pay for it. At least in Asia a favour is done from your own free will and nobody expects anything in return, just good karma
I smoke thai weed since the end of the 90s. I always smoked it in Thailand
I am currently in Thailand again after Covid. I am smoking these squirrel tails and these Tanaos. It is the government weed. The university that released them together with the government that has given away seed by the millions know very well what they are doing

The university says it is CBD weed. It is sleepy very mild weed, it has nothing to do with the stock from 10 years ago and nothing to do with the stock from 25 years ago. I never smoked nor seen thai stick, I dont know. What they describe and report sounds very similar to how Punto Rojo of the 80s smoked and I certainly crave this kind of weed.
We are commenting about this in 2 more threads, pure thai sativas and thai weed from Thailand

I am honestly curious about the cultural thing without putting any culture nor person down. I hope it is ok

"I have a cultural question for you"
Really, a cultural question? So, calling me out on asking people to purchase seeds from Thailand is a cultural question?
:jerkit:
I think you need to be honest with yourself, and honest about your intentions. I've read a lot of your posts, and you are constantly lashing out, and badmouthing things you have no clue about. We have similar frustrations with the state of Cannabis. Namely the loss of diversity due to the rampant hybridization of genetics. The "cultural" difference between you and I is that I try to avoid lashing out at specific people or specific genetics that other people seem to like. You appear to think you are smarter than most others. You think people can't see through your "cultural" curiosity. If you weren't a total rube, you might express your feelings with something honest and say, "It disturbs me that you appear to be recommending something you haven't tested and grown." Or even more honest and say "it pisses me off that you... and are you aware of the Thai govenment dispersing only approved strains". This could be the start of a constructive conversation without excessively long winded antagonization of people. (ha, I'm calling out longwinded, me)

"It intrigues me how can something become a reccomendation without ever been tried because this is not the first time I see it happening." Here are my motivations. I am quite sure that Thailand, Laos, and Burma were once the source of some of the very finest ganja available on the planet, for my tastes. This is from personal experience. I have been smoking weed for 56 years. Thailand has recently decrimimalized Cannabis. This is an opportunity for the genetics to be available to lots of people who otherwise cannot afford to travel to Thailand and search for genetics for themselves.

I have smoked Thai Sticks on and off for over a decade. I have tried to grow the seeds found in them since I was a child. I can see how a lot of them looked. This stuff made a big impression on me. More than any other seed company, I see traits in the plant pictures that remind me of what the plants look like that came from spectacular smoke. Prempavee is in pictures with plants that look S.E. Asian to me. I do recommend buying them and seeing for yourself. Even if Prempavee doesn't have the goods, for our tastes, maybe it will encourage others in Thailand to offer what is available in the region instead of hybrids with hash plants. Wouldn't that be a step in the right direction? Can we agree on that without being "culturally confused"?

"I dont know, for me reccomedations are something not to be taken lightly. For me your name becomes attached to what you reccomend. It is cultural question." Here's an idea. How about recommending some seeds for us to purchase that resembles good strong Thai ganja. Now THAT would be a constructive post from you! Just badmouthing everybody and everything makes you lool like a cultural total dick. It doesn't help your cause. Just trying to be helpful to you.
"I see a human being who has no clue at all about weed in the center of the pic. It seems the person is more important than the weed" Oh my gosh, you are so easily triggered. Have you considered the picture needs a reference for scale of the size of the plants? Not to mention, she is trying to run a business. Please funkyhorse, start a business for Thai ganja that you approve of. I would try it, despite the bad taste in my mouth it might give me. I'm that desperate for some good genetics.
"It later came up that he reccomended it because some canna god called Kangativa who was doing business with Kaiki said it was good. I mean, if you are making business with somebody you are not going to tell the truth about his product right? And again the same thing, the cultural shock of hyping people instead of weed" I can vouch for some of those involved with Bangi Haze and other strains, including Kaiki. Kaiki worked with and shared genetics with Dubi at ACE. Is it possible that when you tried Mangobiche, you didn't grow it well. Have you ever considered that? It's also possible that you need to look through more than just a few plants. Consider that also. I have learned that one cannot treat all varieties the same. Each variety shines under different conditions, even timing of harvest. Maybe cut others some slack and turn the finger towards yourself once in a while. I don't agree with some of ACE Seeds breeding directions that they have taken. But I do know that they actually do breeding, not just selling knockoffs or ustable strains. ACE calls out if they are selling R&D seeds not ready for official release. Make an effort before blaming things on other people.

It's sad because it appears we have the same interest in finding good ganja genetics. But you lose credibility when you incessantly badmouth and complain. I remember a post or a discussion with you and you said that good weed can't be grown in California. That statement made me believe you do not have any clue about good ganja, much less about growing it. I lived there in the late 70s. California was a the mecca of U.S. homegrown. I have smoked weed from a NLD ganja plant I watched being grown there, and it was world class. Dare I say on par with Thai Stick. You come to conclusions way too rapidly with nil experience.

"I am a fan of the old weed. I want to smoke the same quality I smoked in the 20th century." Me too! I go back even earlier. The best quality, potency, and variety was available in the 1970s. By the early 80s, it all started collapsing, even if I didn't recognize it until much later than that.

"ThaiBliss, do you know of any reliable source of old thai weed? The old thai weed had nothing to do with all these newly released government and university sativas CBD. The only hope is growing old seed." What?! I thought I lost all credibility with you. I think you just need to lash out for some reason. It's worth some self-exploration of that.

I think you might be a bit too pessimistic, though I don't blame you. I didn't know about the Thai government approved seeds. That is very disturbing. But I highly doubt the areas that have history with growing Thai Sticks would want to use those seeds. Some might, but not everyone. Some of the growing culture might have been lost over time, but surely there are pockets of people that still grow and keep their own seeds.

Here is other evidence that there is still good weed in Thailand. We just read post from a guy in Thailand describing how he felt after smoking part of a joint. He described it in ways that make me believe he got the good stuff. The potency of good Thai ganja is shocking. His descriptions led me to believe he had a stunning experience. I thought you caught his vibe also. Why didn't that give you hope?

funkyhorse, you are going to hate this one. Which is why I'm taking a perverse pleasure in bringing it up. LOL. I have watched numerous episodes of Strain Hunters. The way they behave frequently disturbs me in ways that I don't want to expound on. However, they do a decent job of exploring into areas that still do traditional grows and genetics. I do find clues in these videos. I've also watched them get high, a lot. When they were at Prempavee's farm, they smoked something from the area. The way they acted indicated to me that they weren't smoking their own normal weed. They were experiencing fits of laughing inebriation that wasn't like other episodes. It was obvious. They were like giggly teenage schoolgirls. That was the only time I've seen them act like that. They had a hard time dealing with it. I had a great connection when I was a youngster. I used to take pleasure in doing that to people. That is, turn them on to powerful weed they weren't used to and watch what happens. I recognize this as a bit sadistic now, but back then it was macho sport. I'm not proud of it. But those Strain Hunter dudes were tripping balls and hanging on for dear life. It's still funny to me. I'll try to be better.
I think we agree that the best ganja has very little CBD. Here is how I have concluded this. I have been nurturing along my own seedstock. I outcrossed when I found something I liked better. Sometimes it helped, and sometimes it went wonky on me. The only time I ever paid for a chemical analysis of bud was when my seedstock started to get stable, and I hadn't found anything better for a while. The results came up with almost no CBD. It also had significant CBG. So much CBG that a group of chemists studying it asked me for some seeds. But it also makes me think that breeding to reduce CBD is not difficult. It appears I did, with the help of Dubi and countless others.

I have had world class genetics that slipped through my fingers, at least ten times. This has happened mostly by losing a clone I kept. I've also recently killed some seeds by using poisoned soil amendments. Sadly, I'm quite sure I have grown plants incorrectly and blamed it on the seeds. As I have learned knew techniques, I realized that I should have tried growning other plants using what I had newly learned.

funkyhorse, you will definately need to take control of the reins of the horse yourself. If you find anything, save seeds. Share those seeds. Refine your growing and breeding skills. We can't really count on others to do the good work. You know dang well, if I find what I'm looking for, I will sound the alarm. I've been searching for decades. I have been searching publicly on this thread for 10 years or so. I have not declared that I have found it yet. You can count on my honest opinion even if you haven't yet understood my reasons.

Let's help each other. Greed was the cause of losing clones before. I didn't want to share them. Stupid! We need each other to preserve and protect and improve the genetics our forefathers / mothers have passed on to us.

I appologize if I started out a bit rough on you. At this point, after spending all this time on this post, I still think you deserve it. Though I did delete a few choice statements. Maybe I deserved being taken down a notch also. However, I'm going to try Prempavee's seeds. I wish I had ordered a wide variety of them. Where else can I try?! I'll get there, one way or another. I hope we all do.

First of all thank you very much for taking your time to answer
I am not intending to trigger your emotions and turn them into a russian mountain. In real life I had problems with this reccomendation thing as I had problems with other cultural things. I spent most of my life in Asia. I couldnt adapt to southamerica
This is why I ask, what I think of the genetics is subjective in this case
It seems the power of synthesis is not something we are very good at. Lets try
I dont have such an excellent command of the english language as you do, I might not use the expressions of your liking because of lack of language skill. What is important is that you understood the question

I am not a fan of Ace Seeds. But I didnt grow any plant in a desertic environment, I cant judge properly. I can only judge how these desertic weed fares at a high humidity envirnment
They breed plants in the desert or indoors, at high humidity what they breed sucks. The weed I got from them from the Zamaldelica breeders pack competes in this hermaphroditic sativa CBD category. I disagree with many statements coming from Ace Seeds, same as I disagree with a lot of things in the canna world.
I think the only way to access again the quality weed is being sincere with ourselves and if the weed sucks, then it sucks and it has nothing to do with anything else
The spanish seedbanks are hash smokers, they dont have sativa culture. No wonder I disagree with them in many things.

It seems if you are running a business in the canna world then hiding the truth and telling myths and legends go hand in hand

I dont understand how to speak truth is badmouthing. Do we need to please anybody? We are not into selling anything, we want top quality sativas, 3-4 hour high, a light entheogen. 3 tokes of this should enhance your senses. Listen more sounds, colours should be brighter, senses are enhanced. Some people in the 20th century called it altered senses. I call it enhanced senses. It opens synesthesias. This is the sativa I crave. Up to 20 years ago I smoked weed like this in Laos. Only in Laos. The brick weed in Thailand until 10 years ago was a couple levels down from that weed
I will check Laos in the european summer when it is low season and weed from last harvest has some cure

I am supercurious about the weed BC wolf sourced. I hope he finds this weed again and buy more. I am customer for any red eyed weed, I want to try

The only movie I saw from Strain Hunters is the thai episode. I didnt know the people I have no clue what disgraces they have committed in the canna world but they seem to have a very poor reputation for landraces
I saw the same but I always thought they are laughing like this in the movie from their top hash they put into their spliffs. No way they are laughing like this from the weed being offered Hang karong

I saved the few seeds I found. I bought one gram hybrid from Prempavee I got more than 12 seeds. Do you want that? The hybrid wasnt particularly good, the hybrid weed in bangkok for the same price she sells is better and seedless sinsemilla
I think I got a few Hang Karong CBD seeds if you want. But I just got back recently. I need to settle down and do a few errands. I am going to see in a couple of hours a new dispensary, they said they will bring thai stick for 0,6¿1u$s gram today

Thank you for answers and sharing another view of the prism. It is helpful. Sharing your point of view is helpful, we dont need to agree on points of view. We can use them to see different things of the same reality
Need to keep searching. Weed was erradicated from Thailand and knowledge seems to have been almost erradicated too. I am hopeful somebody out of the way in the countryside in a far away village have saved some sativa of old but pollen flies kilometers. I am curious what they have in Laos now, I will check during european summer

Pd: I never said anything about the quality of California weed grown in California. I never been there, I never tried it. I dont know
I asked you if paraquat was ever spread in California. You answered the question but the question itself pissed you off. I am not into nationalistic bullshit, I leave nationalism for the football or the rugby world cup.
Our only nation is ganja
It seems when emotions triggered things mix up but this is a subject for another topic.
Have a nice week

No language barrier here. You have no evidence that they put hash in that joint they smoked. It's only an attack on their culture. You do this type of thing very often.

I couldnt adapt to southamerica
What a surprise.

I can't say you don't have the right idea here. I wish you well. Unless you are going to complain about Laos next, I'd love to see you post here about your experience there.

B.T.W., it is not speaking "truth" when one makes blanket statements. The world is not black and white. Whenever you state your truth, and it includes wide ranging statements, it shows a lack of open mindedness. Western seed companies... this, Thai weed that... hash smokers... yada, yada, yada, it shows a lack of knowledge, sophistication, and respect. I catch myself doing that also. It's bad form, and it's not "truth".

Cannabis is an extremely plastic plant. It can be adapted to most environments and preferences. Quit whining, and get to work. We need your discriminating taste.

There are plenty of genetics in the Ace catalog that can achieve exactly what you're looking for. You've only tried one of them, but you're talking as if you've experienced them all!
