The Search for Trip Weed

nice plants TB.

I'm going to buck the consensus here. IMO no such thing as weed that will make you trip. It's just not a psychedelic.

All the peeps I've personally known that said they 'tripped' on weed were the "Hey maan, I'm going going to go home and smoke this killer(same mexi or columbian that everyone else had) weed and listen to some Black Saaaabath, maaaaan!" types.

The chair makes the plants look not so big, but it is an illusion because these are on a steep hill. The plants are between a bit shy of 5 feet to 6 feet tall. Those fabric pots are about 5 to 6 feet in diameter. The plants should explode in growth soon, as the days start to shorten.

One of the things about 'trip' weed is that it is for, well, a Trip.

I don't know if it's over-stating it, but I wonder if some of the primo Cannabis of today (and yesteryear) has an effect, on some people (many people ?) that could be compared to mescaline or Ayahuasca, stimulating & psychedelic.

Other trip drugs, e.g. Ayahuasca, Mescaline, Psylocybin, are usually taken in controlled peaceful settings (or rock concerts

).

Personally, I would like to have a way to analyze my own Cannabis medicine, to see why I like a strain that I like, if it is as simple as a reading of THC/CBN/CBD.

Trip weed is extremely rare these days since the Indica invasion. 40 years ago it was a seriously hot debate by academics whether to classify Cannabis as a psychedelic or a narcotic. Real good trip weed is very similar to a light dose of psilocybin. I have literally experienced an instantaneous phase shift from not high to noticeably high, and then got higher for 40 more minutes. A shift in consciousness that I've only experienced with psilocybin, acid, and extremely high quality and very potent Cannabis. It was like "coming to" from a blackout, or somehow I completely lost a moment or unknown amount of time. I have shared such weed with other people who swear it must have been laced with something. But the best one I ever experienced, I grew, and was definitely not laced. Lots of people believe Thai Sticks were laced with opium. Perhaps some were, but the ones I had were ones whose effects were the quite the opposite of opium. They had effects far closer to a combination of speed and acid. Because I am so old and I started so young, I have smoked weed for 10 years before I ever tried an Indica strain. I have 45 years total experience. I hope you get to experience some trip weed someday.

Thanks for your comments, opinions, and compliments,

ThaiBliss

you will be hard pressed to find anything 'trippy' that you can harvest in under 80 days

its like thoes guys who were saying "all weed has the same effect, thc is thc, you are a fool to think one makes you sleepy and one wakes you up" decades later we know thats wrong

if only 99% of the market was something other than 55day downers maybe more people would get it...

I was one of those guys. I tripped out a few times on good Mexican pot. Partly being inexperienced and partly it being sativa pot. Mostly I did not trip out and it was short lived when it did happen.

Harder to recreate that magic today no doubt. I smoke to relax and do not smoke sativas much at all. GDP which is relaxing is also trippy at times btw.

I th8nk thaibliss explained his search is for euphoria more and maybe not trippy. Where the happy euphoria is definately related to the sativa trippier high.

Tbh I think dj short has done decades of work in this search. And his work is truely in a class of its own. I can say his strains bring that happy euphoria most every time you smoke them. F13 might be what your looking for.... I know the original blueberry is very euphoric for an indica... and I hear the rest carries the same trait..

Hi there,
my small contribution to this astonishing thread, an update to a plant I'm growing outdoors.
It's a superauto MuayThai, she started preflowering around a week ago and grew in one hell of a nice plant.
Here's the progress so far:

At transplant(21 days of life)

around 10 days later

.....and yesterday, 16 days after the last picture(48 days total, 3 weeks after first picture)

Fast growing lady!

This is so far the best looking plant I ever grew(not many, really), there's another superauto from Brasil 11 days behind, looking really good too.

I hope for this one to become somehow trippy, I suspect there's some potential for that, but maybe not in my growing conditions(45N, not enough direct sun, lateral shade). However, if weather will hold, results should be very nice:)

Just a couple of quotes :)

"Mexican has a delicate up-tempo, mariachi-like rhythmic complexity that few "heavier" dopes can duplicate.[10] "

"Verdict? What we have here is the shake from a bag of Colombian Gold tops, which the dealer is selling for less than the tops, splitting up a pound into the extraordinary tops and the very ordinary shake. It was probably grown on or near Santa Marta, probably reached the U.S. via Miami or New Orleans or the gulf side of Texas, and is probably a shade overpriced because the dealer's price is influenced by his knowledge that the tops are terrific.

Alan is anything but typical, of course, and most smokers are satisfied with being able to tell good grass from bad. "When dope is bad," says a New Jersey woman, "you really have to concentrate on getting stoned. With good dope, you don't." Another smoker writes: "Good pot sends me climbing fast. I reach higher and higher plateaus until I peak, and I prefer a good hard punch to a slow, inconspicuous rise." But a New Hampshire man has taken to growing his own supply for this very reason, giving up Colombian, he explains,"because it's so strong that when you're high you are no longer aware of a connection to the place you started from."
A writer in Pittsburgh says that he rates marijuana in two different ways: "how many times will I get stoned per ounce, and how high will I get each time." While there are variations in potency, it does not appear that two joints of weak grass can equal the effects of one stronger joint. "Logic would suggest that you could smoke a lot of ordinary grass and get as high as you would on just two tokes of dynamite weed," he observes. "But it just doesn't work that way."

I definitely like the sensory enhancements along with the euphoria. Bangi Haze had definite auditory enhancement. Thai Sticks had visual enhancements. It may be that the euphoria is brought on by the vivid colors, rich sounds, and especially by seeing the world differently, like it is the first time you have seen it. The trippiness does not allow you to take for granted the beauty all around us. That's what I'm talking about.

Lowfalutin is growing Johnny Blaze (Blueberry x Haze?) and his descriptions seem spot on of what I would like. I have also heard many references to F13 on the HOG thread, so it must be good.

My most profound experiences with trippy weed include Thai Stick, Jamaican Ganja, Sumatran, and a Oaxacan looking Neville's Haze.

@paper thorn…I hope didn’t come off as rude, if so I apologize, it was not my intent.

This is what I was talking about. I’ve seen well seasoned smokers get set back by weed like this.

Greetings,

I completely forgot to mention... both the GNT x NHz x MM and the Oaxacan that are in the flowering cabinet indoors are female. The Oaxacan was very late to show, but now is vigorously catching up and has tighter knots at the meristems compared to Orange Marmalade. Both stems are bent over and the Oaxacan is sparkling dramatically with sessile resin glands. When I open the cabinet, I'm hit in the face with the spicy Oaxacan smell, but when I rub stems the Orange Marmalade is sweet and cloying.

ThaiBliss I would be very interested in a thread on your smoke reports. If there is one can you lead me to it; if there isn't would you have time to make one?

Hi JKD,

Thanks for the interest. I've posted on other people's threads, and I have created another couple of threads, but now I've decided that all strains I'm trying are going to go on this one thread here, since my singular goal is to grow strongly trippy weed, and try to breed it to ripen early enough for outside in my area at 42 degrees north.

Here are my other threads:

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=272210
https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=265981

Just in case you don't know, you can click on my handle or anyone else's, "ThaiBliss", then click on "Statistics", and "Find all Posts by ThaiBliss" or "Find all Threads by ThaiBliss" then you can follow posts or threads on any particular person. Some people put links in their signatures, but for me, "The Search for Trip Weed" is all I'm planning.

Because I like Bangi Haze so much, and I consider it a little bit trippy, here is my smoke report, and a follow up, for that:

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showpost.php?p=5730129&postcount=585

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showpost.php?p=5819544&postcount=606

By the way, Bangi Haze has grown on me since my initial reports. I may have undersold it on my first reactions.

I also think my SAGE cutting is just a bit trippy, but I could not easily find my smoke report of that, and I'm lazy.

Tripping!

^^ It may not be a psychedelic but…I guess you just never smoked any that gave you audios and visuals.

They were wrong on both counts.

Real good trip weed is very similar to a light dose of psilocybin.
I've tried my share of shrooms, never had any pot that was anything like it.

I have literally experienced an instantaneous phase shift from not high to noticeably high, and then got higher for 40 more minutes.
Definitely had that from pot plenty of times, i love that.

A shift in consciousness that I've only experienced with psilocybin, acid, and extremely high quality and very potent Cannabis. It was like "coming to" from a blackout, or somehow I completely lost a moment or unknown amount of time. I have shared such weed with other people who swear it must have been laced with something.
Agree with that whole statement, but i always thought the ones who thought that it must be 'laced' with something, idiots.

But the best one I ever experienced, I grew, and was definitely not laced. Lots of people believe Thai Sticks were laced with opium. Perhaps some were, but the ones I had were ones whose effects were the quite the opposite of opium. They had effects far closer to a combination of speed and acid.
I thought the effects of Thai Stick were that of good, really good weed.
Did speed, did acid, did shrooms, not like Thai Stick to me.

Because I am so old and I started so young, I have smoked weed for 10 years before I ever tried an Indica strain. I have 45 years total experience.
Yeah, only 41 years of smoking here old man. lol. Yep, 79 when i saw my first afghani. Smoked Durban Poison in 73, Oaxacan, Michoacan, Guerro Gold, Colombian, golds and red, and panama red, Thai Stick, man those were the days for good sativas.

I hope you get to experience some trip weed someday.
Already smoked em, just didn't think of any of the effects as 'tripping'.

BTW, I don't want to trip, i just like pot. Sorry, for being a bit of an ass, I knew I'd get jumped a bit posting what I posted in a thread like this, and I really don't want to make peeps mad.

Ok, once back in 77 I was at a party at an old girlfriend's house in Flagstaff, AZ. Don't remember if it was mexican or colombian, but i took a huge rip off of this 4' bong, cleared the whole tube haha; Then, bam, I was sitting in my car driving down Interstate 10. Started hearing my name really quiet, slowly building till I realized it was my girl calling to me as a swayed trying not to fall and trying not to lean too hard on the bong. Realized I was in the living room at a party, not in my car. One hell of a hit. trippy as it ever got for me.

Still don't think of that as tripping, don't know what to call that lol.

I remember tripping as color changes, pinks, purples, weird shadow/light tricks, too much yellow, bendy things, endless paisley swirling all over the ceiling etc. Yeah those were the days eh? haha.

Thai, betterhaff, and the rest in this thread, keep on truckin, brothers.

paper thorn- that, my friend, is tripping! :) I think maybe your definition is just a bit narrower than some other folks.

The consensus (at least from this Wikipedia article) is "Psychedelic states are an array of experiences including changes of perception such as hallucinations, synesthesia, altered states of awareness or focused consciousness, variation in thought patterns, trance or hypnotic states, mystical states, and other mind alterations." pretty broad spectrum, imo

ThaiBliss and fellow trip weed searchers-

I think a great way to start identifying these traits we're after, is to utilize the analysis technologies that have become more and more accessible. Companies like ******** are able to use flower or leaf matter samples and provide accurate ratios of active compounds.

Once a fantastic specimen has been isolated, they should be tested with both Gas Chromatography and High Pressure Liquid Chromatography.

To have a gas chromatography graph that can be overlaid from one strain to the next will allow for better selection. If you find a crazy, trippy "keeper" of a plant, spend a few bucks to get the analysis done. It'll help the whole community isolate what exactly it is we're after.
